Todays weigh-in......drumroll....3lb 8.25oz!

ERIN!!!

Yippee for Isaac!!!! He is such a good little boy, doing all that growing from YOUR MILK!!! Oh, Erin, you two are going to have me in tears now. Your dedication to your son - it is giving me goosebumps right now...What a team you two are, and with Klay there supporting you all the way. I know he is a huge part in this, too, so the three of you are to be commended. THIS is what family is all about, Erin -- pitching in and doing what you have to do through the hard times. You three are an amazingly STRONG family. Praise God for all that is going on with you! Yay, Isaac! (I am going to stop calling you "little" when you reach 4 pounds but I know that 3 pounds, 10 ounces is right around the corner, buddy!)

Erin, my husband's sister had a baby on 8/28 and she is technically a preemie (by 1 day) so it's mandatory at that hospital she is in the NICU, and she is 6 pounds, 9 ounces! Yeah, that is a HUGE NICU BABY! But the other day when we went up to see her, my SIL, her other SIL, my husband and I went....and while they toddled off to see our new niece, I saw a mother there holding a very small little girl on her lap on a pink boppy pillow.

I thought immediately of YOU, and so I walked over toward her and asked her about her baby. She points at TWO bassinets and says "I had twins. A boy and a girl, at 32 weeks. That was 3 weeks ago."

So THINKING OF YOU, I made sure to tell her congratulations, and didn't her little ones look so adorable (they were really adorable). She said that her little son was still in the NICU at less than 4 pounds but his twin sister had been discharged since she was 4 pounds. So every day this mom would come and bring the twin sister to see her brother and to feed the little boy.

So I asked her "How are YOU doing?" and she got really quiet, and she put her head down, and Erin - she was choking back tears -- and she said "Well, I come here with her and feed him, then when we go home I have a 2-year-old that needs my attention so I pass her off to my mom to play with my 2-year-old. I don't know what sleep is anymore."

Anyhow, there was nothing I could really do for this woman but she about snapped my heart in half with her story. The coming and going, and she is most likely closer to the hospital than you are. And the needs at home. The little one not with you.

I met another mom who was across from my niece. Her little boy is named Henry (which was one of the names I considered for our son as it was my grandfather's name). I made sure to ask how he was doing, but how his mom was doing. She reminded me so much of you. She was quietly rocking him and singing to him when I gently interrupted her. Those parents don't get the 12-visitors-in-the-room-at-a-time like my SIL had (even though the baby was in the NICU).

Anyhow, Erin, I just wanted you to know that you and your family have made a real impact on me and the kind of mother you are to your son, that kind of selfless giving, that kind of tearing-yourself-away-from-him-and-leaving-him-there-so-he-can-get-bigger-and-come-home.....THAT is an inspiration to all of us to do not what is best for US, but what is best for THE CHILD.

I just wanted you to know there are other moms out there sharing their hearts like you are.

I hope you are having a great weekend with your almost 3 pounds, 10 ounce little man.

Love,
Jeanie

AMEN, Jeanie!
As usual, you are so right.

Erin- you guys are doing amazing. What you are doing is exactly what being a loving mom is about. The circumstances stink, but how you are dealing with it is amazing.

Jeanie strikes again...I am NOT joking...he is 3lb 10.1oz!!!! 17inches long.

The nurse tonight said he might get to try a bottle "in a few days". She said 34 weeks is the magic number and that is next Tuesday.

He had some more apneas and Heart rate drops but they arent concerned and it really shouldnt affect his coming home time, they may just send him home on caffeine and a monitor...that I can handle.

Oh, (I dont think I posted this...my days are running together) we gave him a bath last night. He LOVES his bath, hates lotion time since he hates being rubbed, but he adored his bath and had a goofy happy grin through the whole thing.

YAY ISAAC!!!!!! GO BABY GO!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Lord for all you do. You are so good! Just wanted you to know Erin we're still praying for you. I keep praying about the apnea issue but it's not nearly the issue now that it was when I had mine & we won't talk about how long ago that was.

They discontinued two of his meds today. So all he is on is caffeine for apnea issues.

34mls of milk.

Yay!!!! What meds did they take him off of? He's gaining weight so quickly! My goodness! I can't wait till you tell us that he is using a bottle and doing more like that on his own! The bath pictures are cute. And the video is cute too! I was going to leave a comment, but the video disappeared for me. Anyways, it was nice to see him finally get a bath and enjoy it too.

He had gotten a bath before, just the first for us to give it.

They took him off Nystatin and Phenabarb. The Nystatin was to prevent fungal infection and stuff in his mouth when he had all the 'stuff' in there (tubes etc.). The Phenabarb was for jaundice and liver function as well as digestive help. As far as a bottle goes...just talked to the nurse, she tried one and he looked at her like she was a crazy lady...the sucking reflex just isnt there yet.

He must like having all those tubes gone. He pulled at them a lot hey? Wow! So his liver is working fine and he is digesting well. That's great! LOL maybe she is crazy He'll figure it out in due time. At least the nurses are trying to see what point he's at.

How was work today? Have you been busy with crazy people claims lately? Some of your stories that you've told me crack me up. People sure can be... not smart. How's Klay doing with his work? How are your animals doing? Is that enough questions for you for tonight?

I"m coping well...today. I am getting more and more anxious for him to come home though, the better he gets the more ready I get!!

Work was good today...not too many "crazies". Animals are kind of freaking out at all this, poor Zoey spends the night at Granny's when we are gone, she misses us, but enjoys it too. The cats...they prefer to be left alone, but always sleep in our bed the first night we are back. Klays work is okay, hes been getting behind, but doing alot of stuff remotely and taking calls on the road. Umm..you can ask more questions if you want.

Tonights weight......

3lb 12oz!!!!

Edited due to typo in weight...boy and I tired...

Wow, Erin -- he is getting so good at gaining -- that is awesome! Can you really see the difference? I mean, he is almost a whole pound bigger than his birth weight, at 5 weeks old -- what a champ!

Isaac, you are my hero, little buddy!

Didn't you say you were doing non-nutrative nursing? Maybe he wasn't interested in the bottle. Maybe he's holding out for the real thing? Just look at how big and strong he's getting!

Thats what the nurse suggested, that maybe he will just be a good nurser. We'll go back down there today and maybe he will show off for her!
