This is a two part question?

1.Does Jesus still make personal visits to people in manner that He made to the Apostles Paul and John?

Acts 9:3-6 (Paul)
3As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven. 4Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?"
5And he said, "Who are You, Lord?"
Then the Lord said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. F41 It is hard for you to kick against the goads."
6So he, trembling and astonished, said, "Lord, what do You want me to do?"
Then the Lord said to him, "Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do."

Rev 1:10-13 (John)
10I was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet, 11saying, "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last," F6 and, "What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia: F7 to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea."
12Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band.

2.Does God still make personal promises to individual people? I not talking about Scriptural promises found in the Bible. I am talking along the line of a prophetic word from a Prophet or visitation from God the Spirit or Son.

I believe the answer to both questions is yes. However, I would like to know the thoughts of others on these matters.

I personaly have seen visions while awake, receive prophetic messages, been touched by an angel to comfort me (I did not see it, but felt it as the Holy Spoke told me unadibly that it was an angel touching me). I have also been visited by demons in my sleep and witnessed demonic attacks upon others. However, I have never a personal visitation from Jesus.

The only supernatural visitation I had came from a demon. I was having a normal dream. I was sitting in a church listening to a sermon from a preacher I did not know. I got up to leave the church. Then all of a sudden I heard a deep voice call me by name, Ryan Matthews sit down. I turned around in the dream and saw that the preacher did not look like himself anymore. His eyes had turned red, his vains where budging out, and he had gained a lot of weigh. I was overcome by fear, so I sat down. GO ahead call me a chump.

This demon straight gave me his full name in a language I could not understand. He then gave me his rank and name of the place he ruled. He called himself prince something and threaten to kill my family if I did not stop a local Bible study that a friend and me had just started. He said that he did not like the fuss I was causing in his domain and that I would have to stop. He actually held a conversation with me in English of about five sentences, but I said nothing return. The funny part was that he was disquise as a preacher in a robe that some pastors wear and standing behind a pulpit while he spoke to me in my sleep. The dream was confirmed by my roommate who had a visitation by the same demon on the same night. Another funny thing was that my roommate was not saved. He told me that night that his wife called herself a grey witch and practiced witchcraft. I actually confronted her about a few days because my wife had been hanging with her off post. Needless to say, I eventually had to change my barrack's roommate and kept the Bible Study going after a one week pause out of fear. I had to seek a lot of mature counsel and prayer to get past it, but I did. Can't nobody ever convince me that this event was not real and did not take place.

Anyway back to the point, what do you guys say about the two questions?

Does God make personal visits?

Yes.

"Thou hast granted me life and favour, and thy visitation hath preserved my spirit." (Job 10:12)

If He met with people as He met with Paul, then we could legitimately have Apostles around today - something I do not believe is happening. Also, Christ visited John in order to help him write the Apocalypse, and since Scripture is entirely complete and finished, I see no reason for a visit like that to occur today.

To what end? What would be God's purpose in doing this?

There have been many visions in the past - Lourdes, Fatima, Medjugorie, Knock etc ...

I suspect the reason there aren't many right now is because we have made God unwelcome in our modern world.

Since when has God not acted because of our opinions of Him?

Hi MrFribbles,

I see your point - God doesn't need our permission before He acts.

When you look at the world today: we've stopped teaching Christianity at school (in the UK at least), Christianity is rarely practiced or taught at home, church attendances are falling, church leaders leave much to be desired, many have never held a Bible in their hand never mind read it, Christianity is shunned and ridiculed by the media, etc... etc ... Is it any wonder that God is leaving us to our own devises as we ruin this world.

Sure, he would communicate with us ... if He found someone worthy.

Worthy? Who among us can claim any worth in comparison with God?

manichunter,

Yes, I believe Jesus still manifests Himself to people today, and I believe that God still makes personal promises to people. I believe He also still calls people today and directs and guides their lives, just as He did in the Bible. From Genesis to Revelation - indeed, for all of the history of life on planet earth up until about 1900 years ago - God has spoken to mankind, revealed Himself through manifestations, dreams, visions, prophecies, angels, etc. and it makes no sense to me to think that God no longer does the same things anymore! I believe God is still speaking and revealing Himself to people today, but perhaps like Samuel (see 1 Samuel 3), people don't realize it is God who is speaking. Blessings!

I have...but I rarely share it. It was about 17 years ago. I don't like to share in detail really, as I think it best I try to hide behind The Lord Jesus Christ. But it was very real...

I think I have only shared it 4-5 times approx. in the past 17 years.

Why wouldn't you want to share a way God has worked in your life?

I don't know, really. I guess I don't want people to think ,that I think I am super-spiritual or something as I am aware that most people don't have visitations such as I have had.

Frankly, I have never thought it through until your question.

It was kind-of like a Dwight L. Moody type experience....

Alright. If it will help someone's faith I will share. But I have to run now. It will be a little later today, OK?
