Just wondering what some of your favorite "indie" Christian artists are....

(For those of you who don't know what I mean by this...basically Christian artists who don't have one of those huge record deals, but are amazing anyways!)

Mine is a band called Cloudchase. They were featured on Total Axxess in the "Rock What You Got" competition. They didn't win, but I love their stuff anyways.

You can find out more about them on their myspace at myspace.com/cloudchase.

Any other bands we should know about?!?!

Not bands, but a couple of fabulous singer/songwriters: Jill Phillips and Kendall Payne.

Sufjan Stevens and mewithoutYou. They have record deals, heh, but they are not huge by any stretch of the imagination.
Sufjan's music is some of the most original I've heard in awhile. He uses more instruments than most anyone I know, and if I remember correctly, plays them all himself.
mewithoutYou is more spoken-word punk, but they are one of the more honest Christian bands I've listened to in a long, long time. Their newest album, Brother Sister, is probably the most accessible of their works.

One of my favorite things to do is find indie Christian artists that make good music. Thanks to 7Ball Magazine (RIP?), I found a couple of really good bands several years ago: Edmund's Crown, Red Shoed Star, and Big Methuselah. I would VERY interested to hear about good indie bands from anywhere...USA or internationally.

Phil Keaggy - Sparrow dumped him a few years ago as being "uncommercial."

As the person before me said, Danielson. Half-Handed Cloud is good too.

I would add Anathallo. I really don't know why they haven't been given any credit in the Christian world, they're quite amazing.
