I walk for exercise. A knee injury and work schedule keep me from doing much else.

Cycling is one of the absolute best exercises you can do to recover from a knee injury. It is often the recommended exercise for recovery after knee surgery.

And it is a lot of fun too!

True enough I had to do that in physical therapy. But I can't bike with the dog. I could perhaps rollerblade with him though.

No, please don't bike with a dog. My uncle did that a couple years ago and the dog went the wrong way and yanked him over the handlebars and he broke his collarbone, quite badly, had to have specially-made pins to put him back together! (um, my uncle, not the dog...)

My favorite exercise is cycling. My boys and I ride several times a week. Although keeping up with my oldest is all but impossible now days.

Do you have a lot of bike trails near you? I love the bike trails that meander along the river.

We have a county park about 200 yards from our front door with about 50 miles of Mtn. Bike trails, and we live on the very outskirts of town, and so we have some great country roads to ride on as well.

I see a lot of people who do. But I took a tumble once when I tried rollerblading with my dog. You need a well-behaved dog to do that.

I think I'm going to get rollerblades so I can join a group of friends who go biking/rollerblading on the weekends. Maybe I'll check-out Play It Again Sports next time I'm in the area.

I used to rollerblade with the dog previous to the smart one. I also tried it with my moms Collie who thought it was a herding exercise and nipped me a few times.

I feel so 'out of control' on rollerblades. I really should give it a try again but I feel much safer on ice skates. As far as my choice of exercise, it would definitely be walking, although I don't really a have regular schedule or distance.

I do OK on rollerblades except on the downhill sides of steep hills. Everywhere close to where I live where I could skate (or blade) is in the city with kind of steep hills and a fair amount of traffic.

Rollerblading is about the best way possible to break your tailbone! It's fun though.

What's fun - breaking your tailbone?

Walking. To get a good workout, I'll use a treadmill at the gym on campus because it forces me to maintain a fast pace and gets my heart rate up into the cardio zone. I'll also use wrist weights when doing it to get my arms into the act. But real walking outside is much more fun, and I'll do that when I can instead.

(Came in handy for my NY trip - had the stamina to just keep going all day. The last night my friend who is a pilates instructor/fanatic was even having trouble keeping up with me. Total role reversal there from a year ago!)

When I was at my last assignment at my old job I would sometimes have to walk 6 or more miles a day a good portion of that while slinging about 25 pounds of tools and parts. That was great exercise.

So true. Prior to getting running injuries, I would never ride a bike. But when I got injured, I had no choice but to use the bike for physical theraphy. ANd you know what, I'm hooked. I even bought a bike shorts, gloves, even tire pump. I look legit now, lol. And thanks Benelchi for all your advice! I'm still a runner at heart, but I'm cycling more and more lately and enjoying it immensely.

I run every day. I do a cycle which includes push ups and sit ups. I play tennis at least once a week (more often thrice). Other than that, I just try to stay active in general.

I won't even ask. And I'm not laughing. I feel your pain.

I have major cartridge loss in my knees, so I do not do anything at the moment.

Ouch, Nadine! Changing an air filter? I'm picturing that in my head. You must've taken a pretty big tumble. It seems to take a long time for the tailbone to heal too.
