#2 I'm curious why you think when you offend people it's justifiable, righteous anger

I apologize for offending you. I certainly did not mean to and I ask your forgiveness. Offending others is the very last thing on earth I want to do, believe me.

I'm not offended - just not getting your responses in this thread. That's not meant to be offensive - just honest & open.

I wonder how many people practice Matthew 18:15-20?

I think..we...are so paranoid about offending people we let them fester in their sins.

If I need correction...

PLEASE...

correct me. If I am offended then..I am sinning.

Ya know, one reason why christians do not correct other christians is because they don't want to offend people. Gee, offend away!! Step on some toes!! Jesus sure did and not only to the pharesees. He got after the disciples on more than one occaision and I bet...there are some people, somce christians...who would be offended if Jesus came down and had a one on one with them.

What happened on that road to Damascus?

What did Jesus say to Peter? "Satan get behind me" ain't exaclty mushy talk.

Its my opinion, christians need to be offended much more often...maybe we wouldn;t be so lukewarm then.

The OT Prophets...now there were some offfensive people!!

What did John say to Herod? Was Herod offended?

Paul was very blunt to the church at Corinth.

I would rather have to apologise for going overboard than not to care enough to offend people...who need offending.

Pet peeve time....I have been here 8 years and only once did I report anyone..and that was a chatter using profanity in chat. If you have a beef with someone...go....to...them. I've been called everything here, from heretic to athiest to...yes even...liberal.

My response? First I will correct your poor assumption. Secondly, I will not get offended. As long as you are only berating me, its no biggie.

Attack another or attack Jesus..well, I will have to comment on that. Heck I have even come to the aid of people...I disagree with.

I would rather have someone tell me the truth. Put it in any fashion you wish to put it. I am NOT perfect and I don't think anyone else is either so...I take all such comments as, hopefully they were meant. To correct me or to teach me, in christian love.

If ya can't do that...if you can't do it in love no matter how direct in fashion...then don't say anything at all.

Believe it or not...I do have forum duct tape....I just don't use it often....

and by the way...a little humor once in a while helps.

The thing is, if we allow it, forums like this can be a real booster in learning how to handle people, how to take criticism, how to understand bitterness in someone, how to recognize and deal with someone who is hurting, etc.

This is very true. IRL it can be easy to just react - after all when someone catches you off guard, you can't usually sit back and think for 5 minutes in silence while the person is waiting for you to reply. Here, you have time to think and ponder stuff before you post. There are many posts I write that I never actually post or I change so many times before I post them that they don't even remotely resemble my original response.

It's also helpful to be able to look at how posters respond in other situations to see if their reaction is just their normal self or if maybe there is "more" going on.

It's like with friends. There are some folks who, if they fly off the handle, I just walk away. I know they are just that way and it has nothing to do with me so I'm not going to be a punching bag. There are other folks I know who, if they flew off the handle, I'd have my arms wrapped around them in a second praying with them and asking them what was going on.

I have reported folks over the years, but it's almost always after having give them fair warning in the thread in question. The only time it isn't is when it is so outrageous that it needs to be addressed immediately. One was a poster in a prayer thread of all places who posted something I knew would be extremely hurtful to the person asking for prayer. The mod taking care of it actually thanked me - that's how bad it was.

I have pretty thick skin. Although I am also the same way when it comes to another poster being attacked. Actually, I'm like that in real life too. Mess with me and you might get snarled at. Mess with someone else: watch out!

That's right! That's how we met around here, huh? I can't even remember what that thread was about... It's really sad when you've been in enough awful threads to not remember which is which...

Are you kidding. I don't remember the last thread I posted in tonight. I hope it's not awful.

That is my favorite part of the forums. I don't talk much IRL because I don't think fast on my feet. I'm not stupid, I'm just one of those people who likes to have everything sorted out and thought out mentally before responding, and that's nearly impossible in a conversation except online. And then the conversation skills learned here can be taken and used offline, as well.

Even people who are quick to take offense are easier to deal with online, because you don't have to deal with them immediately. You can take your time and figure out what you want/need to do about the situation, and it doesn't require the same amount of emotional energy that dealing with someone face to face does.

(And I second Coeur, phosadaud, you do rock! )

Thanks! Back at ya Appaise!

I have no problem responding quickly IRL. My problem is that I HATE when I come up with some brilliant response....

....later that night....

That's always me! I'd be the life of the party if I could come up with the things I think of later in the day/night right when I needed them instead of later in the day/night.
