If "who is" is not the root of Yah, then we are talking about some ones big guess. I would like to see a translation of "Yah" from you, and not some big guess.

I'm sorry but I do not see the words "He who" in "Yah."

That's easy to explain:

1) Yah is not the root!

2) You have never studied the langauge and haven't a clue about its structure or grammar.

3) You have demonstrated in this thread the fact that you can't even distinguish the difference between letters of the Hebrew alphabet.

4) You consistently ignore the opinion of those who are considered experts in the field of biblical Hebrew, like Brown, Driver, and Briggs despite the fact that their books still are considered standard reference works for all Biblical Hebrew students. S.R. Drivers book on Hebrew verb tenses remains the definitive reference on Hebrew verbs in English today.

Yes, I have no difficulty, given the above facts, believing that you "can't see" it! Given the facts above I would be far more surprised if you did see it!

Some Biblical theophoric names end in -ia(h) or -yahu as shortened forms of YHWH: that points to the vowels being "a".

Yahwah is God's personal name. At least with my explanation it can be confirmed by scripture.

That was cool.
Might be better if I could "read" the lyrics. LOL.

Ha-ha, Misha, my heart, May God give you long days. Its a good morning for some laughs, thanks! No wonder I like you, you evidently are even smarter then I originally thought . Yes, the beauty of this thread is in its hilarity, just as I suspected back a dozen pages ago.

It’s nice example of how , as one colonel I had a privilege to serve under used to say "Once a person becomes a victim of a maniac idea he will quickly build a strong, logical and iron clad proof system of convincing and virtually indestructible arguments supporting it"

quote:

Aramaic is virtually irrelevant (It is also virtually the same as Hebrew...but that's a different topic).

Enough difference in it to keep annoying scholars (and persons of similar mindset/mental disposition) busy! "lama azavteni" or "lama savavhvani" is same ot all sane people but can be easily turned into major controversy if one has enough free time on his hands.

What Michael is doing here is precisely the method many strange ideas in modern academia find their way to the surface. His idea may be too grotesque to have more adherents then him, but the principle of pushing it is the same.. They ignore the amount of evidence and keep presurring until some mag publishes it.Then despite its absurdity any idea can find support, if small. It's an interesting character watch here...
Nothing new under the sun.I am exceptionally liberal and think everbody whould be given the right to entertain any idea. As long as its not pushed on others.

quote:

mis-identification of the letter "hey" and the letter "het".

a known problem, isnt it? :) A few people I personally know don't see the difference b/n aleph and ayin when spelling osher. And mightily surprised at the suggestion that happiness and wealth are not necessarily synonymous

I know, Carl :) I often catch myself doing the same , that's what scary

quote:

Elohiyms???
Do you realize that Elohim is ALREADY a plural? That is like saying a herd of sheeps. The --im ending indicates plural.

as time goes by I learn to pretend not to notice the abuse seems like brit milahs, bar mitzvahs, and similar stuff is common. Unfortunately as Ben mentioned , many messianics and christian's clearly demonstrated unwillinnes to learn the structure and grammar of the language coped with desire to use it anyway creates some weird words..

As policeman stopped me once for driving violations "Miss do you like to drive? Then WHY dont you learn how?

Also some confuse 2 languages - most hebrew words that actually made their way into English seem to be yiddish, the good old mameloshn :) My sister sings with a couple of friends some absolutely beautiful Tehilim ( what's the english word? Spirituals?) and for the fun of it we tried to translate them in Yiddish a few years ago. Hilarious!! Ben you"ll especially get a kick out it. I go home for winter break , if i find promise to post em :)David Psalms in Yiddish

Apologetix is such an awesome band. haha

Here's the lyrics to YHWH. http://www.lyricsdepot.com/apologetix/yhwh.html

Some of their songs are semi-silly like this one. Some of their songs, like "Look Yourself" are so incredibly touching ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOe3vDKeBvw ) it gives me chills every time I hear it. But in general they're a great Christian band parodying popular secular songs with one of the best overtly Christian and evangelistic messages out there, and they actually put in verse references every time they can cram it in.

Sorry to get a bit off topic there. I just really like Apologetix. ;)

On topic... despite the frustration, at least know that some of us are learning a little about ancient Hebrew thanks to your excellent tutelage benelchi. ;)

Thanks so much for the links.
I'm one of those old geezers that has ears that cannot hear the modern songs. LOL.

NoW give me Hank Williams, Eddie Arnold, Patsy Cline, etc. lol.
I hear and feel every word. Or an old-fashioned quartet singing hymns. lol.

And ditto to benelchi.
I've learned a very meager bit of Hebrew and Greek
and benelchi has helped me immensely understanding those words.

I still need help understanding the English I do use.
Most english speakers don't even know the laws of grammar it has.
And we "think" we know a foreign language? haha.

I have told you what YHVH means; here is one time from many hundreds of posts ago in this same thread. The following is what I said (complete with references):

"Under this listing for YHVH in "The brown-Driver-Brings Hebrew and English Lexicon it states that HVH in the Qal form is HYH, and that YHVH is the nominal form and means "He who will be". It is Strong's numbers 3068-69 and is connected with 1961 HYH (the verb 'to be')"

Scripture backs up that understanding of God's name:

Revelation 1:4
John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace, from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne,

Revelation 4:8
And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within; and day and night they do not cease to say, "HOLY, HOLY, HOLY is THE LORD GOD, THE ALMIGHTY, WHO WAS AND WHO IS AND WHO IS TO COME."

It's pretty simple. God says of Himself, "I AM". So creation says of God that "HE IS".

Psalm64:4 Sing to God, sing praise to his name, extol him who rides on the clouds his name is the LORD (Yah) and rejoice before him.

NIV ref # 3363 = Yah
Yah = Yh
Ha Yah = H Yh = The Yah
