Nicole: I hate when they do that! Either stop making them or dont' have them in stock! Did you know there is a potato shortage? And, thanks for the compliment!

There is seriously a potato shortage? Geez, first rice and now potatoes.

Yeah it is annoying Janine. I think its even more annoying in this instance because there is nothing else in the frozen treat aisle or even the bakery section that doesn't have gluten/wheat/dairy in it. I know lots of families that have kids that are either/or. Hopefully they will begin purchasing them again, I might call the company to see if they are not making them anymore, that could be the reason they aren't stocking them in the shops.

We don't have a potato shortage here, not that I know of anyway, potatoes are cheap at the moment here, cheaper than what they have been.

Sarah how are you doing? I was going to email you today to see how you were, I noticed you were quiet, but with a new bubba I knew you would of had your hands full

thanks for asking....I've been reading just not posting much because too much gets to me way too easily...ppd.

all the kids are doing good though. Justice was up to just over 9lb on wednesday at his apt. (birth weight of 8lb 8oz). He is trying to lift his head now....esp when he is in the wrap. He gets a few good seconds in then "collapses" back onto my chest...lol. On Jack's birthday (25th) he will be a month old already!!!!

Jack's birthday is next week...Jake's is next month....so we are trying to come up with something fun to do right between the two. We are thinking either the zoo or the science museum. I have only been to one science museum (in TN) and it was fun, but I am not sure about the ages of our younger crew. The heat outside might decide for us though....if it's too hot we won't do the zoo we will do the museum. It's been up around 95-100°F (35-38°C) here the past few weeks. I am used to the heat, and it's not as bad when pregnant...but still, that's H-O-T

Thanks for the conversion Sarah, I appreciate it

Janine you are blessed to have such a helpful hubby :) What a funny story huh? You will have to remember all of these stories for Jadon's 18th or 21st!!!

My mom has a story about me that I heard at my graduation, wedding, etc. Apparently I took off a poopie diaper and wiped it all over the walls, crib, myself etc. My uncle (young and single at the time) came to get me after my nap and he ran out of the room gagging.

Lovely eh?

So don't forget those stories Janine. Even better if you can take pictures

Yolanda...Sissy has done that so many times, I can't even count. Seriously. She went through a poop playing phase that was so bad, I had to keep her in onsies and long pants at night and nap time.
It started at about 2...and the last episode was a month or so ago...she's 4.
There were several times that I would come in her room and she would be covered head to toe in poop. The walls, bed, floor, toys..everything. *sigh*
She's done it in the car too.
Praise God that phase is over...
Sandy

Hi Sarah Does the science museum have anything special for younger kids? Our science centre has a program specifically for 5 years and under every Friday. But it's not something openly advertised, I had to search the website for the info.

I thought the same thing!!!

On the subject of poop - the baby I look after has the worst smelling poop I have ever encountered. Ok, so I've only ever encountered Akeelah's poop, but compared to this baby, Akeelah's smells like roses. Ughh...I seriously gag when changing the baby's diapers.

Potato shortage? Is this like the rice shortage? Seriously, it's weird to hear those things. We never had a rice shortage here. Our prices went up, but there was no shortage or rationing like we saw on the news in the US.

I don't watch the news because I start to have anxiety issues which is not good for me. So are they really rationing rice in places in the United States? There is plenty of rice on the shelves in our area to buy. Have I missed something?

Chelle, there are stores that are rationing rice. I think it's mostly due to people's over-reacting and hoarding though. I know earlier in the spring, maybe March, I had a very hard time finding whole wheat flour. I think for about 3 weeks it was out of stock at my grocery stores. But I think that was due to the fact that people were stocking up because they knew the price would sky-rocket.

Nicole, Reagan was alergic to milk products until she was about 17 months. I just mainly fed her fruits, veggies, and beans. She also ate Cheerios and Rice Chex. I didn't find any biting biscuits that were whey and casein free until she was much older. These biscuits are sold at a local grocery store. Don't know if they sell them in AU though. These Gerber snacks in apple flavor are dairy free. These were Reagan's treat until she could eat foods with dairy.

HERE is the web site for that one we would go to....looks like a ton of stuff, not sure how much for toddlers though (I did see that they at least have a section for 0-6yo though). If only it wasn't so hot outside!!!!! I know all the kids (and Paul included) would like the zoo more...I am just a wimp when it comes to heat. I loved it in Germany b/c I can handle the cold!!!

They were only rationing rice if you wanted to buy like 3+ 25lbs bags. It hurt small business more then it did the average citizen. I was just annoyed that I could *only* find a 20lbs bag of Jasmine rice because the commissary was out of smaller bags. No biggie really, IMO. People blow most things out of proportion. As for potatoes, they are still available and cheap here *shrug* We don't really eat them though...

Thank you ladies for the sweet comments about Caden! He's growing so fast!

Jae, thank you - the house is a work in progress and I guess I have kind of a strange taste in colors (the colorful rooms are the ones I've gotten to - all the crazy wallpaper is what was here already). I love the new avatar with Jadon's beautiful smile! I'm sorry about your poo episode, but glad you have such a sweet hubby. LOL

Brandy, it's just his boppy - we only let him snooze in it if we're right there with him. I'm loving your sleeping baby avatar too! Sleeping babies and smiling babies are just the best!! LOL

Nicole, he will be 8 weeks tomorrow! How time flies...

I had no idea about the rice or potatoes. It must not be affecting my area yet. We do eat both (even potato bread). Interesting.

Nicole (Lily)- The price of potatoes has gone up quite a bit here.

Caden is such a cutie!! I can't believe he is 8 weeks old and David is 5 weeks old already. I have recently gotten involved with a great mommy group in our area. They have an online site and meet in person. I'll email you an invite!!

I'm not sure Brandy, but David's thrush is not hard. His tongue and mouth were white all over and now it is almost gone and he just has a white patch on the inside of his lower lip.

I never had it Brandy, so I don't know. Donna seems to be the expert at thrush (poor lady has had it quite a few times I think)

Have you tried to google pictures of it or anything?

I have a question about switching from formula to whole milk? When has everyone switched? I know "they" say a year, but is it harmful to do it earlier?

Depends on who you ask, Yolanda. Dr.Sears says to wait until 2 years for babies who are formula fed and that breastfed babies should be breastfed as long as possible. We're just going to switch Gabby to the toddler formula, she's still on the 0-12 month kind.

my oldest started having whole milk at 11 months. She wouldn't nurse anymore, but wouldn't take formula either
my second was bottle fed (starting at 8mo) and by 11 months she was on whole milk too

thrush/yi.....
if it's white and you can't wipe it off, assume it is thrush and I suggest treating it as such.
what exactly do you mean by it being "hard"?

milk...
our first stopped nursing at 9mo and never did like formula, so he went on milk at that time. He was our earliest milk drinker...the others were closer to a year or after a year. Jack was the latest...he nursed til 20mo and started drinking milk just a month before he stopped nursing.

I'm just not sure what to do. Chase *never* finishes a bottle of formula. I make 6 oz bottles, and most times he eats 4-5 ozs. He doesn't get close to the recommended amount per day.
One time we were camping and I ran out of formula and gave him whole milk for one day and he polished off every bottle. I'm wondering if he likes it better, or if it's just easier to drink.

I dunno

if there are no allergy problems in the family, then I would switch him over...he is very close in age and obviously likes it better.

Sarah it's a hard nodule. I may take a pic later when she's awake and send it you if you don't mind. A small perfectly round hard nodule with a white center, it's not fluid filled feeling, it's not soft and I can't dislodge it. It doesn't appear to be painful at all to her though.

I really don't think it's thrush from what I've found online but I've never had thrush before!!!

I have a couple questions for her Ped so I may make an appt this week and just get it looked at there too.

Brandy ... sounds like a basic whitehead (pimple) to me ... one that might have a small crystalized centre. My kids got them all the time up until their 1st birthday.

ETA: sorry ... just re-read and saw it's on the inside of the mouth ... could it possibly be a small boil? Or a spot where baby has been gnawing? That's happened to my crew as well.
