This is just for fun ... although scripture does say ...

(Rom 16:16) Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.

(1Co 16:20) All the brethren greet you. Greet ye one another with an holy kiss.

(2Co 13:12) Greet one another with an holy kiss.

So ...

have you ever? ... or is it too scary?

The question is, what is a Holy kiss? lol! I suppose it means that it is a greeting done in Christlike love.

The only Holy Kiss that I will be most aware of is the one I make at the alter.

I remember seeing a skit put on by a singles group where one of the characters in the play was a guy who attempted to plant on every girl he met in church a "holy kiss." It was a very funny skit.

I kiss some of my close friends. Most of the time its just on the cheek. It really depends on who it is though.

Why didn't I think to do a biblical study on kissing.

I think nationality plays a big role. We are Italian and we not only greet everyone with a kiss (mostly on the cheek) we send them away that way too. Family reunions a really just a kissathon. You greet everyone with a kiss, you eat (of course) and then send everyone away with a kiss. It can get interesting, but never scary.

I love those scriptures.

A long while ago I started attending a certain church. I went to that church specifically because God told me to go there. Every week I'd beg Him, "Please let me go somewhere else!" And He'd reply "no".

After seven weeks of almost no one (the pastor's wife talked to me once) talking to me (The pastor never even greeted us) I had had enough.

So I started moving around and shaking hands. Those who attending teh GT know how I greet everyone in the church. Well I did that there too.

Those people thought I was insane. They'd never seen anyting like it before (Pretty sad hey?)

By the time I got half way through the church I had a group of 7 or 8 following me and wondering what will happen next. Weeks later I had some tell me they were blessed by it and others tell me they were seriously offended.

I continued this week in and week out until one day the sound man (a gentleman by the name of Ray who always shook hands very reluctantly) asked me why I shook everyone's hand every service.

I said "The bible tells us to greet one another with a holy kiss! Which would you prefer?"

From that day on Ray always extended his hand quickly when I got around to his area!!!

I've been too hung up on Songs of Solomon to reach those verses.

HAHA, I'm laughing. Not even kidding.
Imagine me just walking on the sidewalk, saw a person and kissed them.
And say, "That's a holy kiss." and wink at them.
hahahaha.

How would someone be offended I guess I too used to a church were we greet each other.

She told me later that she KNEW they were supposed to be doing what I was doing and the fact that I as a visitor was doing it was like rubbing their noses in their sin. I didn't intend to offend or to confront, I was just greeting the people.

As time went on I learned that they just didn't know how to do it. I'd hold my hand out to shake someone's hand and they'd give me the deer in the headlights look ("what do you want from me?"). I should point out that they didn't even greet each other. The church was visitor hostile.

Over the course of a few months they learned and started greeting each other and visitors. It became a very friendly church, both with and without the walls.

So I was able to see why I was sent to the particular church. Which was a huge blessing to me after the first seven weeks of isolation.

I never did get to give anyone there a "holy kiss" though. Although Ray still is aware of that as whenever I see him about town he still extends his hand quickly

Ooooh.....where's my chapstick?

When I was working at Disney I met a coworker who was French (I was only semi-aware that he was french), and he looked like he was stretching his neck to see my nametag or something. I kind of looked at him quizzically and he said "Do you not know?" and explained that in France they greeted with a kiss on each cheek. DUH. Kind of awkward for this American girl but okay.

I have enough trouble accepting hugs. Please do not put your lips on me.

Family is one thing. But, unfortunately, there are a lot of gropers and grabbers in churches. I've become a very "hands off" kind of person.

True - thankfully mine isn't really like that - we "greet" with handshakes and an occasional hug, nothing more.

The church I go to now isn't like that either. But I've been in some that were and have become a big fan of the simple smile and handshake.
