I'm sure the thought of meeting someone online has crossed all of our minds at some point and we all probably have a wide range of opinions about it based on our personal experiences. Perhaps the prospects in your particular ministry are slim pickings and you want to expand your horizons in search for that soulmate or Perhaps the idea of meeting someone online creeps you out a bit. Maybe you've had some very unpleasant experiences on one (or more) of the dating websites and you are so done about right now. Maybe, you've never really considered it at all. Feel free to elaborate on your response(s).

So, here's the Poll Item...

If someone in this forum were interested in getting to know me better, I would want him/her to...

I agree!! Since there are so many people on this forum and many people know each other, there is a vast network. Our friends are looking out for our best interests and make great "gate-keepers". [:D]

Not sure I understand your response...How would you know that this person even existed if they never made contact with you? Are you talking about having a mutual acquaintance involved after someone expresses an interest?

ChoirDJ, it's kind of junior high-esque. Say you like user "SoandSo"". You have another friend/acquaintance on the forums, "Bulabaloo", and you PM Bulabaloo and say, "Hey, isn't SoandSo dreamy?" or "Hey, Bulabaloo, I might be interested in Soandso....what do ya think?"

Then Bulabaloo (who might know SoandSo) might prod Soandso with ideas, or at least give you ideas on how to proceed.

If all else fails, the "Do you like me? Check yes or no" box always works.

Which one? The checkbox approach? [:D]

mutinywxgirl -> RE: Secret Admirer... (7/1/2008 4:29:26 PM)

All of the above. [8D]

Grace-N-Mercy -> RE: Secret Admirer... (7/1/2008 4:33:01 PM)

For those who haven't quite established a network of friends, I highly encourage them to jump into the chat thread and get involved in other threads to become known. Interact with several people, including the one you're interested in getting to know better. Eventually you'll get to a point where you want to interact with the person by PM, even if just to say "great post". You'll correspond back and forth for a little while establishing a friendship. Then you just see where it goes after that.

RosieCotton -> RE: Secret Admirer... (7/1/2008 4:35:21 PM)

Grace.....you know this from experience??? [8D]

I've been on here a LONG time and have seen a LOT of people come together. There has been a LOT of flirting on here over the years... don't think it goes beyond my observation!! [:D] Also, those people who have hooked up have posted their advice on here.

RosieCotton -> RE: Secret Admirer... (7/1/2008 4:44:23 PM)

hmmmm...............interesting!

I think PMing the person directly is easier. I don't think there has to be a go between, unless it makes the person more comfortable. Making the contact is easy everything else.....not so much. This forums thing is a whole new world for me.[&:]

Tinkerbell_ -> RE: Secret Admirer... (7/1/2008 7:14:26 PM)

I'm all for PMs as well. That way it keeps things as private as the two people involved would like. If they wish to involve others for accountability or advice that's one thing. But the whole passing notes in study hall is kind of...not my thing...lol. [:)]

Prairiehiker -> RE: Secret Admirer... (7/1/2008 7:26:52 PM)

I would just be sensitive to the person's responses to my posts. If he's not even posting in my thread, perhaps, he's not interested. People that are interested would like to hang around and let their names be known and let the person of interest notice them. That's how I would do it.

ChoirDJ -> RE: Secret Admirer... (7/1/2008 8:46:33 PM)

For clarification Prairiehiker, are you saying that you like to see that person responding to your posts to put himself on your radar rather than contacting you directly?

I just realized I didn't even take the poll myself. For the record, I'm more of the direct person so I would have to go with asking the person to PM me on why she's interested and to include a little blurp about herself. Depending on how that goes, I would probably send a picture or request a picture or send one.

cammo2006 -> RE: Secret Admirer... (7/1/2008 8:53:11 PM)

Personally this is something I don't really worry about (on the sheer unlikelihood of it -- NB: that doesn't mean I'd think it impossible, just unlikely).

My reaction though would be to try and get to know the person better.

WaitingforBoaz -> RE: Secret Admirer... (7/1/2008 8:57:01 PM)

Other:
PM the person and start a conversation and see where it goes from there. I don't think it is necessary to come right out and say I am interested and this is why, in the beginning. All I would be doing is making a friend at this point it may come to absolutely nothing, but maybe not.[:D]

Um, unless he lives within 50 miles of me, I really don't see any point of him showing any interests in me. So, if he just wants to compliment me, or he wants some advice, I wouldn't mind a PM. I get those occasionally anyway and respond to all of them. Beyond that, I don't allow myself to get interested in anyone online, or allow anyone to get interested in me because it'll just lead to heartache.

...PM me and tell me why he/she is interested in me.

i believe in the straight-up approach. i got no problem with someone just coming out and saying "i really liked your thots on......." or "you always make me laff....." or whatever. and i'd have no problem saying same to someone else.

i think the next logical step would be to IM or email....get to know one another outside the forum...and just see where it goes from there.

but as prairiehiker said....if they don't live close, it's pretty unlikely anything will come of it. at least my experience has been that long-distance relationships are difficult to maintain.

Mrs.Above_All -> RE: Secret Admirer... (7/1/2008 11:27:32 PM)

Tell people who you like, start a poll in singles and have people vote for who you have a crush on. Then, PM the person with the most votes and confirm that everyone is right. [:D]

Of course that didn't work for me but it could work. lol

RosieCotton -> RE: Secret Admirer... (7/1/2008 11:28:44 PM)

we used to do that a loooooooooooooong time ago.........didnt it work for some people???

I wouldn't be surprised if it did. For me, someone made a "Who is Above_All's crush" thread but I didn't tell everyone. So the votes were sort of even. But it did get my then crush wondering though. [:D] I was so ornery then. lol

I resemble resent that. I am nowhere NEAR as bored lately like before.
