I pretty much know whose kids home school, whose go to public school, and whose go to christian school on these forums, but I don't know what the school background of the adults were..so tell me what kind of schooling did YOU have..this is about YOU, not your kid!![:D] I'll start with myself K-2 christian school (_ _ _ _name of my town _ _ _ _ _ _ christian school) 3rd and 3rd (yes, I had to repeat the year) public school, and the second year had the BEST TEACHER I EVER HAD (Orange Grove Elementary in Charleston, S.C.) 4th -the first part of 7th grade ..Charleston Christian School in Charleston, S.C. 4th grade was the WORST teacher I ever had..yes I know it is a public forum, and he could read this. I hope he does. middle of 7th--for about 2 months..the same christian school as K-2 7th grade-1st half of 10th grade--Valley Christian in Cerritos, CA last half of 10th grade--Fountain Valley High School in Fountain Valley, CA. 11th and 12th--home school jr. college--public (obviously) college--christian--Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, GA..no I never graduated, but I have an AA, and am only a year short of a degree. Now how about you? Also, if you made a different educational decision than the one you made for your child, please tell, if you wish, what led you to that decision. I am curious, because I know there are people on these forums who went to school, and then home schooled their own kids, and their are also some who were home schooled by their parents, and are choosing to send their kids to school, and not home school at all. And I'm NOT saying any one way is good or bad, right or wrong, I am just curious.

Letsee...when I was really little I went to a Christian preschool at a Luthern church. I think it was called Kiddie Kollege. I'm not sure how many days a week I went--it was too long ago to remember things like that. I have a few vague memories, and I was the only girl in a class of about five. I think I was there a couple of years. Then my mom enrolled me in public school for Kindergarten. There was no bus service, so we had to walk there with my little sister (about two miles) or I had to ride with someone else. I was there for about four days, and my mom pulled me out at that point and began to homeschool me. I was homeschooled from then on until I graduated high school and got married at the same time. I haven't been to college (yet) but my homeschooled husband went to college a few years ago. I have homeschooled my own kids from the beginning. We've never even (seriously) considered doing anything else.

Oh this is easy! Preschool - Head Start and my mom and her best friend were the teachers. Grades K - 6 - The same elementary that my brother's kids currently attend and all my siblings attended. Had good teachers, had bad teachers, but made it just fine. The good teacher far outshone the bad ones! Grades 7 - 12 The same Jr/Sr. High that my nieces and nephews are or will be attending, that ALL my siblings attended. The only difference now is that they have a new building and it is located on the same acreage and is now attached to the elementary school. In fact there are a few teachers that had just started their teaching careers when I was there that are STILL teaching now! My niece had the same third grade teacher that I had! The only difference is that he had only taught 2 years and was in his 20's when I had him and now he in his 50's has many more years under his belt![;)] My eldest was homeschooled for a time and now all of my children attend public school in a pretty decent district. That said - If the need arose I would pull them in a heartbeat and homeschool or online charter school them again. Blessings, Garsy

They started out in a very good public school, and while their education was good, we realized that what we wanted accomplished in them(character traits, training and correcting flaws, work ethics, etc), couldn't happen to our liking with them away from us for 7 hours a day. And we seemed to always have to go behind and correct things they were told or taught. In addition, one child needed lots of supervision and direction, and the other was extremely excelled academically, and neither were getting what we felt they needed in the system. We decided no one had more at steak and wanted more for our kids than we did, so we needed to be the ones to do it the way we felt was best. They were in first and fifth grades when we began homeschooling and we did it through high school. It was by far the best choice we made for our kids.

Grade 1--a little country school that was in danger of not having a grade one teacher if enough kids weren't enrolled so I started a year early. Grade 2-3--two different public schools and three different classrooms. They put me in the "slow kids" class at first because, since I was from the country, I obviously wouldn't be as smart as the city kids [&:]. It wasn't long before they moved me across the hall to be with the smart kids. Then, in the middle of grade three we moved to a different part of the city and attended a different school. Grades 4-10 a three room--three teacher school from grades 1-10 run by the church. School population=66. I loved it and really appreciate all that the teachers did there. Grade 11 and half of 12--boarding school two provinces away, also run by the church. Last half of grade 12--correspondence. That was NOT a good move. My marks really plummetted. I have four sons. I started out homeschooling the eldest because he already knew everything they'd teach in grade one and we had a lot of encouragement to do this from our family doctor whose wife was homeschooling their kids. But during his grade one year, I gave birth to our fourth child and lost confidence that I had the time and energy to give the attention home-schooling required so I put him in public school. All the boys attended public school for grades 1-6 except that each had a year or more of homeschooling. Each child was homeschooled for a different reason and each in different grades at different times. Grades 7-12 they went to a so called Christian school. It was only much later that I realized that the church conference that ran this school was ultra liberal, theologically. Talk about disappointment! But by that time the eldest was nearly finished there and the academic and music programs run by the school were top-notch so I didn't switch them elsewhere.

There was no kindergarten in my town when I started school. Grades 1 thru 8 were in the same school. Grades 7 & 8 were in a separate section of the building as it was added on while I was in the lower grades. I had the same kids going to school with me from grades 1 on up and it was an exciting time when a new kid showed up. It was a public school in the mid-west. Grade 9 We moved to the east. I went to a high school that was in the country as my dad moved us as far away from the main metropolitan area as he could when his job took him to Washington, D.C. Grades 10 thru 12 My new public school was in a corn field, still in the country but closer to where I lived and I didn't have as far a bus drive to get there. Freshman and sophomore year of college. Went to a mainly teacher's college down the road from Virginia Polytechnical College VPI Got married after the sophomore year. In my 40's I returned to college and after 6 years earned an AA and a BS degree. In the mid-west again at a public college. I sent my kids to Christian preschools and the 3 oldest went to a Christian school. The oldest graduated from it after 6th grade, the next oldest asked to be put in public school when she was in 3rd grade, the next in line I put in public school when he was in 2nd grade. The youngest of my 4 children only went to the Christian preschools and then attended public school. Never tried to homeschool. Ginny

Me too! My graduating class was 56 kids INCLUDING 3 foreign exchange students! One of my best friends ever - we started HEAD START together, graduated highschool together and went away to the same college! I managed to finish college, while he had to drop out half way through due to family issues at home. Well, I don't have kids so I can't answer part 2, but: Kindergarten: The city's public school system Grades 1-8:Our Lady Star of the Sea elementary school High School: Christian Brothers Academy Yes, I survived 12 years of Catholic school. Probably explains a lot to those who know me. [:D]

Of course, I went to public school when kids behaved, back in the days, but I was SHY....... Had almost no friends because of my shyness.

I was an orphan who slipped through the cracks in Charleston, SC. I went to second grade in Charleston, SC and in Columbia, SC. I went to second grade again in Columbia, SC. Third and part of fourth were in Hawaii, on Oahu. Fourth, fifth and sixth were elementary school in Concord, CA. Seventh was intermediate school in Concord, CA. Eight was intermediate school in Gurnee, IL and then back to Concord, CA. Ninth and part of 10th, high school in Concord, CA. Dropped out my 10th grade year, but decided to go back just before 11th grade. I took the remaining courses I needed for 10th grade during my 11th and 12th grades at four different high schools in Modesto, CA. During my senior year I also took advantage of ROP and went to cosmetology school. I went also to Modesto Junior College. All public schools. I wanted so badly to go to a private school, but mom couldn't afford it and dad wouldn't pay for it. They said I could go if I paid for it myself. But with making up courses that I missed in 10th grade, going to cosmetology school and having to clean house and take care of my younger brother and sister, there was no way I could hold down a job. Looking back, I was a perfect candidate for being homeschooled. However, that wasn't really done back then. Even if it was, my parents wouldn't have considered it at all. Thinking of going back to college or taking some online courses in the fall.

I was homeschooled from the time I was 4 to the time I was 15. When I was 15, I started 10th grade at the local public high school, which at the time had 2700 students in grades 10-12. Talk about a big change...My junior year the freshmen were moved to the high school, bumping the school population up to 3700 or so. My graduating class was just under 700. I am now going into my sophomore year a small (less than 2000 undergrads), private, Catholic liberal arts college well-known for their academics. I love it, though I have questioned my decision at times, mostly because of monetary issues, the fact that I would like to be a stay-at-home mom, and that I want to major in theology but I'm not Catholic! I am going to homeschool my kids at least through elementary if not through middle school. If I can't homeschool them, I'll probably ask my mom if she could - my youngest sibling is 19 years younger than me, so chances are she'll still be homeschooling anyway! I can't stand the thought of sticking a kid in a desk for 7 hours a day when they could get everything done in 2 hours max., have plenty of time to play or read, and still learn a lot without having to conform to school ideals and rules of what should be done when and how (regarding schoolwork). This is the precocious, would-have-been-bored-to-tears-in-public-elementary-school child in me speaking!

I've been to a few different schools in my life. I can't remember where I went to Kindy (I keep meaning to ask my parents but I'm not sure they can remember where we were living at the time). I did two terms of Reception in a Lutheran school in the town where we lived. We moved during the summer. The first 3 terms of Grade 1 I did at Moonta Bay Area School before we moved again. Rest of Grade 1 through to Grade 6 I was at Strath Primary. Grade 7 & 1 term of grade 8 was at the middle/high school there before we moved again. Grade 8 through 12 I was at Birdwood High. For a term in grade 10 I went to New Zealand and was at Malborough Girls College. So in my 13 years of schooling I was at 6 different schools - 3 of them for less than a year. My parents were content with the public schooling system (and we couldn't really afford private) so my only private schooling was the 2 terms of Reception - none of which I can actually remember anyway. The primary school I remember best was Strath and that had a student population of just over 500. So when I went to Birdwood High it was so different. Most of the kids had come from small schools with student populations of about 50....I couldn't really comprehend so few students. My high school had just over 700 and there were 122 in my graduating class.

I went from K to the middle of 3rd grade at Buchanan (Michigan) High School. My class was the last one to go thru all 13 grades in one building, although I personally did not. The class behind me had 6th grade at Ottowa Elementary before returning for Jr High. The 2nd semester of 3rd grade my mom transfered me to Stark Elementary (all my kids attended Stark as well) to avoid bullying. It didn't work. The bullying there was even worse. 7th grade found me back at the High School for Jr High. I graduated HS from there in 1973. That fall I attended Michigan State Univ, and graduated with an engineering degree in '77.

Basically it's the first year of school before grade 1. We start when we're 5 years old in Reception and then go onto the graded years. In New Zealand they have forms as well. From what I can remember I was in fourth form = grade 10.

K-3rd...small Christian school, used Abeka for elementary, ACE for high school, closed the year I finished 3rd grade (skipped 2nd grade) 4th-9th...small Christian school, which used ACE solely[:'(], we left when there was a major legalistic split 9th-11th...small Christian school, used Bob Jones which is way advanced from ACE, so I repeated parts of 9th 12th...small public school, graduating class either 23 or 28 (it escapes me at the moment), Christian school had run out of classes for me to take. This was the worst year of my life, for many reasons. One year of college at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY. I went on scholarship, but was still messed up from the garbage the year before. I dropped out before I flunked out, came home after a few months, and married my husband. We homeschooled our oldest through half of second grade and then put him in the same Christian school I was in from 9th-11th. He is doing great there and will remain there at least through next year. We plan to homeschool our other kids. If that does not work, they will be in Christian school. Public school is not an option for us at this time.

They stopped homeschooling me because I was teaching myself from textbooks and didn't have the motivation necessary to continue doing it. Also, the public school had extracurriculars which would have been difficult for me to do while being homeschooled. Christian school was not considered, mostly because of the expense - it would have been impossible for us to pay for it without a full scholarship. I don't think my parents particularly liked any of the schools nearby, either. I am very glad I went to public high school. I think it made the transition to college a lot easier; I had a class rank, was familiar with a classroom setting, and didn't have to have a list of all the curricula I'd used in high school in order to apply. Also, I'd been able to participate in extracurriculars like the school newspaper, the school yearbook, choir, and foreign language (though the foreign language didn't do much besides look good on the transcript). I took several AP and honors classes, which was extremely beneficial, especially AP English.

I'm sorry that happened to you.[:(] Yes, in retrospect, I could have gotten in a year at community college while still living at home. But...I am the oldest in my family and I wasn't aware of that option and no one suggested it to my parents, so...it's all water under the bridge now. The school itself was not the reason it was the worst year of my life, though I'm sure it didn't help. My ex-boyfriend was arrested, tried, and convicted of child molesting that year.
