It's been so long ago but, "Jesus Hold My Hand" was written the year I was born and also "He Lives". Either one could have been number one. I think I would choose, "He Lives" as the number one song the day I was born.

Gee, not a very appropriate song for a Pastor, Pastor Mike!

Actually, I think it wasn't until I was about 13, I was walking through the garden one day and heard God say "LET THERE BE MUSIC".

Interesting topic! The link said it was "It's all in the game" by Tommy Edwards. Never heard of either one. My first thought on this was it was probably something like "Rock of Ages", in Southern Gospel, but nevertheless I done a little googling on the subject. Didn't find much but I did find that the Chuck Wagon gang was going pretty good that year with "Hide Me Rock of Ages" (I was close) and "I'll Fly Away".

Enjoy reading the comments by others on this subject, but I have to admit as I read the songs that were popular when some of you were born, I can't help but relate to the infamous words of George Younce: "I've got socks older than that". I think I need a nap now. All that googling really took it's toll.

Honeycomb--Jimmie Rodgers.

For Himself it was the Tennessee Waltz--appropriate, I think, as he was born and raised in NJ and now lives in Tennessee

"Nature Boy" by Nat King Cole... tho' I do like lost of Nat's songs, I never particularly cared for that one

Not that I'm old or anything, but I recall every song that's been mentioned thus far...
even the one tgprsing came up with, and I think I heard God say "let there be music" about 10 years prior to Dagmat
which, BTW were both so funny that when I read those posts I really did almost ROTFL.
The best laughs I've had today, so thanks tgprsing and Dagmat

1970Rodney's was a good chuckle, too, bless his little ole' heart bein' walked over all these years and hopefully they tread lightly... BTW I've alwys luved that song

"Let's Get it On" by Marvin Gaye.

I tried to find what southern gospel song was # 1 in September of 1973, but I had no luck. I did find that "Touring That City" by the Inspirations was # 1 in November of '73 so I guess I'll claim that one, it's close enough.

I'm not too old, but if I went by how old and tired I feel today it was probably "Oonga Oonga Baaa Baaa" by Captain Caveman. I can only assume that's how a caveman would talk once they saved a lot of money by switching to Geico.

Percy Sledge - "When A Man Loves A Woman" was number one on Billboard when I was born.

Singing News wouldn't start printing a chart until four years later. I know I don't look that old...

I can't remember exactly what it was, but I think I recall that it involved mastodon hides stretched over a log....

"Honeycomb, won't you be my baby, oh Honeycomb be my own.
It's a darn good life, when you've got a wife like Honeycomb."

Good song, by the "Singng Brakeman" (he worked for the railroad) from Meridian, MS, where there is now his museum.

zzzzzzzzzz

P.S. He spelled his last name correctly, even though we are not kin that I know of.

zzzzzzzz
