okrox -> Rhetorical, Yet, Strangely Revealing Question #1 (7/1/2008 6:56:20 PM)

Which would insult you more? To be called lazy, ignorant, ugly or mean? Rank them in order from worst to least insulting.

(Actually, this tells a lot about a person. There are no correct answers, but still, I'll answer later so as not to pre-condition anyone.)

(In keeping with the single's forum guidelines...This relates because I once saw it on a single's list of getting-to-know-you-questions. I thought it was an interesting look at what a person values.)

Prairiehiker -> RE: Rhetorical, Yet, Strangely Revealing Question #1 (7/1/2008 7:11:20 PM)

I guess it would all depend on who's calling me lazy, ignorant, ugly or mean. I mean, I think I'm all or at least one of those to some people, and probably none of those to people that really know me well.

If it's a casual acquaintance that called me lazy, ugly, mean, "I'll probably just say, well, oh yeah, you're just a big poophead, LOL" I really don't like being called ignorant but I'm sure I can be at times.

So, if it came from the people that matters enough to me to be offended by the label, I would be most offended by the label ignorant first, then ugly, then mean, then lazy.

I'm not easily insulted as I normally don't weigh other people's opinions very highly. If they called me any of those it would be obvious that they really didn't know me and thus had no meaningful (to me) opinion. Kind of "consider the sourceish"

From someone I respected I would rate them (worst to best) ignorant, lazy, ugly, mean. However (looking around to be sure OH is still sleeping) I know that I am smart and well educated, a hard worker, somewhat acceptable looking and a pretty nice guy. So they must be having a bad day or something.

The Girl however does call me "mean" sometimes. I normally respond "And I'm good at it to!!"

1) mean (Unless it's by my kids[:D])
2) ignorant
3) lazy
4) ugly

Will we get a personality analysis based on these responses?

betterisoneday -> RE: Rhetorical, Yet, Strangely Revealing Question #1 (7/1/2008 9:06:57 PM)

Tie between ignorant and lazy (those are what come to my head as soon as I realize a mistake, just not sure which is first)
Next mean.
Finally ugly. (I've heard this plenty of times, but now my sons tell me how pretty I look every day [:D])

Oh, yes, yes, of course...you get a VERY reliable personality profile. Just place the palm of your hand on your computer screen. It will read your palm and calculate the results of your answers to this question. You should recieve it in the mail in 4-6 weeks.

What it DOES tell you about someone, though, is what they value, and, if you can get them to explain a little, why.

For instance, mine would be:

1.Mean
2.Ignorant
3.Ugly
4. Lazy

That shows that I would expect someone close to me to take a little extra care to be tactful and thoughtful and to be able to converse reasonably with me. I would want some attention paid to appearance, but it's not a priority. I can enjoy a good evening on the sofa with a book without feeling too guilty. See? It's sort of a round-about way of asking "What's on your list?" but it's a little more accurate, because it gets a little more of an honest gut reaction...because (pout) it's asking about ME!

This would be my list, too. Just out of curiosity, do you mean ignorant as in "unknowledgeable" or "rude"? Either way, it holds the same position on my list.

I think another way of looking at what's revealed in these lists is where our insecurities lie. For example, I know I'm not ugly or stupid/rude, so someone could say those things and it wouldn't make one bit of difference to me. But after spending 21 yrs being told I'm mean and lazy, even though I know it's not true, those insults could catch me off-guard and illicit a strong reaction. Ya know?

sunshinesoprano -> RE: Rhetorical, Yet, Strangely Revealing Question #1 (7/2/2008 9:26:55 AM)

I think my greatest insult would be laziness, mostly because I abhor laziness. [sm=fireanger.gif]

Second worst would be mean. I would hate for anyone to think I was mean!!![sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif]

Third, ignorant. Most people think others are ignorant because they don't agree with you. That's their problem.

Last, ugly. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

jlp1 -> RE: Rhetorical, Yet, Strangely Revealing Question #1 (7/2/2008 4:16:17 PM)

lazy
mean
ignorant
ugly
