KuKu -> Plans make you, oh single one, for holiday fun? (7/4/2008 4:59:56 PM)

It's a holiday today in the US at least- and there are several more this year[8D] (some will be shocked I know[;)]).

What do you do on the holidays? Hang with friends? Family? Sleep til 6 then go back to bed at 7? Work? Wish you had someone to hang with?

This a dual question really. What are you/ have you done today? What are your 'usual' plans for the holidays? Does it change by the holiday?

ETA Prariehiker's question : Would the fact that you're single change your vacation plans or prevent you from going to places that you'd like to go because you're single?

Well for 4th of July, there is a family that hosts a party for the whole church every year, so we go to that. I am blessed with church family.

OH, I was just about to post this question. I'll come up with my answer later. But to add to the question, would the fact that you're single change your vacation plans or prevent you from going to places that you'd like to go because you're single?

I'm also on my way to my vaca in two weeks, and I need some ideas to do.

Today I'm weeding the yard. Except for during these random rain spurts!

And most holidays are "sleep in" days for me and I'll splurge and eat a bunch of carbs. [;)]

I'm not big on celebrating though... not because I'm single, but just because I don't care. [8D]

I average about twenty six hours sleep in a work week. Holidays I just turn the alarm clock off and wake up when God tells me to.

I'm resting......[:D]

mutinywxgirl -> RE: Plans make you, oh single one, for holiday fun? (7/4/2008 8:30:46 PM)

I've worked a normal day today - and am really doing nothing tonight different at all. IF the family situation were different, I would be out with friends.

I asked this after I returned from Wal-Mart with a grill- before I started using it LOL And spent the rest of the day trying to grill hotdogs... after 2 hours we had mom and stepdad over for hotdogs, chips, raw corn (off the grill) and dessert- what a day!! No more charcoal, I want gas for life!!!!!!!!

I spent the day watching the Twilight Zone marathon on the SciFi channel. Now that's my idea of a great holiday/day off!

mutinywxgirl -> RE: Plans make you, oh single one, for holiday fun? (7/4/2008 11:16:46 PM)

I'm watching a GREAT soccer game right now - online - with a good friend as the referee, officiating for David Beckham - in LA. How much more patriotic can you get?????

LOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But, I'm smiling - seriously smiling for my friend doing the game. [:)]

I spent the holiday tearing up my kitchen floor so I can lay down a new one. It is more time consuming than I thought. I'll probably spend the next couple of weeks fixing up my house before I move. I usually spend holidays working around the house...or at work.

BugLady -> RE: Plans make you, oh single one, for holiday fun? (7/4/2008 11:20:39 PM)

I'll be heading out soon to the usual spot to watch a fireworks display. I've been taking my mother for years. It's become a tradition for us. Traditions are good.

John_O -> RE: Plans make you, oh single one, for holiday fun? (7/5/2008 12:25:52 AM)

I went up north to see my family. Arrived here very late last night. Woke up and went swimming before breakfast. Spent the day at my sister's and then went to watch fireworks with the Girl and my niece and her beau.

Tomorrow we go further up north to see my grandma. I've not been up there in 4 years or more. So I need to go see her, and take some pictures of he town so I don't forget

trinigirl722 -> RE: Plans make you, oh single one, for holiday fun? (7/5/2008 12:29:40 AM)

I slept in a little and then spent the day doing catch-up stuff and enjoying not hurrying. If I could have, I would have preferred to get together with friends or family for some kind of celebration. But I sure did enjoy just having a day off to go slow![:)]

ladioffaith -> RE: Plans make you, oh single one, for holiday fun? (7/5/2008 1:12:10 AM)

I did a whole lot of nothing today. Helped my friends unload their van after house-sitting. Checked on my other friend's cat. Got my computer mostly up and running. (Yay!) Sat on my hands to keep myself from calling customers I need to check on before I left for my trip.

Now am staying up way too late watching bad TV and locating jewelry for my trip ...

shemaromans -> RE: Plans make you, oh single one, for holiday fun? (7/5/2008 2:14:36 AM)

The family got together, went to the city's celebration, and ate hotdogs. Then we returned home and played Star Wars Trivial Pursuit and a game of Risk (I almost won for the first time in my life!!). After that, we sat around talking--lots and lots of laughter. Today was one of the best Fourth's that I've had a while.

Today is pretty much indicative of how my family usually spends holidays (minus the city celebration and hotdogs). We enjoy being together.

Well, we had the party, and it was pretty nice. I didn't feel too out of place, but I did get my feelings hurt. I was talking to this couple that are always really nice to me, and are hispanic. The husband works outside alot, and he was showing me how tan he was getting on his legs (I know that sounds bad in print, but it wasn't, he was wearing shorts, and his wife was right there), and I said even his not tan ankle was darker than my skin. And I thought they were just going to chuckle, or say, not to worry, and point out some attractive feature I DID have (I do have some, even if I am miss paleness), and the wife said, "Yeah, look at your leg,it's as white as the chair." Yes, I was sitting in a white chair. I was really really hurt.[sm=crystreams.gif][sm=crystreams.gif][&o] And I wasn't wearing shorts, just capri pants.

Holiday!!!!? What holiday!!! - did I miss an announcement.
What? (pause to listen to someone murmuring in the background). Oh! A holiday in the US. Oh we didn't get a day off yesterday, it was work as usual.
Happy 4th of July to the US Crosswalkers.[sm=usa.gif]

I do not begrudge you the day off. I certainly do not.
Why you ask? [8|] Ahem! My country is in the top ten for the MOST holidays in the year [:D] [8D].
And the citizens all cry HOORRAY!!!! [:D] The government isn't too pleased about it though. We soothe their ruffled feathers by pointing out that we're not #1 in the category. We're just close to it.[8D]

OneOfHisJewels
I simply can't bear to reprint what the wife said.
I think that remark was quite insensitive.
Maybe they didn't realise how hurtful it was, because English (I assume) isn't their native language.

J3jamie -> RE: Plans make you, oh single one, for holiday fun? (7/5/2008 9:45:36 AM)

I had an exciting holiday. I slept, watched tv (histoty channel series on the Revolution) and vegged.

I did go to the fireworks Thursday night with my daughter. XH has her for this holiday.

It is actually nice to chill and not do anything productive now and then.

KuKu -> RE: Plans make you, oh single one, for holiday fun? (7/5/2008 10:47:25 AM)

the OP mentioned it being a US holiday- though I am QUITE surprised that it is not one in certain other places too!!!! I worked with neighbours to our north, and if there wasn't a holiday a week, they'd just celebrate one of ours [;)][8D]

I am still recovering from this virus/cold, but I may head out later on to visit someone though.

trainfan -> RE: Plans make you, oh single one, for holiday fun? (7/5/2008 12:24:41 PM)

I am closed on major holidays so spent the day mostly working on things outside. [:D]

We used to do the 4th of July up big. But now that my son is grown, he goes out with his friends, leaving me to fend for myself. So... I got a lot of homework done yesterday!!! [:D] It's cool because I really enjoyed having a day to get caught up.
