Um, could we please stop bashing public schools? Yah, I know SOME schools are not performing, etc. But not all. The "we're better than them" attitude does not win friends.

GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why must ds2 do this?!?!?!?!?!?! He's been doing so well. Well, he didn't do geography this week. It's boring. Well, dude, you ARE in high school this year. There are some requirements... Then, the knucklehead was out on his bike without a helmet. Well, yah?! What 'cha gonna do about it? Um that paintball party you wanted???

SORRY! Should have added "in my opinion". I know there are good and bad. But I feel that they do not have accountability to anyone other than themselves, and that does not seems to work for anything. Of course, they could say that same about homeschoolers. Did not mean to offend!!
I definitely do not think that I am "better than". I went through the PS system and so did my kids for a bunch of years. We had a great experience for most of it. But I had a friend whose son was kicked around and picked on, etc, while the school sat back and did nothing, even when it was pointed out. That is what I mean by accountability.

On his lunch break, I took Nate to open a savings account. The cookie jar was just not gonna cut it any longer, lol. Anyway, I took him to the credit union where I had a savings account when I was a kid, and where Brandon has his. It's a neat place. Exept today they were hopping, with press even, and I think I was caught on film

Seems that some aspiring felon has developed a system whereby he/she/they use a computerized random-calling machine to call every number in the area (multiple times--combined Nate and I have had five or six calls) claiming that 'your card from such-and-so credit union has been deactivated' and asking you for all sorts of information that they can then use to wreak havoc. There is nothing the credit union can do, because their systems were not compromised. So they are trying to get the word out to everyone to hang up.

Uh, my neighbors with kids in public school are just as upset about the shooting as I am. In fact, they are more concerned with the state of affairs of our education system in our city. It is pretty much in every issue of every paper. There is nothing "we're better than them" in my attitude! I want ALL kids safe!

I hear ya, Jen . . . sometimes it's better not to know.

The chiropractor thinks some of Brandon's problem - most likely not all, but some - may be nutritional. He put him on fatty acid and vitamin supplements, adjusted a couple of spots, and wants to give it a couple of weeks to see if it makes any difference. I am all for that - the supplements certainly won't hurt anything, and we will all be thrilled if it turns out to be that simple.

He was also not happy with the state of my neck and thinks the accident last week - you know, the one where I didn't get hurt - has made a couple of things worse. We talked about just how much driving a stick shift aggravates tendinits (a lot!) and now I get to ice my elbow 3 times a day seeing as how my arm's been killing me since Wednesday. He still contends that I am salvagable but wonders if I'll ever learn (conclusion, probably not). He did allow as to how stick shifts are much more fun to drive so really didn't blame me.

My dh has the hedge trimmers. I am frightened. He will wack down everything in sight if he's not supervised.

Why can't you audition, Jenn? Sorry if I really should know already. Things are kind of crazy around here.

shadow--not arguing that the shooting was a terrible thing. However, it's happened before where we (me included) have gotten to really bashing PS--how they are not performing, etc. It is not ALL schools that are under-performing/have violence and or bullying issues/etc. We are all responsible for educating our own kids. If God is leading some to PS their kids, then so be it.

So my first home school Co-op meeting went well. I was so nervous but I don't think I did anything to make myself look stupid. I didn't even eat so I wouldn't make a mess. I already knew most of the mom's from church so maybe that helped some.

Sorry his. Not trying to bash public schools at all. I don't think that we are better than them. The one in Kansas that my grandson went to did something right. The boy was going into the third grade and could read at the 6th grade level.
It's the ones that attack homeschoolers but have a hard time making AYP that really irritate me.

Cindy, if we rent the house we saw today, you can send him up here. He can help my dh clear the land!!! On second thought, we can wait till the soybeans are harvested!! OK, just kidding.

We found a house on 5 acres with a barn. We are going to meet the man there on Sunday. It doesn't look like anyone has lived there in awhile because the lawn is very overgrown. The house looks OK from the outside. Pray about this OK? If we get it, I will need to borrow a tractor and bush hog from somewhere.
Gotta go, it's getting foggy and I have to drive back home.

Glad Co-op went well Sou-

Sorry to hear about the shooting-

I am finally getting a good idea for my first photo project for my college class. It is a color and composition thing and "Creative Presentation" is a big chunk of the project.

I am going to *ahem* sew photos to some brown fabric... The photos have to be "labeled". My Labels are going to be Dogtags. can you guess what the theme of the project is going to be?

Hint: He is 6' tall, bald, and leaving for Iraq on Wednesday.

I have the ideas for all but 5 or 6 photos down on paper and about 6-7 already in the can. I have a few that will actually have Jerry in them in some manner two that are gonna be hard to shoot without getting misty.

I have a partial map HERE... What I have left is Informal balance, use of lines and shapes, Use of cool colors, appealing use of colors, use of related colors, and use of psychological reference color.

These need to be closer to the mid/end of the progression from him going and coming back. I also have some charms to attach to several of the images as well- like faith, hope, love, trust, some crystal teardrops and the like. I plan to attach all this to the thing with/through metal eyelets(dritz makes a eyelet setter that is not too pricey and I have already tried the scrapbooking eyelets.) I have some earth tone colored hemp to do the attaching. I am thinking about doing a PVC stand for it too.

Donna, thanks for sharing the pix!

You look so beautiful holding Esther. And thanks for sharing the rest of your photos. It is sobering to see Brian in a wheelchair. May God continue to strengthen and heal him.

Hubby just got into town. We went outside to discuss our weekend projects.
When I came in, I realized how late it is, and I said to kids, "hey, guys, it is almost midnight, we need to wrap it up pretty quickly" (they are playing star wars game on game cube).

Daughter turns to me and says, "Whoa, why are your guys up so late?"

It was hilarious. Totally deadpan face. What a nut!

But seriously kids, time for bed!

Any projection as to how long he will be using it? I had not heard anything and was just wondering.

Praying for a smooth transition to home!

Donna, those were great pics of Esther and your other children. They sure grow up fast!!!!
I looked at Brian's accident pictures, too..... wow!!!! How is he doing? How long will he be in the wheel chair? I never kept up with everything, do they think he will fully recover? God REALLY had His hand of protection on him!

Have you noticed that kids clothes get bigger as they grow and then the clothes take up more room! MM's clothes no longer fit in her drawers. She has a captain's bed with drawers under it. The drawers are not very deep. I have a bunch of laundry and no place to put it. I'm having the same problem with Mr. Manly's clothes. I've been looking for a solution and prayer about it, as I don't have much money to work with on this. Yesterday I found a terrific closet organizer at Costco for $30. This will completely solve MM's clothes problem, but I think I'll have to wait until next payday to get one for Mr. Manly.

I have been frustrated with the laundry being out of control and no place to put it. Dh is working on putting it together right now, so I should have the laundry out of my room by the end of the day. Thank goodness.

Yes! And in winter, they take up more room than in summer.

Actually, we are going to have to do the go-through-the-clothes thing shortly and that is not Nate's favorite activity, lol.

Yes, I have noticed this. Also, summer clothes don't take up as much room as winter clothes. My girls' clothes just barely fit in their drawers in the summer...especially if they aren't all clean. In the winter they don't come close to fitting. I picked up two more dressers at a yard sale this summer so their winter clothes will all fit.

I am butting heads with Nate this morning.
I sent him to brush his teeth and he said, 'why, am I going to the dentist?'
I sent him to turn off the A/C and he followed the cat downstairs and never came back up, completely bypassing the A/C.
I wanted him to finish watching his Mammals DVD so we could send it and he said, 'I don't want to watch TV!'....of course, if I had not wanted him to watch something I am sure he'd have wanted to.
All he can think about his going shooting, and I am already tired of hearing about his new BB gun.

He also doesn't want to go to the music fest.

So, I think it's going to be buckle-down day for chores and schoolwork. Part of his problem, I am sure, is that he's been working so many hours (30 this week) that he has this thought that it's a 3-day weekend and he should be goofing off, and I am looking at it as 'finally he is home and we can get some things taken care of'.

I don't think we know how long Brian will be in a wheelchair. Because of his elbow fracture, he can't use crutches. So it may be until his leg is strong enough to walk on, and even then, we may need the chair for any length of travel, KWIM? I really have no idea, so I'm trying not to speculate.

Beautiful Avatar Donna,

How are you and Brian coping with all this? I'm sure after just having a baby this has all been trying times. You are all in my prayers.

I just went to garage sales looking for clothes for my teen. Oh my goodness... the name brand clothes at yard sales were 3-4 dollars each!!!! I bought some, about half fit. I have no idea what size she is!! Some things are too "fat" and then some of the styles are too tight that I don't want her wearing them. It is reall hard to find clothes for her, especially when ya throw in her pickiness. At least we found some things!!

I have the same problem with clothes. Especially this time of year, when I start having both seasons out because the nights and mornings are cool, but afternoons is still in the upper 80's!
