Hehehe ----> PDITTKU. [;)]

Kinda makes the arteries harden just imagining those recipes, but I like some of the things she makes, they seem pretty tasty. That said, I can't get past the accent and the cackling laughter of hers. Makes her programs hard to watch. Now, I'm Texas - born and bred, so I'm not trying to make fun of southern drawls, but hers sounds so put on. I don't doubt she has one, but is simply exaggerating it.

Covaan_Meshuga -> RE: Paula Deen (7/2/2008 1:39:23 AM)

Others have also told me she seems put-on. I have not watched her shows, except one time when I was waiting in a line at my bank. She made some kind of cake, I saw about 5 minutes of it, and went home and tried it. It was good, but I didn't see what all she put in it or how she baked it. She probably put marshmallows, bacon, and a pound of butter in it. Oops! I missed that part! [:D]

I didn't know her then, so I had no clue what she was about. Others have told me about her, though, so I looked up this "sandwich." I thought they were pulling my leg! But there it is! There is no way anyone can eat like that and live. Eeeeeewww!

Georgia-Peach -> RE: Paula Deen (7/2/2008 8:29:31 AM)

I love Paula Deen! My hubby even took me to see her live show (it's not the one on t.v. she was doing touring doing live shows) and she was even better in person. Granted her cooking is not always the healthiest and I don't think hamburger between donuts even sounds remotely good, but I do enjoy her southern charm. I have tried several of her recipes and they are great, not all of her stuff has a stick of butter in it believe it or not.

Miss Giggles -> RE: Paula Deen (7/2/2008 8:30:31 AM)

Some of the stuff looks good like the fried chicken and other southern type dishes (I am not from the south) but the deep fried macaroni and cheese and deep fried butter balls just crack me up.

The food network is going overboard on overexposing some of their celebrities though. I can watch her her regular cooking type show but the Paula's Party show gets on my nerves.

stellaluna -> RE: Paula Deen (7/2/2008 9:31:31 AM)

I ate at her restaurant in Savannah a few months ago. Everything tasted like butter. [:'(]

Miss Giggles -> RE: Paula Deen (7/2/2008 9:41:35 AM)

I think Rachel Ray is more annoying than her ! Rachel stuck some bread in a saucepan and called it "gnocchi". Uh no. Gnocchi is potato dumplings. I'm sure Giada woulda smacked her if she had been standing next to her.

I have to agree. Even more annoying are her sons, Jamie Bob and Bobby Bob. I feel so sorry for her husband, Santa Claus The Cap'n, who I think will die first from her ridiculous use of fat in her recipes.

I used to like her, but now she plays off the fact that every thing she makes is unhealthy, and even though she laughs her head off about it, it's just not funny anymore.

Rachel Ray used to be my #1 annoying person on the foodie channel, but she now rides a close second.

I beg to differ...Giada is one that annoys me as well as Robin Miller whose meals never sound or look good.

daisies4u -> RE: Paula Deen (7/2/2008 10:38:37 AM)

Her double chocolate gooey cake is the best ever.

I think the whole butter thing is just PR. They are using that to play up her show. I really liked her until I read her auto-biography. Now I find it a little hard to watch her shows. She does have some good recipes though. My family requests The Lady's Mac and Cheese every holiday.

stellaluna -> RE: Paula Deen (7/2/2008 10:42:33 AM)

Besides everything tasting like butter, the french fries are fried potatoes that are then battered and deep fried again. [:'(] I just remembered that. Yuck.

Her restaurant also serves deep-fried butter balls, but you have to get the buffet to taste them and we didn't get the buffet.

Miss Giggles -> RE: Paula Deen (7/2/2008 10:46:06 AM)

Those french fries would probably taste pretty good, unfortunately. [:D]

Well at least her husbands home, not like Ina's.

Covaan_Meshuga -> RE: Paula Deen (7/2/2008 10:53:37 AM)

Wow! I am totally out of my league here! I have no idea who most of you are talking about. Chefs, I am sure, but they even tell about their personal lives? Wow!

Miss Giggles -> RE: Paula Deen (7/2/2008 11:21:56 AM)

Ina runs her show out her mansion in the hamptons (they live there) but her husband is always traveling. So there always jokes on the food boards about her husband never being home. That's what I meant before anyone misinterprets.

fluffmonkey -> RE: Paula Deen (7/2/2008 12:02:47 PM)

Maybe not all are good, but the ones my soon to be MIL cooks are really good ^_-
but maybe its because im southern girl lol

29redballoons -> RE: Paula Deen (7/2/2008 12:28:18 PM)

I persoanlly love her, and all of her recipes that I have tried are great. I love, love, love her pumpkin gooey cake!!!!!

miasma -> RE: Paula Deen (7/2/2008 1:54:49 PM)

From several people (some with discerning palates, some not), I've heard her restaurant is terrible.

One of those people went to a taping of her show, and said she was totally drunk in about 20 minutes. Which, I thought, totally explains how she behaves on the episodes I've seen.

Nobody, and I mean nobody, will over bump Emeril out of #1 Annoyance.

Georgia-Peach -> RE: Paula Deen (7/2/2008 1:57:52 PM)

The Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cake is definitely worth making!

I would consider paying for cable again just to see this.

As for Paula Deen, why not just lick through a tub of lard? It would be easier to prepare and you would get the same result.

Miss Giggles -> RE: Paula Deen (7/2/2008 2:55:29 PM)

Rachel did call it bread gnocchi but still I am sure an italian food purist would be cringing. btw gnocchi is my favorite italian dish.

Heres the recipe

jodavi -> RE: Paula Deen (7/2/2008 6:29:56 PM)

I read her autobiography a few months ago and you can almost hear her speak while reading the pages. She's very funny but she did go on some depression in her early years. She's very open and candid about her life and even talked about her affair with a married man and her struggle with her stepdaughter. One thing I did not know is that she's a smoker.
She guested on Martha's show months ago and it was a total opposite of personalities. Paula's way of cooking (according to her book) is how she would cook in her kitchen and that includes licking her fingers. So you can imagine Martha and Paula's ways. Paula was telling Martha on how her house is pretty much an open door for her employees and Matha went [sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif]
I'd like to go to her restaurant someday.

StephK -> RE: Paula Deen (7/2/2008 6:43:46 PM)

She drives me nuts. Some of her desserts are really good but for the most part her food is too bland for me. Her hot chicken salad is good with a few modifications.

teaspoon61 -> RE: Paula Deen (7/2/2008 7:42:29 PM)

Wow - What a variety of opinions.

I don't have cable so I can't watch her show frequently I have seen it when Ive been at friend's homes. I like what I saw.

As far as her book, I liked her candidness.

daisies4u -> RE: Paula Deen (7/7/2008 5:25:53 PM)

I had forgotten which chef was "most annoying" until I watched turned on the TV to FN this weekend and saw Semi-Homade with Sandra Lee. She is definately the most annoying in my book. I mean she decorates her kitchen to match her outfit. And the way she says L. She kind of rolls it off her tongue. I just wanna smack her.
