Yeah, I see it as a downward spiraling effect.....

If society and culture are becoming less and less God-like..and kids/teens are following society, then they grow up to be bad role models for the next generation. And the loose sexual morals they have, if not repented of, will influence the kids they parent and teach. ...In turn, those children will be more sexually liberal than the parent and then pass those morals onto the subsequent generation. ....It's normal path would be to get worse and worse and worse....without repentance, the sin increases with each generation.

It's scary...I was watching Conan O'Brien on Late Night television and he has that character the Masturbating Bear....and also the Horny Manatee.....that do sexual acts and are appluaded! .....I could not see that stuff on TV just 20 years ago. This is public access national TV! (NBC).....

What will we see in 20 years? Open porn on public TV?

I think it's a product of our MTV culture, which has been Satan's most effective tool, IMO, pathetically bad parenting, and failure of christian leadership to teach morality and decency, especially to young people.

While I don't disagree with what you say, backrowbaptist, I wanted to add a thought. Why is it we always point the blame at external factors. We all have a role in this. Yes, we need to reach the youth. But, to reach the youth, don't we need to reach their parents as well? If we can reach the parents of the youth and convey the message of the gospel we can change the behavior of the parents to model Christ like living. It seems we have this tendency to teach in the same manner as the world, fill heads full of knowledge, yet fail to provide guidance to facilitate head knowledge into the heart.

Yes, I'd agree with that. That's why I listed 'pathetically bad parenting' in my post as one of the causes. It would take strength of conviction from Christians and their leaders to try to reach parents in this way. Do we/they have it?

A major problem is that we talk about 'pathetically bad parenting', but place our children in petre' dishes for 7-8 hrs a day not counting "extracuricullar" activities. Then, we seperate them from their families for "youth group". Finally, on weekly religious gatherings we segragate our families into age groups. The Scriptures tend to indicate the best solution to 'pathetically bad parenting' is to teach our own children diligently and talk to them when they lie down and when they rise up, when they come in and when they go out. We can't expect responsible behavior from our children unless we teach it to them 24/7.

Amen to that! It's unfortunate that the church has adapted the worlds method of teaching. To seperate the parents and the kids and let others do the work of teaching. As parents, we are ultimately responsible for what our kids learn even if we send them to someone else to teach.

i would just like to put in my thoughts on this and a little of my story. someone on the first page mentioned that as children or young adults we learn that pornography is appealing because we are taught that it is...and this is not just limited to pornography...it applies to all sexual immortality. i believe this to be true. for those of us ( like me ) who grew up in a family who is not religious, and who knew nothing of what god deamed as right or wrong...pornography was not a bad thing. i just recently became saved and am now learning to live the right way..i am like a new born baby in this area who needs to learn everything. i am not perfect and i am not ashamed to say there is alot i have to work on...i know god will help me. but my point is until recently i watched pornogrophy myself...and i have had intercourse outside of marriage. i never saw this as such a bad thing before because everyone else around me did it too. this was the norm. for me. now i know better and am ashamed of my life before god...and now i face being called a hippocrite because i have done those things in my past and now refuse to have intercours before marriage...but had i not met someone in my life who talked to me about god and got me to start reading the bible and going to church..i may still be doing these things and be none the wiser. i guess what i am trying to say is alot of women are like i was because they are uneducated in gods law and only know what they see. it is sad but true..now my one wish is to help others who are like i was to see what is really right and wrong.

Yes. It's already becoming a reality.

Ask Sarah Palin, whose daughter got pregnant at the age of 17, when most girls go to the prom and plan to go to college. She is a growing breed of girls who feel that it is all right to have sex before marriage, then face the conseqences. She is not the only one that is doing it because celebrities like Jamie Lynn Spears and Ashlee Simpson are keeping their babies too. While I applaud all three of these women, however, there should have more teaching in the home because in all three situations, something was wrong with their parental teaching, including Palin because apparently the parents are not teaching their young girls enough about the consequences. I'm not saying that they were bad parents, but apperently something went wrong in their teaching.

As a result of Palin's moral failure, it sends a message too that even though the bible says to flee fornication, it will be all right for girls instead of wating for marriage, its ok to have sex, even if you are underage. And then too, it sends a message also that if these girls did it and want a baby, well, they can do it too.

Our churches should be looking out more for our young sisters--and also teach their parents their godly responsiblity as parents, especially those who hold leadership positions.

Gaylel, sometimes, the parent(s) teach all they can, doing what they can to keep the children (not just the girls!!!!) pure, but their generation in the churches, along with their young Sunday school teachers, come along and tear down everything the parent taught them in the context of the church! It happened in my own little family, right under my nose, along with a particular minister who also tore away at the moral fabric I had worked to years to build. When they are getting it at school and at church, along with knowing how many of their friends have had abortions, while being told that the parent(s) are just "old-fashioned," the child is placed on the altar of instability and immorality, no matter what the parent(s) do.

Thank you shell for sharing. It was a great testimony to hear and we are all so glad to have you in God's family!

I think for this initial thread it was meant more as a wake-up call for Christians and Christian culture in modern society, not so much for the unconverted or newly converted.

I also have friends who are unconverted, who have lived in the world like you and sex and pornography were and are the norm. I think they do pause sometimes and ask whether it is really fulfilling (not to mention std safety issues and pregnancy) or if the traditional Christian view of sex is better. ...But with tohse who do not know God and His goodness, it can be hard to see and understand. They only know sex and pornography bring a kind of sensual gratification.

What is scary, though, is when even Christians become involved in that view and lifestyle. ...That is because we do have God and do know His goodness and should know He put rules for sexuality in the Bible for our best interests. But yet, even Christians struggle a lot in this.

It would be great to see Chrisian culture influence society and not the other way around. That is soemthing we need to continue to pray and fight for (whether in our own relationships or in the national media, etc.)

God Bless!
