If you had your way, whom would you draft as a presidential candidate and VP for the 2008 elections? Why are they qualified (i.e. foreign policy or economic expertise, etc).

Would your candidate get elected?

Take a look at your avatar And for VP; his little yellow friend!

Why, he's too cool for school!

Would he get elected, in a heartbeat!

I think J.C. Watts would be a great candidate - mostly because he doesn't want it. It would also be interesting to hear whatever racial insults he would get from the left.

I usually do agree with you Dubya, but on this I really do.

Thanks

Thanks RC!

I just like JC Watts. He has a genuine love for God and people and he is well versed in Washington politics. Like the OP says, "If only..."

I love this question! Thanks for posting this!

I'd draft Ron Paul and Colin Powell. I'm a Democrat, but that's because I'm usually picking the lesser of two evils (Although since this election isn't quite like that, I'm having serious trouble deciding between McCain and Obama and may go for McCain if he can reduce the deficit while avoiding a war with Iran.)

In this case, Colin Powell is perhaps one of the wisest foreign policy experts that I am aware of. He's an excellent listener and is humble enough to admit when he's wrong and change course as the facts on the ground (not the opinion polls) change. Ron Paul would be an excellent complement because he'd be focused on trying to get the deficit under control by reducing the scope of the federal government and implementing a consumption tax.

Sadly, the vast majority of people who would make an excellent president are wise enough to not want the job!

I echo the choice of J.C. Watts. Experience in Congress, Conservative. And for a TV generation, telegenic.

I'm not familiar with Watts...I'll have to check him out.

I was on board for Huckabee. Very disappointed that he didn't work out. Maybe he'll be VP! (I wish)

I also like Newt Gingrich, even though I doubt he's a Christian. I know that's not going to go over well!

In my entire political life since I've been voting, the only candidate I've every actively campaigned for, and it wasn't all that but I did a little something, was Alan Keyes. I believe that the year he ran (Dole eventually got the nomination) he cleaned everybody's clock in the debates. I found him to be a very intelligent man with sound principles and I'm surprised we don't hear more of him today. People who talk about how articulate Obama is never heard Keyes speak. But in the end, people called him "unelectable." No money poured in. Anyway, I think he would have made a pretty good Commander in Chief.

Usually people like Alan Keyes come to their senses and realize they're not nasty enough for politics! The ones that would really make good presidents are just too decent to get down in the muck and mud. Oh, well...

The fictional Jack Ryan because:

A) He had a lifetime record of absolute integrity in every endeavour.

B) He didn't want the job, fell into it by mischance.

Leonidas, or, in a pinch, Ron Paul. I think it'll take an 8 year Ron Paul-like administration, along with 3-400 Ron Paul acolytes in Congress for this country to ever get turned around.

From my understanding, I think J.C. Watts already made it clear several years ago he never wants to run for president. From most people I've talked to, they say he's to smart to run! I to go along w/ Alan Keyes. I'm just afraid this time around he's been snuffed out too much by the liberal media. He's been in the running all along & the majority of the country doesn't know it. He's running Independent now & has his own website. kd

Hey, don't kill my dream.
I didn't think reality played any part in this thread. Why no comments about Rocky and Bulwinkle or Snoopy and Woodstock or Jack Ryan?

I agree, however, that J.C. Watts has no interest in any elected office now - but it doesn't stop me from dreaming.

Quik trivia question. Who can answer without googling?

What's the connection between Jack Ryan, Barack Obama, and Alan Keyes?

I didn't ask what they have in common. There's a definite connection between the three.

He got my vote... It's a treat to watch a debate with Mr. Keyes...
