I would like to see OT changed so that each team gets at least one possession if the first team scores on the first possession that the second has to "play to win", i.e., go for a TD if down by three or go for two if down by seven.

Thats a popular idea but I disagree. Defense is part of the game. If the toss doesn't go your way stop the other team. Or you lose. Its the NFL baby.

College OT is interesting but not for the NFL.

I hate the college OT. It is essentially a contrived scrimmage-type gimmick. It inflates scores. Why not just line up the field goal units and keep kicking field goals until somebody misses.

With my one beef aside, sudden death is the only OT that is real football.

Might as well start the discussion with Week 3.

As a Steeler fan, I was incredibly frustrated watching Ben Roethlisberger become a human punching bag against Philadelphia, and if I was Coach Tomlin, I would make it quite clear that I was not impressed with the performance of the offensive line.

They didn't allow him any time to get off a good pass. I just checked the Steelers website and they will be keeping three injured players on the bench: Willie Parker, Brett Keisel and Casey Hampton. Parker's replacement is a rookie named Rashard Mendenhall. Let's see what next week brings but I bet the Ravens are smelling blood!

At least Rothlisberger is still going to play and is supposed to be uninjured. But hopefully his line will hold longer than last week!

While I'm proud of the Cowboy victory over the Packers, I still believe ou weak link on the offens is at QB.
Romo is good, but he is the weak link on the offense.

And that secondary? Well it gets the job done.

I was impressed with Romo in certain plays during the GB game but then he does some really lame rookie QB stuff. He'd be #1 in stats if he had a little more discipline. His offensive line gives him plenty of time to throw the ball but he sometimes favors certain receivers too much at the expense of making a play.

One thing though Rodgers is no Favre. Of course, this year, Favre isn't Favre either!

Barber and Witten have been phenomenol. Barber reminds me of Larry Csonka the way he runs the ball. I wouldn't want to get in his way. Witten is another player who's smart and strong - he's hard to bring down.

OK boys and girls here's my progs for week 4 whether you want them or not!

Was 9-6 on last weeks picks. Made two picks based more on the emotional attachment to a team rather than the gut (Colts and Steelers). And who could see Miami coming and trouncing the Pats! I was glad I picked wrong on that one!

OK now I'll shut up and deliver the goods!

Atlanta over Carolina
Bengals over Browns
Jaguars over Texans
Denver over KC
Niners over Saints
Cardinals over Jets
Bucs over Green Bay
Titans over Vikings
Charger over Raiders
Buffalo over Lambs
Skins over Cowboys (Could only happen on the football field! This may be the best game of the week)
Eagles over Bears
Steelers over Ravens (This is the only emotional pick I'll ever allow myself! My gut says Ravens, though.)

NoShow, my three locks are Denver over KC, Buffalo over Rams, and Eagles over Bears (although the Bears may not go down so easy!) Sorry for not responding to your earlier post but by the time I read it, Sunday was history!

I love Barber's style, but one can't help wonder about durability, with that type of style.

Witten. I never thought I'd see a Cowboy TE that was better than Novacek.

I give Barber another 4 years. He'll slowdown for a couple of seasons after that and then retire. An Eddie George type career.
Witten is the best TE we've ever had. And we've had,Ditka,Dupree,Novacek, and oh yes the Jackie Smith drop in the endzone.

I,ve always been kind of a Chiefs fan. They are the original Dallas team.
Will they be good anytime soon? I miss those rival games with Oakland.
And they still have one of the best uniforms in pro football.

My vote is for the Bengals having the worst. Never warmed up to the bright orange - the natural color of Bengals in the wild! Cleveland Browns have the most mundane uniform. If it wasn't for the bright yellow Green Bay would also get that vote.

The coolest team logos are the Bucs and the Eagles. As far as team colors go I am very partial for Black and Gold for the obvious reason. Go Steelers!

I used to think the same way about the Packer yellow. But after watching them in HD it isn't that bad of a uniform.

Zack Thomas has helped the Cowboy defense alot(they need more). He is a great teacher for the younger guys.

Go Cowboys! Go Texans!

And the big stories this week:

The Giants suspended Plaxico for two weeks due to insubordination.

And of course something that actually DID catch me by surprise yesterday...

The Lions finally fired Matt Millen.

Adrian Peterson in Minn, seems to fit into that mold too.

My Thoughts On A Few Games That Were Played Last Sunday:
Seahawks-Giants: The Hawks looked like the Hawks that we all expected them to be this year.
Niners-Lions: Another Nice Win For My Boys. Should be interesting to see how they play against the Saints

Really happy that Matt Millen got fired by the Lions. It won't change anything for this season or any season in the near future, but at least there is hope for the future.

What a surprise!!! Didn't they always have those striped helmets? Although, if I recall, the orange was not quite so bright. I feel if they turned off the stadium lights they would glow in the dark. As a player, I'd be embarrassed to wear the uniform. I'd feel I looked more like a school crossing guard or highway maintenance worker.

The striped helmet debuted in 1981 (the season the Bengals went to their first Super Bowl). Before that, it was just orange with the word "Bengals" on the side.

I can't believe the Cowboys quit running the ball!
Good Grief!

But it definately makes the NFC east more interesting.

Boy did I choke on last weeks progs! 6-6 for this week. Hoping the Steelers will put me at one win over 0.500! Sorry NoShow my lock picks were 1-2. I hope you didn't have any money riding on it!

What a week for Brett Favre. Maybe those Titans uniforms they were wearing did the trick! Racking up the yardage by QB's was no recipe for victory. 4 out of the 5 passing leaders this week lost! Brees (#2) was the only QB to be in the top 5 and still win.

The Washington-Dallas game was a nailbiter. It wasn't until the final 2:00 the game was decided by the failed onside kick by Dallas. That and the Jaguars-Texans game were the closest games of the week.

The Eagles showed their ineptitude again. The WR's couldn't hang on to a pass if their lives depended on it. McNabb continues to shine one week and look like one of the worst QB's the next. DeSean needs a good talking to, I don't think he's living up to his hype.

San Diego and Buffalo fortunately woke up late in their games. These two teams are too good to fall to the lowly Raiders and Rams.

Mr. Rodgers neighborhood needs some renovation along with the man's sholder! What a difference one year and one man makes it seems!

Thinking that switching QBs would solve their problem(s), showed an obvious lack of ability to see what was wrong.

I picked Denver on my own first, than checked it against your list for "reassurance". Got knocked out of our One-And-Done Elimination pool, along with half of the other survivors. It's cool.

I think I was trying to be a contrarian picking San Fran and Arizona to win. (20/20 Hindsight)

It still amazing that 4 out of the 5 top passers of the week (and of the season) still lost their games! I guess running the ball or in the case of TB's Bryant (who had just lost his 3 month old son to SIDS last week ) kicking of field goals (special teams) made the difference this week! The Jets game was the sole exception!

Arizona's defense needs to keep the other teams from scoring. To rack up 35 points and not win is demoralizing.

KC was the biggest surprise because Denver has been playing consistently well. Oh well, even the worst teams win some sometime!
