Not sure if this has been discussed already if so, Moderators feel free to close this out and post a link on the discussion.

Sabbath, which point of view should we observed? The Adventist and Jewish point of view is observing the Sabbath from After sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday. The church's/denominations that derived from the Catholic observe the Sabbath on Sunday. Which is the correct point a view? I like to reference the 10 commandments where it say that we should always remember the sabbath. Does this particular commandment only apply to those of the Hebrew faith or does it really matter? Do they have it right and we have it wrong or, once again, does it really matter?

Ken, you should probably post this to the Law thread.

According to Hebrews, JESUS is our sabbath.

That's the obvious answer of course, but I'm quite sure Jesus observed the Sabbath? Should we not do as He did or come close? I know as Christians we are bounded by the New covenant, but is this a law we should ignore and abide by something created by man(i.e. changing the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday)

Hello ken1906_4,
I am unsure that it could be said that the church changed the sabbath-they just recognize it differently than those who hold to an obsevance based on a day of the week.
I'm not sure when the church started coming together on Sunday, but one of the earliest church fathers,Justin Martyr,in his first Apology (ch67) explains about the coming together of the church to worship.
Apostolic Fathers

The reasons he gives for Sunday worship are very interesting.
Doing a word search on the word sabbath in the Ante-nicene fathers book can also give some idea of what the early church understood.
Yours in Christ,
T.J.

Can you point to any NT instruction for Christians to observe the 7th Day Sabbath? There is actually no instruction to observe one day above another. It is optional.

The fact that Jesus kept the Sabbath should be noted that this was done at a time when the First Covenant was still in effect. If imitation is the key, then maybe we should continue to offer sacrifices. Animal sacrifices were kept during Jesus' lifetime.

TrustingGod -> RE: Which POV about the Sabbath is the correct one? (7/1/2008 9:00:40 PM)

We are to give God our first fruits and Sunday is the first day of the week. Therefore, observing the Sabbath on Sunday is giving God our first day of the week. This is how I look at it [:D]

HERE is the Sabbath thread.

Please discuss this in that thread.

Thanks!
