rcjames: I guess it might differ in the South; I've been to a church in S. Carolina, but I'm not real familiar with the South actually. We do sing "And he walks with me, and he talks with me" at a senior home sometimes. quote:

Well just had to jump in and list some other verses of Amazing Grace Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me I once was lost but now am found was blind but now I see ... The LORD has promised good to me His word my hope secures He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures And when this flesh and heart shall fail and mortal life shall cease I will possess within the veil a life of joy and peace... of course the last verse is not original of Newton but is more popular . Sorry like the six verses for it is more complete story of believers life. I liked to end my worship session with Amazing Grace. Usually started however with 4 verses version of How Great Thou Art.

sisrev: And I like the last verse of that hymn as well: "And when I think of God, His Son not sparing, Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in, And on the Cross, my burden gladly baring, He bled and died, to take away my sin." Take care. quote:

One of my favorites is Breathe on Me Breath of God--the tenor part sounds almost as good as the melody. Our choir director introduced new hymns as anthems in the evening service, but the only one I remember is Lord, You Have Come to the Lakeshore.

faroukfarouk here are the lyrics to the Grace that is greater. 1. Marvelous grace of our loving Lord, grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt! Yonder on Calvary's mount outpoured, there where the blood of the Lamb was spilt. Refrain: Grace, grace, God's grace, grace that will pardon and cleanse within; grace, grace, God's grace, grace that is greater than all our sin! 2. Sin and despair, like the sea waves cold, threaten the soul with infinite loss; grace that is greater, yes, grace untold, points to the refuge, the mighty cross. (Refrain)

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul. Refrain: It is well with my soul, it is well, it is well with my soul. 4. And, Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll; the trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend, even so, it is well with my soul. (Refrain)

UNTIL THEN ... My heart can sing when I pause to remember A heartache here is but a stepping stone Along a trail that's winding always upward, This troubled world is not my final home. Chorus: But until then my heart will go on singing, Until then with joy I'll carry on, Until the day my eyes behold the city, Until the day God calls me home. The things of earth will dim and lose their value If we recall they're borrowed for awhile; And things of earth that cause the heart to tremble, Remembered there will only bring a smile. (chorus...)

Hymns are so touching for me personally because these songs were produced by men and women who were deeply touched by life's circumstances in such a profound way that they emptied their hearts into melody and created some of the churches most heartfelt songs for God. Because they were inspired by real life events, they ministered to those saints of old and to us today, because we identify with those who have been tested and tried and who have come out of it alive to reach towards the heavens and still believe in a God that is Our God no matter what circumstances bring. Unlike songs of today which are mass produced and capitalized upon and driven by dollars the hymns of old were dear brothers and sisters who weren't thinking of a hypothetical situation, or how many records they were going to sale. They were driven by the character within, who's lives and circumstance produced the song and told stories that were witnesses and living testimonies that went on throughout the ages, kind of like scripture. They proved that a life though troubled, is held up by the master's hand. I am reminded of "my favorite hymn since I was 20 years old. "It Is Well With My Soul". It had special significance for me as I was a newly rededicated christian who made a terrible choice to move in with a pastor's family who took control over my life for three and a half years. I was indoctrinated, and was treated suspiciously and cruelly by their children who viewed me as an outsider. I was acccused of doing things or thinking things which were contrary to my nature. It really hurt during those years. As I endured three and a half years of slavery on a farm, raking two and a half acres of grass every weekend by myself, working 12 hours a day monday through Friday and washing dishes everynight after work for eight people and cleaning a two story house, washing wooden floors by hand and wood trimming with a wash cloth, I felt forgotten and forsaken. Their children laughe and played and went on to college while I was told I needed to know my vocation and then I woudl be alllowed to enroll into college. I had no idea who I was. And I had desires just like their children did to be schooled and to have a career, yet denied even a few classes at the local college. I was charged $200 for rent of a bed that was a bunkbed and had a roomate that was like me, not their child. She would end up running away and turning away from God in anger. As I endured my enslavement, I would hold this song close to my heart and hum it to myself when I went about my weekend tasks of cleaning and raking the lawn. I figured if someone else had suffered sorrow, so I too would endure it. That is my story, but the man who wrote it has an even more sorrowful story. Horatio Spafford was a man of renoun. He was a lawyer here in America in the late 1800's. 100 years before I was born, Haratio lost his four daughter's to drowning as they were struck in a ship that was sailing to Great Britain. When he joined his wife at sea, he instructed the captain to stop where the ship had gone down. And out of that sorrow and suffering one of the greates songs of all time was born. From Hartio's lips came the song that would help me to endure my ordeal and would help him to heal from his loss.

I saw them last year in order to heal and show them forgiveness. By my leaving the church, I didn't realize that that action would cause them to reexamine what they had done to me. They were hurting all of these years. In a way my coming back and expressing my forgiveness towards them was healing for them too. I no longer saw them as my enemies, but people who needed to know the God they too felt forsaken by. God would chastise them over the years. And of course satan did buffett them. They seemed only to be shallow shells walking. My heart ached for them. They were lost. As I write this, I hurt for them. Out of that circumstance while living with them I understood what it was like to feel enslaved and unloved. I felt what it was like to be wrongfully accussed and mistreated. During the past 18 years those experiences have helped me to grow. And I have a greater compassion for others who hurt. Without that experience I woudl not be who I am today. In some points I am thankful. But I guess I would rather to have learned compassion in another way. As you probably well know that scars are a lifetime. Yet out of those scars, I see myself in others who hurt and I know what they must feel. And I guess that's a story that is worth it if you can reach out and help others once you are healed and strengthened. Thank you for your thoughts. And that you cared to make sure that I was still showing love in spite of painful circumstances.

Unless you attended New Covenant Christian Church of Lansing MI or another congregation from the old discipleship/shepherding community, it is very unlikely you heard ANY of Simpson's works, which are all excelent. That is the problem of being self published. If you contact NCCC Lansing you may still be able to get a copy of their recording "Enthroned in Praise." Edited to add: He was contacted for a job by Integrity Hosanna a little over a year after their first recordings were released to work for them as an arranger and composer. (IH was founded by one of the 2nd tier leaders of the shepherding movement - Garrett Gustafson) They wanted to record a project of just his music as well. He did not get the job because he told them that they were already starting to make everything sound alike.

This song isn't really a hymn, it is a song from Chris Tomlin (which is awsome) it is called "Indescribable". We sing it at our church, Here are the lyrics. 1) From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea, Creation's revealing Your majesty. From the colors of fall to the fragrance of spring, Every creature unique in the song that it sings. All exclaiming... (Chorus) Indescribable, Uncontainable, You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name. You are amazing God. All powerful, Untameable, Awestruck we fall to our knees and we humbly proclaim, You are amazing God.

Abounding: It seems similar to the well-known hymn 'O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder', right? I think so, anyway. Take care. quote:
ORIGINAL: AboundinginHisGrace This song isn't really a hymn, it is a song from Chris Tomlin (which is awsome) it is called "Indescribable".

Trust the Bible. Trust the Lord. Don't trust the appearance of things. (I'm a guy. Some tattoo designs look nice, though...but I haven't worn my earrings lately. So, think the lady in the avatar is my sister?)
