Sue - mind posting the recipe for the brownies? I'm intrigued!

Think my husband would notice? He notices when I try to sneak stuff (veggies) by him.

German potato salad...mmm. Do you have a recipe for that. I had it at the German festival in Milwaukee and loved it.

It was too hot to cook. We had grilled cheese sandwiches, watermelon, fresh veggies, and jell-o salad.

Hmmmm....... Germanfest? You might be able to get the recipe online. Do you remember the resturaunt who was serving the potato salad? Most are more than happy to give out those recipes.

Tonight was leftover sliced beef and gravy. Hot Dogs for the girls, but I forgot to make a vegetable. Turtle cake for dessert.

Last night (and again for leftovers tonight) we had homemade beef and cheese enchiladas, guacamole with baked chips, and spicy black beans and zucchini on the side.

It doesn't matter. If he doesn't like it, that leaves more for you!

Black bean brownies

Ingredients:

1 package of family size brownie mix

one can of black beans

Drain and rinse black beans in strainer, return beans to clean can and fill can with fresh water (to the top-- you are basically rinsing and replacing all the stagnant, preservative laden black bean 'juice' with water)

Empty can into blender, liquefy.

Mix with brownie mix and bake according to package. You might want to use Pam to keep brownies from sticking. Add NOTHING else.

That's it! The brownies don't rise exactly the same as the egg and oil version, but they are very moist and fudgy. Plus, you have the extra fiber and protein. All my guys liked them, and I think they're better than recipes that replace the oil with pumpkin or applesauce.

He'll notice that they're different, but we couldn't taste the beans at all even though we knew they were there. I think you could just honestly tell him it was a new recipe and leave it at that.

Ohhh, so it's using a boxed mix. Hmmm.

I have this WONDERFUL recipe for brownies - butter, flour, cocoa, sugar, I think 4 eggs, and chocolate chips. Maybe a couple other ingredients. They're SO GOOD but very high in fat and calories, that's for sure!

Ha ha! There ya go!

Is that like the Jack Daniels sauce at TGI Fridays? I have a recipe for that, but it looks like too much work.

Still trying to figure that out. I want breakfast for dinner, but the kids don't. But they don't know what they want so I may get my breakfast after all.

I just mix a little Jack with my homemade BBQ sauce (onion, garlic, molasses, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, worchestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar) and use it just like BBQ sauce.

It is definitely too hot to cook, but I am anyway--it's my DS's 21st birthday and he has requested lasagne, so I am using the oven and we are having lasagne & garlic breadsticks.

Tomorrow we should have enough leftovers from the last couple of days so that we can just fix a plate and microwave it!

We had hamburger bean bake, French bread and lettuce salads. The electricity went off after the casserole had been in the oven for about 15 minutes. It's supposed to cook for 60-90 minutes. I left it in the warm oven for the full hour and it was pretty good. At least the ground beef was already cooked and all I was doing was heating it and letting the flavors mingle.

I didn't want to cook, so hubby suggested we go to the local steakhouse. Yum! And the owner ended up refusing to give us our ticket because hubby is hauling some chickens to the auction for him this weekend. Nice!

Don't you love it when you get that surprise meal?

Tonight I tried out my panni (did I spell that right) maker and we had all kinds of sandwiches. Tomorrw is no dinner, and Burgers on the grill are in the plans for Thursday, but we will see how that goes over.

We had our first BLTs of the year. A friend of dh at work gave him two tomatoes. Our tomatoes were set back once again by the deer. Well, at least they're not completely ruined like last year.... a bit of electric fence has helped a lot!
