Just a large thin cotton blanket. In fact the blanket in my avatar picture is one of her best swaddling blankets. Most of her other blankets are either too small or too heavy.

BTW she had another really good night last night. This has been way easier than I expected. I'm a little bit worried about tonight though, she's been napping a lot today. I finally gave up trying to keep her awake and put her in the crib for a nap. . .that was an hour and a half ago. I think I may need to wake her up soon.

I found the later in the day they napped, the harder it was for them to go down for the night. So I made sure they napped earlier in the day rather than later, and if they absolutely fell asleep later, I'd wake them after just a little while, even if they were a bit grouchy about it.

hmmm, interesting. Well I guess we'll see tonight if it makes any difference. She's awake now and sitting quietly on my lap letting me snuggle her and kiss her head. . .she just had a bath so she smells wonderful.

I would let her nap if she wants to and 2 hours should still be good for her to sleep at night. One thing I learned, of with mine anyway, was if they didn't get a good nap during the day for some reason they wouldn't sleep as good at night.

Thats how my little one is right now.

Emily have you tried a Kiddopotamus?

Isabel can't get her arms out of that but she can out of a blanket in about 0.2 seconds. I just can't wrap her tight enough with a blanket.

It's only 2:30 in the afternoon here, so hopefully it won't affect her sleep tonight too much. I think if she sleeps any later than 4:00 is when it really becomes problematic.

I've tried tiny receiving and large blankets and she squirms sooo well.

The Velcro on the Kiddopotamus' really helps me to position her and strap her in in the middle of the night in almost perfect darkness.

I was soo impressed at how well the nurses at the hosp and her pediatrician are able to swaddle with blankets.. helps that they do it a million times a day I'm sure.

I had a friend who tied a scarf around after swaddling, lol. Some book has really great instructions...can't remember which it is, but it's written by two moms who are pediatricians.

I learned how to swaddle from an instructional video.
I will admit I cheat sometimes by securing the loose end with a diaper pin. LOL

I have not tried the Kiddopotomus Brandy. I saw something similar in the store a few days ago, and it looked really nice, but it was a bit pricey. If I was to have another baby I would probably go ahead and buy one, but this one probably won't even want to be swaddled much longer.

Seriously? I could have sworn I remember us swaddling our baby dolls when we were kids.

I'm glad Evie is learning to sleep well at nights. I dreamed last night you let me babysit her for a week.

Emily you are a genius. Seriously.

I'm getting a diaper pin tomorrow at the store.

WHY didn't I think of that??

Oh ya.. maybe because I only swaddle her at night when I'm about to fall asleep on my feet.. hmm.

Hehe, I never thought of a diaper pin, I used a piece of duct tape to tape the end of the blanket to the burrito to keep it closed.

LOL :) I guess duct tape would do the trick as well.

Well Friday night was kinda rough. . .of course it didn't help that we went to a friend's house and kept her out past her bedtime. She didn't go to bed until 11:00. But Saturday night and last night she slept for 7-8 hours straight without even waking up to eat! I think that officially qualifies as sleeping through the night doesn't it? I had forgotten how good it feels to get that much uninterrupted sleep!

Hmm, I guess it had been too long, 'cause I didn't remember how to swaddle.

A week huh? I don't think you'd really want to do that quite yet.

No, probably not. But it was a fun dream, even if we were also in the process of moving into another house that week in my dream, and I kept calling her Saebella.

With mine I often found that any change of routine affected their sleeping at night. Moreso my ds than my dd.

I think we must have really worn her out this weekend. She slept nearly all night (from 8:00 pm to 4:00 am) then she ate and slept until 7:00 am. Around 9:30 she fell asleep again and has been asleep for almost 2 hours! I'd better make sure she doesn't do anymore napping this afternoon or we'll never get her to bed tonight.

As far as swaddling goes, my dd hated have her arms confined. She hat the infant seat we had because it confined her arms too. We learned to wrap under her arms. I have a lot of pictures of her sleeping with her arms straight out, 90 degrees from her body.
