Interesting...

quote:

Mr Ahmadinejad warned that Iran was ready to defend itself, saying that "the greatest threat in the Middle East and the whole world... is the United States' intervention in other countries".

He also suggested that Iran would not launch any attack on Israel - America's ally in the Middle East.

"There is no need for any measures by the Iranian people" to bring about the end of the "Zionist regime" in Israel, Mr Ahmadinejad said.

And asked if he objected to the government of Israel or Jewish people, he said that "creating an objection against the Zionists doesn't mean that there are objections against the Jewish".

He added that Jews lived in Iran and were represented in the country's parliament.

No comments to Ahmadinejad explaining his stance on jews?

That's suprising. The forum is usually filled with people who claims he has woved to exterminate jews.

I think it's not terribly surprising that Ahmadenijad would backtrack slightly in the face of what look like some real threats from Israel and to a lesser extent from the U.S. His new position also lets him play the victim in the event that there is an airstrike later this year. Which he almost certainly would - something along the lines of rhetoric like "See, I was right! They are out to get us!"

However, I have never believed he had these murderous intentions you reference. I believe he is playing politics. He knows how disastrous a real war would be.

I think that Ahmadenjad is an excellent student of our political system and our political candidates.

It is clear that he has learned to say what he believes in such a way that is very well disguised and very unclear so that he could later deny saying what he said and play the victim at the same time.

It is clear that he has learned that by playing down talk of war he could keep the issue before the public and use it against those who would oppose or question him about it.

Though I may tend to agree that this man is intelligent and is well aware how disastrous a real war would be for Iran, he is also aware that he could use the possibility of such a war to his advantage within his country not matter what happens.

I think Pres. Ahmadenijah is developing a wee bit of nuance in his speaking and is attempting to draw clearer distinctions about what he is saying, but the overall intent appears to be to cause the West to worry less about Iran getting its stockhold of nuclear weapons so that we won't thwart there doing so.

I think our government is on the right path in seeking to put up missiles in Eastern Europe. Iran views us as an enemy and seeks to get others to view us as such. We should treat them as people who view us as such, then.

God bless,

I have heard through the grapevine, so to speak, that it is viewed as almost a demotion in the State Department to be assigned to dealing with the 'religiousness' of the Mideast. (I am not wording this correctly.) That is very unfortunate as we are dealing with a very religious people when we are dealing with Muslims. It isn't that difficult to make ourselves less threatening to them and easier to accept by putting our arguments in terms of what the Prophets and Apostles have already stated. But because the Western elite holds the Bible and those who cling to it in such contempt they lose their ability to effectively communicate with these fellow humans and images of God.

God bless all abundantly,
