I just saw in the Singing News that the Dixie Melody Boys will be in concert near my hometown on July 12th at Friendly Chapel church!! I have never seen them live and CANNOT wait to go hear them!

Maybe I can see some of you there too!! I understand there will two really good local groups there as well and best of all it is FREE!!! LOL!

The contact number for the church is 919-894-5978

Have any of ya'll seen them live before?

GVfan -> RE: DIXIE MELODY BOYS CONCERT, BENSON NC (7/1/2008 2:54:04 PM)

I've only seen them live at NQC. I know you will really enjoy them!

DeeAnnBailey -> RE: DIXIE MELODY BOYS CONCERT, BENSON NC (7/1/2008 4:11:56 PM)

I've seen them many times and plan to see them on Saturday night at Inspiration park.

I've seen them by themselves live a few years ago and I thought their set was too laid back, to be perfectly honest.

That said, I just saw them at NQC last year and their set was one of the greatest highlights of the closing evening! They definitely were on it at NQC, and I have a feeling they may sing more like that than what I originally concluded. [:)]

Ed O'neal gets better and better every year.

Ain't that right Miss D.

Ed O'Neal said in his most recent SN column that he sings slower songs since that wears him out less at his age.[8D]

I would imagine if I were his age, i would want to be more laid back

PaulPate -> RE: DIXIE MELODY BOYS CONCERT, BENSON NC (7/2/2008 10:51:38 AM)

I've seen "The Dixie Melody Boys" many times in the past, but it has been over a year since I last saw them. "Laid back" is not a term I would apply to the Dixie Melody Boys I have seen. In my opinion Ed O'neal is one of the best bass singers ever in SG music. He is not showy and may not have the lowest voice, but it is very smooth, stready, and in tune. ED is also known for his ability to find and introduce new singers to SG.

rkr27504 -> RE: DIXIE MELODY BOYS CONCERT, BENSON NC (7/2/2008 10:51:54 AM)

Wonder Ed has been singing?

Amerigrandpa -> RE: DIXIE MELODY BOYS CONCERT, BENSON NC (7/2/2008 11:21:17 AM)

Yes.

Billboy -> RE: DIXIE MELODY BOYS CONCERT, BENSON NC (7/5/2008 10:08:11 PM)

I saw them a couple of times this past year, with different lineups, but that same smooth harmony. I am sure you will enjoy them.

DeeAnnBailey -> RE: DIXIE MELODY BOYS CONCERT, BENSON NC (7/6/2008 12:35:28 AM)

Saw them tonight - they did an awesome job!!!

rkr27504 -> RE: DIXIE MELODY BOYS CONCERT, BENSON NC (7/7/2008 1:27:03 PM)

only four more days!!! In the words of JD..."I can't wait!!"

DeeAnnBailey -> RE: DIXIE MELODY BOYS CONCERT, BENSON NC (7/7/2008 10:23:12 PM)

Tell Stephen the crazy folks from SC said hello!!!

rkr27504 -> RE: DIXIE MELODY BOYS CONCERT, BENSON NC (7/8/2008 7:57:03 AM)

LOL!!! i will do that!

quaidnewcome -> RE: DIXIE MELODY BOYS CONCERT, BENSON NC (7/8/2008 1:23:40 PM)

I've only seen the Dan Keeton and Andrew King lineup live. But despite changes, Ed consistently puts great quartet lineups together. You'll not be disappionted.

They do not refer to singing with DMB as attending Ed O'Neal University for nothing.[:D]

They joked about that a lot this past weekend!

rkr27504 -> RE: DIXIE MELODY BOYS CONCERT, BENSON NC (7/9/2008 8:37:03 AM)

I have seen the t-shirts that say EOU university! LOL!

DeeAnnBailey -> RE: DIXIE MELODY BOYS CONCERT, BENSON NC (7/9/2008 9:05:27 AM)

Melton Campbell with the Inspirations joked he needed to travel with Ed a few weeks when he was off to be able to get one of those! [:D]

robertyork -> RE: DIXIE MELODY BOYS CONCERT, BENSON NC (7/10/2008 1:40:27 PM)

Glad to see the Dixie Melody Boys scheduled to be at the World Premier in Pigeon Forge August 26 at both the afternoon session and the evening session. If you're in the area would be a great place to be that day. The Browns are also there for both sessions.

RogerBennett_Fan -> RE: DIXIE MELODY BOYS CONCERT, BENSON NC (7/12/2008 12:27:24 PM)

I saw the Dixie Melody Boys live at Silver Dollar City's Southern Gospel Picnic and at NQC. I really enjoyed them - they have a great unique style!

Have a great time at the concert tonight rkr27504! Be sure to tell us how it went!

JDFan -> RE: DIXIE MELODY BOYS CONCERT, BENSON NC (7/12/2008 1:23:36 PM)

You need to see em again RBFan. Ed's the only member left of the group that sang at NQC! I don't know how he handles so many changes so aptly.

The group now is Ed, Chris Cooper, Joseph Kitson, and Jonathan Price....they're doing a great job.

Your kidding, right?! I know I'll see them at NQC this year, but I hope I get to see them before that! I have one of their CD's and love listening to it. [:D] Thanks JDFan for the info!
