cherish405 -> Is there a "Bad" safe mode? (7/1/2008 12:01:49 PM)

A friend told me that my computer isn't in "safe" SAFE MODE. Does that mean there is a bad safe mode?

I can finally get the screen to give me a choice of normal mode, safe mode etc, but when I try to get it to go to normal mode, it just gives me a shocking screen, making seeing graphics impossible. Don't know if it's lost one of its drivers or what the problem is. I'm not technologically minded, so I'm just asking friends to help.

Safe Mode(Windows)is, by definition, is telling you there's something awry with your boot sequence and can(or only will)load minimal drivers. If the boot can't even load the video driver(s) the ROM always loads(tries)the 'text' screen anyway and probably that's the image you have and can read. Since you have a text screen, probably the GUI(graphic user interface)is corrupt either video driver, video chip, card or a virus.

Now there's an answer a non-technical person can understand. After they go to school for four years! [8|]

I don't understand the first thing about computers. A friend said something about there possibly being a driver missing, but that's as clear as mud. He gave me some instructions, but I don't have a clue what I'm looking for once I do what he told me.

He said something about safe mode being in 4 corners? Whatever that means! [8|]

I would just take it in to a trusted support person. No offense to your friend advice is pretty cheap but fixing the 'reality' is the goal. If it's(the computer)can't or won't even boot in 'Safe' mode it's time to seek 'professional help'. Many factors describe those symptoms from operating system crash corruption, any(many or cascading effect)chip failure, virus/spyware to outdated drivers.

4 corners? Greek to me, too!

Safe mode in four corners, he is referring to the words "Safe Mode" as text displaying in the four corners of your monitor. Top right, top left, bottom left, bottom right. Your screen should also look outta wack in safe mode.

Depending on your version of Microsoft Windows, i.e. Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, XP, or Vista, there are many different ways to fix problems and computer issues. Your best bet is to take it to a service location or ask your church if they have a Christian business list.

btw why do you want to be in "safe safe mode"... Safe mode is a diagnostic mode, or a failure mode, that you resort to using when your computer is on the fritz. Safe mode is not a mode designed to use to protect you on the computer, but to fix a problem. :)

Safe Mode text will apear in four corners of the desktop..and the screen will look much different than it will in normal mode.

Sure does look different from normal. The colours are all strange. Can't see graphics properly. The screen keeps flickering, especially where ads and graphics are. Even some text is hard to read.

Thats because its not designed to load all the graphics. If you can't get it out of safe mode, then you may have to have someone either try to fix the issue that is causing it or just reload the os. If you have any documents you need to save you should be able to save them.

At this stage, I don't have the money to fix or replace the computer. I'm just going to have to put up with it for now. [:(]

The cheapest way to do it at this point is to install another hard drive and reinstall the OS. Make sure you have all the cd's with the drivers or if the computer came with an install disk use that. You can always retrieve the files from the old drive later.

Backup all your important things!!!
if you cant exit safe mode it means there is a serious system error or other problem, have you tried CHKDISK?
start>run>chkdisk

Thanks for that.
