If you walk to the date because you recently totaled mom and dad's car - and require a sponge bath in the bathroom to be presentable because it is 105 outside ...

Don't show up late and make your date wait while you do so. The first impression is already gone anyways.

Well, I'm not sure why you can't believe it, but thanks for giving me the cyber-hug!

It's funny, I have been thinking about my Mom a lot lately. Not sure why, it's not near her Bday, or when she died or anything. It hasn't necessarily been sad thinking about her, I often smile or laugh when I do- because she was a fun person! Anyway, it's just a bit strange that I have been thinking of her more than usual.

I know now mostly when I think of my dad I smile..........

First date tip..........

Avoid places those sweet old ladies from church might be...........unless you want others in church to give you that secret knowling wink the following Sunday.

Here's a somewhat serious one.

If you tend to be a nostalgic sort of person, DO NOT reserve special places that you and the ex used to go to. That is, never tell your date "We can't go there, that was my and x's favorite place"

I dated a woman (long long ago) who was like that. I think we only had about three restaurants in Milwaukee to choose from. If I wasn't so young and foolish at the time I would have recognized it for the trouble it was going to be.

Another tip........though not just for first dates.............remember it was the person which made the place special not the location..........don't let past memories keep you from making new ones at a place you love going.

On a first date, don't comb your hair at the table. If your date is at a museum, don't use the glass over the photos as a mirror to comb your hair. Also, don't eat with your mouth open, especially if you happen to have a mouth full of guacamole and sour cream.

Obvious, I know, but these do come from personal experience.

I have a great tip:

If you are somewhat of a local celebrity in your tiny church, don't make church your first date destination even though it's a safe venue. People will get sore elbows and eyes from the jabbing and winking.

And you may just scare the man off. So, despite having a fantastic first date, he'll never date you again.

True story.

here's another tip i found:
Be positive. Don’t complain on your date. Nobody wants to hear how miserable you are. A poor attitude can destroy a date faster than anything.

i agree, not that you need to be fake, but if you are miserable or really down about something, why would anyone want to join you in your misery?

Because misery loves company?

True but would you want to be misery's company? In a romantic setting? (Friends are a completely different ballgame)

I laugh in the face of misery...HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

*giggle*

I am seriously non sympathetic so if a guy were to whine to me on our first date I'd tell him to pull up his big girl panties and get over it.

And can you believe I'm still single!?!?!?!?

True! I understand. Plus if its our first date, I wouldn't feel comfortable to complain.

Right. We all need to reach out to friends at times for help. But unloading on someone you just met? Not cool. Plus if you're just wallowing in misery, maybe dating is not such a great idea to begin with, because you won't have a lot to give the other person. You would likely be way too focused on just receiving, and that's not a healthy way to start a relationship. (Or conduct one.)
