Do you think if the USA makes it to the World Cup Finals that more people will come on board?

not sure ... probably gain some more fans ... what does on board mean? ... tournaments like the world cup and olympics are a bit different because american's interest seems tied to the team's performance in a nationalistic/patriotic sort of way ... after the tournament, there's also only so much time and so much competition in the sports market to become more than a casual soccer fan would mean spending less time watching teams in other sports you've watched for years ...

if some people like soccer, that's great and i hope it bring them enjoyment. if some people like baseball (law & order, sewing, rock climbing, insert any hobby), that's great too and i hope it brings them enjoyment. i don't see it's a big deal of having one sport or hobby have more fans than another ... it doesn't make one hobby superior, just different ...

I agree but I can appreciate a sport even though I can't stand watching it. I can appreciate the skill of Tiger Woods while thinking that golf is boring. I can appreciate the skill of a pitcher and hitter while also not caring for the sport. All sports require skill and some sort of athletic ability on different levels but some people can't appreciate skills in sports they don't like.

By "on board" I mean will it create more fans of the sport because no one can doubt what the proper exposure of a sport can do for its popularity. Gretzky did it for hockey even though the LA Kings previously had a high scorer in Marcel Dionne. Look what Phelps has done for the popularity of swimming! What the likes of Mary Lou Retton, and recently Lukin and Johnson, et al has done for women's gymnastics.

Those who cannot do will criticize.

Those who are most vocal about their disdain for soccer are those who most likely not that great at playing soccer.

I see the same thing with skiers. They grumble about how much of a waste of time it is to slide down a hill with stick on your feet - until they actually try it, get a few lessons, and realize how fun and enjoyable it is.

Probably because the entire game consists of:

Run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, SCOOOOOORRRRRRE!!!!!!!!, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around, run around.

1-nill Exciting

Kidding of course. We just don't have a soccer tradition. Professional sports are as much about personalities as anything else. Imagine NASCAR if no one knew the drivers. What a snorefest.
