Good Thur. Morning Everyone Ginny, thank you, yes, we think Isabelle is a keeper! The other two granddaughters are keepers also. I'll be posting their pictures soon. Isabelle reminds me of my daughter, Brandi, when she was little. Lily reminds me of my son, Howie, when he was a toddler. And Emma has the biggest brown eyes you ever seen. She gets them from her mommie. I could take all three of them home with me, that's for sure Leah, Yup, we sure could do w/o them deer flies and skeeters! I sprayed with Listerine before I went out to the garden. Kept the skeeters away but did'ent work for the deer flies. I went back later and got the garden done tho. I used to make a veggie/cabbage soup. Loved it Thats when all the kids were home to eat it. My husband does'ent care for soups tho. So I don't make it anymore. Dee, I just took my youngest in for his Temps. Had to bring his birth certificate AND his social security card. We need TWO proofs that he is who we say he is. Then I let him drive the last mile home I guess he was'ent that bad..but that's how I felt.

Good morning, Barb! I've just done outside for a quick repot on a plant that some bugs were trying to eat up. Put it in a pot and moved it to the back stoop. Hopefully taht will get it away from that garden which seems to be bad for bugs that like to eat my planst . . . anyway, it's a gorgeous 69 degrees out right now, and I'm trying to tell myself I should be in here sewing instead of outside in the swing, which is where I want to go . . . owell, guess I can sit out there tonight for a bit. The soup turned out really good. In fact, even tho we'd already eaten supper by the time it got done, Bill had to have a bowl of it and said he thought it was better than the porksteaks w/tomatoes, onions & peppers that I'd fixed for supper . . . had I know he'd like the soup, I could just planned that for supper and not done the pork steaks . . he wasn't wild about this soup when I fixed it before cuz it has very little meat in it. I'm really fixing it for me to eat for lunch because it is so filling and so healthy. Guess now I'll need to share. Ok, need to get to the sewing room. Garrett isn't yet here, but I'm assuming he will be soon.

Dee, I glad too you saw that poison ivy before it saw you! Yikes....I am very allergic to the stuff. Leah, how nice to have a adopted grandson like Garrett to enjoy and get paid too. I smiled at the picture of Garrett getting up and down Bill's lap. I am doing o.k. today. I am posting below a prayer request my oldest son sent me by email. Please pray for his girlfriend April. I promised my son I would ask for prayers. hey mom i was just wondering if you could start a prayer chain for april....she has those two abscessed teeth and now has cancer and is in just all around bad health....i love this girl mom and for once in my life i am happy but i couldnt stand the thought of loosing her just as soon as i have found her and need and want a prayer chain started for her asking for her good health....she has biobsy thursday and i just pray that they dont find anything bad and that it is something that can be treated. thank you and i love you mom your son April has 4 little children, two who are 2 and 3 live with her and my son. And two who are 7 and 8 live with their father. Both April and my son have been divorced. My son loves his new little girls and is a great dad to his daughter and April's daughters. This relationship is relatively new but my son is head over heals in love and is committed. I know he will stand by his girlfriend through thick or thin. He's had plenty of practice in caring for a person with cancer. He more than any of the other children helped tend to the needs of my husband when he was sick. When I was sick, he cleaned up after my husband's messes and hubby did have some messes both from the mouth and the renal area and my son helped him without complaint or unwillingness on his part. My son was dependable. April and my son have begun attending a church together one I've visited before and know is a good one. This boy of mine was the most resistant of my children to hearing about the Lord and would often mock me and put me down but you know he is also I believe the one who will grow the most in the Lord now that God has his attention. For him to ask for prayer and say I love you mom is a big change on his part. It has always been difficult for him to tell me he loves me or seek help from God. Please please hold this couple up to the Lord and cry out to Him for them. Thanks. Ginny

Wow, Ginny, I can hardly believe what I'm reading with all you've told me about this son! And yes, I sure will pray. Yes, it has been nice to have a sort of 'surrogate' grandson -- and get paid for keeping him Good Friday morning, everyone. I've been up & down quite a bit thru the night. I think I got enough sleep, but it sure was broken. It's very cloudy outside, so guess we're gonna get some more rain. And guess I better go roll my windows up -- don't know why I Left them cracked a bit yesterday, but I remembered it sometime during the night and was hoping the rain would hold off until this morning so I wouldn't have to go out in the dark & roll them up. It did

Good Friday Morning Everyone Ginny, Prayers have been sent up for April. I'm sure our Lord put your son in her life for a reason. It may be so he can help care for her, and her children. Mabey even to grow in faith as they turn to him in prayer. Leah, sorry you did'ent sleep to well last night. We also had rain durning the night, and into this morning. My windows were closed because I had to put the CA on yesterday afternoon. We are at 65 degrees right now, with the dew point at 60. Suppose to reach 90 degree's sometime today, with the dew point going up also. Rain throughout the day and into this evening. Suppose to clear up tomorrow tho. Just in time for a lovely week-end. I need to clean out my porch closet today. Was gonna wash some windows but with the forcast the way it is..I best wait till next week. A naughty bird messed up my front window which I dislike looking at I had the plesure of enjoying supper with my son Tommy last night. Made lasagna and I was the only one who would have enjoyed it. Cody was working, Katie was with her boyfriend, and hubby does'ent eat anything with spagetti sauce. (He had leftover hamburger patties) Then his wife called and asked him to come home. Guess Ethan was being a little pill and she could'ent handle him. Tommy made a comment about never haveing a problem with the little guy, and left. Is'ent it funny how one parent can handle a child and another can't? Guess he did'ent have his noon nap again. He always turns naughty when he skips that. I'm one who always made sure my kids had their daily nap..as with my daycare kids. They just do so much better when they have a nap.

Though when I got up at 4:00 am it had rain during the night. O.k. am in trouble if I invite my work study student to come visit with his 4 year old brother the VBS we are having in the park tomorrow? Never know with the way things are now-a-days if something innocent like that would be misconstrued. I already know he is a Christian I've had discussions with him where he volunteered that information. Another quiet night, the guys are at a baseball game out of town. I have to cut the memory shapes out. Made stars, moons, and suns with Genesis 1:27 on them. Have to cut the shapes out from the cardstock and then put cut off some magnetic tape so the kiddies can put them on their frig at home. Have to study the material the other teacher gave me too but first MUST take my nap......missed that noonday naptime, Barb, and I'm needing it. Ginny

From last week's thread: Welcome, MomaPyratekk! Your church activity for the Fourth was a good idea! It's good to hear of your rededication. Thank you for introducing yourself. Sounds like you have a full life! Ginny, it's been a week since you mentioned having trouble with your "jaw teeth." How are you doing with them now? It sounds like you had a wonderful Independence Day. Dee, what a cool way to make ice cream! When you did that before, did the lid have trouble staying on? Linda, it sounds like you had a great Fourth of July as well. An American friend gave me this link (one American's view of Canada's response to the Fourth of July) yesterday: http://ny.metro.us/metro/blog/my_view/entry/Canada_Too_big_for_its_britches/12925.html#email I thought it very funny. Bill, a lazy time on a holiday can be quite nice. That's how I spent Canada Day. From this week's thread: Barb, how cool about Katie Sue and her engagement! Good for her boyfriend/fiancé for wanting to ask you first. I'm glad too that you've been able to resolve things with Amanda. I'm sure you feel very relieved. Good for you for talking to her about things! I hope it goes well when you have the same conversation with Sarah. Linda, what a good idea to introduce yourself to Christine! I guess I'll do that when I'm finished responding to the rest of the posts in this thread. I've tried gardening but I have yet to succeed. I think part of the problem is that we have a lot of big trees in the area and so we don't get a lot of direct sunlight. Also, our very small back yard is dominated by a large spruce tree. Apparently the needles that fall to the ground are very acidic, making it hard for anything to grow in its vicinity. I would love to grow berries of any sort. They are so yummy. Barb, we used red satin for our guests to sign their names on at our wedding. Unfortunately the ink kind of bled, making it hard to read some of the names. Ginny, I will pray for April. How awesome that your son actually asked you to pray for her! What an amazing change in him! I can sure empathise with those abscessed teeth she has. That is way too painful. As for cancer, there should be a law forbidding young people to get it. Yeah, I know. Wishful thinking. Happy belated birthday to your mom, Bill! By the way, I finished reading the five Rosenberg novels this week. They're awesome. Now I'm reading the non-fiction book that gives the behind-the-scene details. Ginny, I can't see a problem with inviting someone to an event outside of work. People do it all the time. Two people find they have a like interest and it's natural for conversation to go to those areas they have in common. If there's an event around that common ground, I think it's quite normal to mention it and give an invitation. So, an introduction of me to Christine. I've been married 34 years and have four sons, the youngest is turning 22 in a few weeks. I've been here in these forums for over seven years and am so glad for this community God has given me. I live in Canada, just a few hours north of Fargo, North Dakota. I have a personal thread (link is below in my signature) where I talk more indepth about my life--my walk with God and the issues I deal with--marriage, depression/mental health, and more. Dh (that's how I refer to my husband, Christine, and my sons are ds1, ds2, ds3, ds4) and I went to a family camp this past week. We've been to this particular camp many times in the past. It's in a very large forest on the edge of a lake. The camp is full when there are 50 people, which we had last weekend. But as the week progressed, people had to return to the city so, at the end there were only 24 of us. I had a great time. The teaching was awesome and I was able to spend time getting to know a few people better. One really cool thing happened the last night I was there. Everyone else was in another building doing karaoke. I wasn't interested so I spent my time in the dining room reading and writing. I heard and kind of saw something hit the window and when I saw no kids appearing I figured it was a bird and went looking for it. It was a very brilliantly coloured blackburnian warbler: http://www.learner.org/jnorth/images/graphics/u-z/Warbler_Blackburnian_MikeMcDowell.jpg It was still living but when it tried to fly away it couldn't do more than flap its wings. I picked it up and held it. It's a very tiny bird and at first I wondered if it was a humming bird but it's not quite that small. It looked exactly like that photo in the link. So I held it cupped in my hands for a while and finally let him perch on my hand while I sat outside on the deck under a tree. I figured that way it could leave on its own when it was ready. He stayed with me for a good half hour or more. When different people came by, I would show it to them and let them pet it. Finally, when there were three kids and a grandmother all talking excitedly around it, petting it and taking photos of it, the bird had had enough and successfully flew into the tree above. I'm sure it will do fine now but it sure was a pleasure to hold such a beautiful creature for a short while. You can read more about my previous week in my thread. I've written one long post and will probably have a few more to write.

I hope your mom had a great birthday Bill! Good to have you back Maggie! That is a beautiful little bird. Ginny, praying here. I don't know why you couldn't mention VBS to your co-worker either. It rained here this morning. It was much cooler. Kind of nice. Except hubby and son were/are at scout camp without raingear and needed clothes. They got what they needed though. I went garage sale-ing yesterday afternoon and this morning. I thought of you Ginny! It wasn't really raining when I started, but started fairly early on. After the first garage sale I went to I had to go get my daughter because they had some books that looked like she'd be interested in. It's harder now to find books for her at garage sales than it used to be when she was younger. I got some books for my son last night and this morning also. Last night my 4yo had a birthday party to go to; she'd been so excited about it all week! It was at the park, and we went swimming afterwards. It was for a little boy who used to come here about once a week while his mom worked. His big sister and my middle girl are great friends too. Dee

Good morning everyone! It's much cooler here this morning also. In fact, it got down to 58 degrees last night. I just took a short jaunt down the sidewalk as the sun was rising to enjoy the cool air and the beautiful pink-tinged clouds -- nice! So, Bill just came in and asked that I skip church and go to breakfast with him, then to see my brother & wife while it was a cooler day and we could enjoy being outside for a while. I must go along with him as he's been wanting to do this for several weeks, and he doesn't ask me to skip church often. Dee, I bought at lot of books at garage sales when the kids were small. I always found it interesting to get a book with kiddy markings in it. There was generally no doubt about who the book formerly belonged to when a 5-8 y/o had it cuz they had their name all thru it . . . some of my favorite books to read to the kids were picked up at yard sales. 2 of them I still read (to Garrett now) -- The Runnaway Bunny & The Bundle Book . . cute stories! Maggie, so glad you had a good time at the retreat! Bill, Happy (late) 81st birthday to your mom! BTW, we watched that movie last night (The Bucket List) . . it was great!! Thanks for the suggestion Ok, gotta go get dressed.

Hope you have a good breakfast with your hubby Leah. Yes Dee I would have loved to have gone garage saleing with you. I love to buy books at garage sales around here they usually sale for 25 cents. Couldn't go yesterday though as I had to be at the VBS but there was a garage sale that was advertising lots of sewing crafts and I would have loved to have gone to that one. I made a pecan pound cake last night and am getting ready to go back to church went this morning at 8:00 for service then bible study and going back for a luncheon for some missionaries. Reason I made the cake. Ginny

I'm glad you got to enjoy the cooler weather Leah! Gotta love the little ones practicing their names. It was cooler here this weekend. At the scout camp they put ice in the pool for early morning swims. Apparently my son wasn't too crazy about that. I don't blame him as cool as it was this weekend. So did VBS start Ginny? If so, how did it go? Dee

Yes VBS was on Saturday. My church is doing an outreach VBS where this summer we are using 3 Saturdays to go to 3 different parks in our city to have VBS. We had our first VBS this past Saturday. It went well. We only had 14 children but that was o.k. as it gave me a chance to see how things were going to be and practice all that S and I are doing during our teaching time. S and I made a big flannel board and then used flannel pictures of sun, moon, stars, animals, sea, fish, etc. What we did is I read the creation story, the children were given the flannel pictures before the story and as I read the story what they had when it was talked about they put on the big flannel board. Then after I read the story I went over the days of creation and talked about each day what God created. The theme of our VBS is "God loves you" and this shows in his creation of the world. After the reading of the story we passed around a hand mirror and had each child look into the mirror and tell what they saw. We talked about what 'image' means and how we were created in God's Image. The memory verse we chose was "God created man in his image". I made templates at work then went to Staples and had them copy them making 20 shapes each of stars, moon, and the sun. On the template shapes I had used Publisher to put the memory verse inside of the shape. After I cut out the shape I attached a magnetic tape to the back so the children could take the sun with the verse on it and put it on their frig, same with the moon, and the stars. So we let the children chose what shape they wanted then we talked about the memory verse. After this we did a skit on the creation story and during the skit rehearsed again the days of creation and what God created then we talked about how God prepared a home for man before he created him. We had asked before the story what each child liked to do outside. Now we talked about how God created the ground for them to play soccer on, the water for them to swim in, etc. according to what they said they liked to do. And we asked them why did God create the world and us. One of the children answered loudly because God loves us! Guess the theme got across to them. Thanks for asking, Dee. Ginny

Thanks everyone for praying for April. Guess my son needs some prayers too. Hubby told me last night that his house is in foreclosure because he didn't pay the taxes on it. This son had been living with us rent, utility free and had rented out his house so he could catch up on his finances. Guess he didn't do that. He is living with April in her apartment. Hubby also told me that our son has been missing work to take care of April and his work told him if he misses one more day of work he's fired. Well, this Thursday is when April gets her biopsy done and I have no doubt my son will miss work to be there with her. We cannot afford to bail him out again and since he's left it has been so much easier around here to keep things straightened and clean. And easier on us not to be babysitters all the time for our granddaughter. I run out of energy fast anymore so I do appreciate having two less mouths to feed. I am really not up to taking in a girlfriend, her children and our son and his daughter so I don't know what he will do if he loses his job. Am I being unchristian in my attitude? Anyway could you pray for him? Thanks, Ginny

No. You are not being unChristian in your attitude. Truthfully, it's not healthy for parents to constantly be bailing out their adult kids from the consequences of the kids' bad choices. Easier said than done, I know, and you have a very compassionate heart but really, he has to feel the pain of the consequences before he's motivated to make the necessary changes in his life. {{{{{{{{{Ginny}}}}}}}}

Maggie, yes..pine tree's do make the soil alittle acidic I've been told. We used to have alot in our yard. But they needed to be cut down when we added bedrooms to our home. Since then hubby has planted three more. But they are no way near the house or my garden. Ginny, I agree with Maggie...you have to let them learn from their mistakes. I could'ent count how many times my son went w/o eletric, or hot water, or cable, and a phone because he did'ent pay the bills. We helped him once with the heat bill, only because our grandson was a baby. Then he was on his own. Made him work off that heat bill we paid also. You hate to see it but hope they learn from it. My son was also w/o someplace to live for a week. I really think he has learned now. That "tough love" parenting really does work. BTW..I have started a thread for this week
