Tell people who you like, start a poll in singles and have people vote for who you have a crush on. Then, PM the person with the most votes and confirm that everyone is right.

Of course that didn't work for me but it could work. lol

The person who was supposed to be my crush was never heard from again.

Me too. I'd hate to think that me crushing on someone was such a horror that they ran screaming into the distance. It's not like I was a snake or anything

I think PMing the person directly is easier. I don't think there has to be a go between, unless it makes the person more comfortable. Making the contact is easy everything else.....not so much. This forums thing is a whole new world for me.

agreed! you can simply PM about a thread they started or maybe a post they made. i think it's possible that coming off really strong in a PM could be maybe scare someone off so keep it cw-related at first, but you never know. of course receiving a PM doesn't mean someone is interested but i'd just go from there and it's so easy

Yeah. I've gotten "wow, I'm really interested in you" PMs as well as "I felt led to write to you" PMs. It's not cool. At all. You might really have read my last 100 posts and been totally blown away by my incredible wit and wisdom ( ) but it doesn't do to blurt that out when I don't know you from Adam. It just skeers me.

Keep it on a friendly, mutual interest/great post! level or you're gonna come off as creepy.

I think online is so anonymous I don't think a PM would hurt, although I don't think the liason idea is so bad, either.

Michelle is right...lots of peeps have hooked up here over the years!

For clarification Prairiehiker, are you saying that you like to see that person responding to your posts to put himself on your radar rather thancontacting you directly?

Um, unless he lives within 50 miles of me, I really don't see any point of him showing any interests in me. So, if he just wants to compliment me, or he wants some advice, I wouldn't mind a PM. I get those occasionally anyway and respond to all of them. Beyond that, I don't allow myself to get interested in anyone online, or allow anyone to get interested in me because it'll just lead to heartache.

I agree with Prairiehiker on this one.....(as I do most of her posts).....I'm kinda skeptical about meeting someone online, BUT, as she said, I wouldn't even consider hooking up with someone more than 40 or 50 miles away from me, maybe even less than that, actually. I mean, we could just be "online buds" and that would be about it.

I agree with you, CoeurdeLeon. To hear absolutely nothing from someone and then get such a "too-close-for-comfort" PM suddenly out of nowhere would probably come across as funky.

iwillfearnoevil had the right idea, too.

FYI - I'm sure those of you who refer to people "hooking up" on here are aware that this term has a dual meaning (lol). We're talking about the good kind of "hook up" as in dating or marriage I presume.

Choir DJ....thanks for pointing that out, though I do have to say that I find atrocious that simple terms like that somehow take on perverted meanings.

I certainly wouldn't mind hearing from somebody saying hello in a PM. I've been online for well over a decade though, so I'm pretty comfortable with the environment.

Well, yeah. Cause you can be as weird and creepy as you want and it's cool.

This is true. And despite the fact this is a Christian website, the whole I felt led to contact you can come across as manipulative.

I voted for "do nothing."

I'm not really interested in hooking up with someone via the internet.

And echoing what Lioness said, I get some pretty weird PMs also. Believe me; it's neither flattering nor impressive. It is, however, creepy.
During such instances, I always PM the guy back and tell him that if he'd like to get to know me better, he's always welcomed to participate in my chat thread. Ironically (and thankfully), the guys that send me weird PMs never do take me up on this fabulous offer.

I really didn't do much posting on any message boards before coming to CW and I thought the idea of meeting someone online was a little weird at first. I figured there are just too many weirdos and you could never really get to know someone over the Internet and to a large degree that's true. The flip side is that people tend to be less inhibited and more honest about themselves on message borads like this one because you have some control over how anonymous they'll remain. So...you can get a pretty good idea of what makes a person tick by reading his/her posts.

Nowadays, I'm a little more open-minded about the idea of meeting someone online because God sometimes works in mysterious ways. You just never know how He may plan to introduce you to that special person someday . Afterall, Naaman almost missed out on his opportunity to be healed of his leprosy because it didn't happened the way he had anticipated. The Pharisees (and many others) missed the Messiah because they had their own preconceived notions of how the Messiah was supposed to come.

I would agree with the previous posters that said they wouldn't consider starting a relationship with someone who didn't live in the same geographical area because at some point the online relationship has to go offline. Long distance relationships? Not mu cup of tea.
