Speaking of Boston, THERE'S a hard accent to nail down. I've only lived here for 2 years, but watching The Departed was still painful - Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg may both be from Boston, but Jack Nicholson surely is not. His accent would just disappear at times.

-Dan.

My MIL, Aunt-in-law and Nana-in-law have such thick Boston accents, we can't talk on the phone - I can't understand them at all. My husband does pretty well though and translates for me.

Wow! I thought the movie was a bit long at 2 hours, but it took me longer than that to read through this thread!

Yes, some acting was weak. It was corny at times. But I quickly put that aside and enjoyed it greatly. It was so emotionally satisfying because I could see so many parallels to my marriage, and the rough spots we've had, and the reconciliation and God's working in our marriage.

Last week I went to Get Smart with my teenage daughter, and couldn't stomach the whole film. I had to leave 2/3rds of the way through it. The Incredibles was the last film that I enjoyed as much as Fireproof. It was great, and I'm going to it again with my wife next week.

P.S. I agree that Kirk Cameron was really quite good and believable.

I thought when Kirk Cameron turned his back on Hollywood, we wouldn't see him on a movie screen anymore so it's really great to see him back there again.

Just wanted to congratulate you on the longest run-on sentence of the week. I read that and thought to myself, "wow, all that in one breath!"

Just watched this movie and I loved it. There were a lot of funny moments with Sister Girl walking fast down the hall so she could spread some gossip to her co-workers, the old couple next door and some other moments.

where CNN is at, i do not go there they are so negative and like Kay arthur has said, we should not listen to the new because they have thier own agendas and they say what "thier" opinion is anyways. but i know watching fireproof will be a blessing like the first movie was.

I saw both Facing the Giants and Fireproof. I liked both of them. I would watch both of them again. I don't think there was really bad acting in either one. I've seen better acting and production, but I've also seen a LOT worse acting (e.g., parts of Star Wars) and production from Hollywood.

I just checked out Fireproof on http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/ Still in the top ten over the Oct. 10-12 weekend (its 3rd week). $16.8+M gross on a $.5M budget.

It's been a couple of years since I saw Facing the Giants. One of the main things I remember about it is that early on in the movie, I could identify with the main character. I don't mean because I'm a football coach (I'm not), but because he just seemed like a real person (not a phony character) going through difficult times.

Finally got to see the movie yesterday.

A lot of the posters were right on when they mentioned how much Kirk Cameron has improved as an actor in this movie (and I personally think even going back to the most recent Left Behind flick).

From a guy's perspective, I loved the action scenes and wished there were more of them, which is my only complaint with the movie.

Verdict: Works well for a date movie, but IMHO, the Kendrick brothers did a better job balancing the humor, emotion and action in Facing the Giants than this movie.

No, I haven't. Believe it or not, I do intend to....for all the criticism I've leveled at the Kendricks, it's the least I can do!

Mediocrity aside, even if the Sherwood films had top notch production values, I would not be able to support them because of the horrid, pie-in-the-sky, God-as-the-genie-that-grants-all-your-wishes theology they preach. It's not realistic, it's not Scriptural, and it's extremely unhealthy as a witnessing tool.

How can you make a comment like this without even seeing the movie? I did not see Facing the Giants or the other one, whatever it's called, but I did see Fireproof and it is certainly not a "God-as-genie" type of movie. It is about someone trying to do what it takes to save his marriage and the process doesn't only change his marriage, it fundamentally changes him. That is a true Christian message of hope and redemption. That is not boring or mediocre. It is a powerful message. When my husband and I went, there were people strongly reacting in the theater; cheering, crying, booing. With the kind of response that it brought in people’s hearts, I really do not think that it is fair to judge it too harshly, as it did a great job of moving people. And not just moving their emotions in the theater, but I believe people will go home with a changed perspective on their own behaviors and attitudes.

This is significant that people will get something from this movie that they can take with them; something that could change their marriages and change their lives. Even if it only appeals to Christians, which I don’t think it would, but even if, it is of value to give Christians a perspective on what it means to really take responsibility for one’s own attitudes and behaviors, not trying to change one’s spouse, but changing oneself. That is the key to life. We cannot try to control or manipulate others to get what we want. We have to take responsibility for our own selves and do what is right. That is a key message of the movie.

Furthermore, I think it is ridiculous to expect a Christian film to be perfect simply because it is a Christian film. They did the best they could and are working to produce a good product. They may be on a learning curve, but there is nothing wrong with that. So far, they have made movies that people enjoy and get something out of. So what if they aren’t perfect, I don’t think that is the point. The point is to reach people with a positive message, to produce movies that people want to see and to give people options for movies that have what they are looking for and lack what they are avoiding. They have scored well on those counts and I think they ought to continue to produce Christian friendly movies. According to Weekend Box Office Results, the movie is at #11 after four weeks and has made $20,725,000. Not bad. That should significantly increase their budget for the next movie they make.

I wouldn’t recommend that you bother to see the movie. If you already plan to hate it, you’ll be wasting your money.

For starters, I never once said that the movie had to be "perfect". Please do not attribute conclusions to me that I did not make.

Plan to hate it? Hardly. But as a movie buff, there are also directors whose project I usually pass on, because my experience with their past projects has taught me that I will not enjoy it.

That is my tendency with FIREPROOF. I've seen the Kendricks' previous efforts and so I am not initially inclined to give them another two hours of my time.

Maybe when it comes to the $1 theatre I will check it out....

I loved Fireproof. My hubby and I had to drive a hour to see it and we volunteered to buy the tickets for a non christian couple we know. They agreed to go and ALL of us Loved the movie. We ended up talking the entire way home and then lead the two of them to Christ. They are now begining to attend our church. This movie touches both walks of life. If you know a non christian couple can I please encourage you to invite them with the promise of bought tickets - it just might change their lives.

I do not think that this movie was underacted or anything like that. I spent the whole movie going "and these are all volunteers?!?!?" I couldn't believe it. You would have thought it was a 30 million dollar movie. Well we did atleast. Just wanted to post my story - thanks for listening.

I finally saw the movie "FIREPROOF"

It was hilarious in scenes (those at the fire station)...and the movie was deeply moving. There was no "cheesy scenes" but a reality of what is common amongst those headed to abolish their marriage. I hope it is released on dvd, soon.

If you haven't seen it...I highly recommend it!
