Recently within the last decade, there has been an upsurge of women and couples seeking alternative methods to achieve pregnancy. Wanting that parental experience, many have underwent infertility treatments and have even posted ads on sites such as 'Craigslist' reading "Surrogates needed to help create families-$22k-$30k" which in my opinion, is hardly enough for the 9 months of labor needed to create a baby. Man, which includes women, has this fixation on creating new life despite all the signs that we may not have much time left on this planet, considering global warming, rumors of a comet headed towards earth in 2012 AD, and never-ending wars and genocide in various continents across the globe. What about the life that is already here? Although, reports have been issued that there are fewer children in foster care, there is still over 500,000 children in the American foster care system, not to mention the larger number of children in foster homes around the world. Who is there to properly guide these children to their adulthood? Yes, there are numerous well known celebrities who are stepping in to make a difference but the percentage of their sort is very small and it's just not enough. Man, which includes women, is always trying to display his intelligence through innovative technology but again, when it comes to logical thinking, how are we so blind to the idea, that because tomorrow is not promised and the end of the world seems to be near, why do we not focus on the child0ren that are here now and not what life we wish to bring into this corrupted world? Of course, our superficial way of thinking tells us that having a child of our own allows us to view the transfer of our characteristic traits and the affect of our genes; but in the end, love for another despite the absence of your family blood, should surpass all shallow thoughts. We read to know we are not alone - C.S. Lewis
