someone at my church had an infant that looked like a flaming turtle.

he is 22 now, and has not improved much.

ROFL

What do you say to someone who has a "not real pretty" baby?

I mean, people will comment, oh what a pretty baby, so what do you say when that baby is ugly?

Yes they do but you have to tell every parent that their the cutest baby ever :)

They all look kind of funny to me as newborns. When they fill out a little more they look cuter

You can always mention something besides looks or mention one attribute if necessary-

wow, I bet you are glad he's here
You must be so excited to finally have him in your arms
That is just the cutest little dress she is wearing today...
He's got red hair just like his daddy!

Ugly is in the definition- what a parent sees is a product (usually) of love
A cleft palate or lip, a lazy eye, a port wine stain, etc could be considered ugly to some, but very very very seldom to the parents... just food for thought- though yes, some children are harder to look upon than others...

I would never think a physical deformity or birth defect is ugly.

What I'm talking about (and this thread is really just a humorous one ) is when baby inherits the worse of Mom and the worse of Dad.

the flaming turtle was so ugly people just stared and said thing like: is he sleeping well? How much does he weigh? stuff like that.

he was very long, white as a sheet with large spots, and hair the color of a Chinese firecracker. His eyes were big as bottle caps, and his head was shaped like a chihuahua.

I didn't think that is what you meant (birth defects), but I have sadly heard it said- out loud, in public.

The 'worst traits' issue doesn't usually show up in a newborn- they pretty much look alike to me... all wrinkly and red and 'newborny', ya know...

What do you say to someone who has a "not real pretty" baby?

A little girl (who's not little any more) asked me that. She was visiting the new baby of a friend or relative (can't remember which, anymore), and someone flat out asked her "N----, don't you think the baby is cute?, " and she really didn't, so she stammered something like yeah, or uh huh. She asked me what to say the next time, and I said to use words like darling and precious. i.e, she could say, "He sure is precious," which would be true, because in God's sight he is

As far as op, I'm one of those people that tends to think all babies are beautiful..I don't mean because I'm supposed to, I've been that way since I was a kid. In all my 36 years, I have only seen one baby that I did not think was cute(irl, not talking about serious deformities seen on the web).

I also personally believe that even the most gorgeous person has at least one flaw, and no matter how homely, just about every person has one good feature. I always look for the one good feature, not the flaws. Perhaps the baby in bluestone's post had a pretty shade of blue or brown or green eyes.

I really respect the parents of this little girl. While I had to admit she couldn't be called "cute," I noticed she has pretty hair and cute hands.

And I couldn't vote in your poll, because my answer is "I do think all babies are beautiful, but I am not offended by your poll." It's your poll, as far as I care you can do whatever poll floats your boat. And do know I am saying this in fun.

Babies are flawed at birth by sin nature. This same principle applies to the rest of humanity.

Yes, some are ugly, some are not. Each is different in everyone's perspective.

Good point. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, isn't it, Randy?

I put the "offended" in there sort of tongue in cheek, what with all the "offense" threads and such going on lately. :)

But if you boat doesn't float, but you keep your tongue in your cheek, won't you drown?

I used to work at a photography studio and once developed a passport picture for an infant who was definitely appearance-challenged! I was shocked at how ugly this child was: wild, untamed hair that grew in patches on the sides of its head and one eye significantly larger than the other, and its face was blotchy from crying. Although, I have seen some babies whom I wouldn't consider too cute... I know all children are adorable to their parents!

Flaming Turtle??? LOLOLOL

I've seen babies who were gorgeous and yet turned out to not be attractive adults at all. Now, me, on the other hand........

I saw a baby with very long blonde hair, dressed in fine clothes and at first glance, you'd think 'Beautiful'. When you actually LOOKED at her, you saw eyes that drooped at the corners and a mouth downturned which gave a sad appearance, no real chin and badly bucked teeth! The child never smiled, either. She looked just like her daddy. YIKES!

Until a couple of years ago, I had only seen two pretty babies in my life. Both were mine. Since then, I've seen two more pretty babies. Both were my grandkids.

I'm beginning to spot a pattern...

Oh Bill...that's such a cute site. Thanks for shareing it. I had a good laugh. Watched the babies throwing up even! LOL

Have I ever seen an ugly baby...well yes, I guess so.
But I always seem to find something cute in them.
When I look back at my childrens birth pictures, I don't think they were so cute...but I did at the time.
Is'ent there a saying
"Only a mother could love them" LOL
Some have said my grandson Brett (on my avator) is'ent the cutest...but he sure is a sweet baby. All cuddles and smiles for his grandma.

Looking back on my childrens baby pics, I can see how my son resembled a plucked bird.
I am soo thankful he didn't look like a flaming turtle though.

My opinion---God doesn't make ugly babies. Some are cuter than others but that is far as I am willing to go.

Being that his eyes were different sizes, he may have had a mild case of treacher-collins syndrome(a syndrome where you miss some of your facial bones--it is the same thing the little girl I linked to upthread has).

If you watch THIS video and the ones surrounding it, you will begin to see any healthy, normal child as beautiful.

I looked on that site, and I think some of the babies were cute, especially that one little black baby.

I think that site is mean.

Not all babies are cute. It's the truth...I think sometimes it is the way they are delivered. We'll blame that on the Doctors, but I won't comment on that anymore here. Okies?

I've seen ugly babies. My older sister was an ugly baby. She was my Mom's only ugly baby and my Mom has 9 kids.

There those babies where you comment, "oh, you're child is soooooo cute."

(sarcasm)
