Resting:
I have seen people give up any activity they enjoy, that there is no scripture against it, in order to keep from hurting others. I don't think Paul meant for it to go that far. My eating a snicker bar can offend someone if they think God has given them a conviction against it.

Check out the alcohol and wine drinking threads in the the morality and ethics folder to get a better idea of what we are talking about.

By the way, i don't celebrate Christmas nor Easter. I feel that our walk with the LORD is a personal one. Personally, i found myself refraining from activities if i see them as blurred of the truth. As i wrote above, I feel Him calling me to be holy and salty and not to be a stumbling block for His Name's Sake not for my own (cuz i sure do like candy ).

restinginHim,

That's certainly acceptable! Probably, for you, it would be a sin due to your belief. All of us have certain lines that we draw. Like you said, "our walk with the LORD is a personal one." You are communicating very respectfully, so I do not feel the antagonism of legalistic vitriole. Thank you very much for that! I certainly believe that we each have individual callings that we must answer, and there is a reason for everything we do. Perhaps, there are people you will encounter who will accept you and your message much more readily simply because of your approach! God bless!

I am addicted to chocolate. I cannot condone your blatant disregard for my misfortune (or that of my pants due to expansion of waistline)!

Thanks car2ner! I'm working on it Does anyone else get annoyed with the glorification of evil factor during halloween? I'm sure you've seen the reenactments displayed in front yards... sometimes makes me think they must have been previously employed on Hollywood movie sets.

bluestone, let me clarify... i don't ever plan on giving up my chocolate. Oh and, perhaps i'm having problems making my way around but the only alcohol and wine threads i found was regarding bible verses discussing grape juice... i'd be happy to read the threads when i find them.

Wes. thanks and i learned a new word ( vitriol meaning abusive or venomous language used to express blame or censure or bitter deep-seated ill will) .

Perhaps individual calling somehow fits in with us being a part of the Body of Christ.

1 Corinthians 12:17-19 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be?

God bless you all for being a blessing to me.

This didn't bother me for a long time until someone asked me one question. I put that question forward now. With so many of the decorations focusing on death and darkness, does it glorify God for me to put them up?

As I had said before, I don't tell anyone else they can't celebrate. I just choose not to do so.

I'm selective about what I put up. Same with Christmas and Easter.

I celebrate Christmas AND Easter. But I celebrate them differently than most others do.

That's me. I don't ban the holiday, but I am not a supporter of the mainstream portrayal either.

I'm happy that Halloween falls on Friday this year, it will help make the evening more enjoyable. My wife and I usually go out for the evening to avoid the constant stream of kids from out of our neighborhood and from neighboring cities. When I was a kid, Halloween was a neighborhood event, not a county or tri-state one. I don't even attempt to fund the National Dentist's holiday Halloween for all the kids that pour into our subdivision...

Like I said last year (and will probably repeat in next year's Halloween thread) my husband likes Halloween, he thinks it is fun, but since he met me he also likes it because it helps him to remember my birthday, which falls the next day.

(it helps him because he says I am such a witch Not so, I just have strong opinions. )

Let me get this in early so that those who wish to ignore it can do so in peace and those who wish to can have the opportunty to respond and get it out of their systems.

The Scriptures provide us with specific opportunties to do all of the "good things" the derived "holidays" bring without the need for doing those things, which one might consider questionable. At this time of year: The Feast of Trumpets provides us with the opportunity to make noise and prepare oneself for Yeshua's return. Yom Kippur(The Day of Atonement) provides us with an opportunity for reflection on those thing we have not done correctly over the last year and reminds us that we can let go of those things because Adonai has accepted Yeshua's sacrifice. And, here is the tie in to this tread, Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles, is when we can identify with our dear departed while we camp out in the crisp Autumn air as they did in the wilderness. For those with ears to hear, I also think this last is when Yeshua was actually born.

There it is. If one wishes to discuss these things in the conrtext of "Halloween/Thanksgiving", I would be happy to take part in the discussion. Otherwise, I will leave others to their celebrations.

Too bad that the majority don't know what any of this is.
And some who are somewhat familiar with the words don't care.

Glad you brought it up.
There are lots of things to truly celebrate
without catering to the flesh.

What else can we call it if we truly analyzed it?

Judaism?

My motto in buying Halloween candy is to get my favorite kind then pray no trick-or-treaters show up...

Okay, all this talk about yummies is not setting me up for a healty eating day.

There's this man who i would say is my friend's husband's enemy. He keeps trying to take her and her kids away from her husband. He is having this party... it's going to have lots of food and family fun and games. But he has let it be known that he will not actually be at the party. The party would be a good time for her and her children -- other friends are there, etc. So my friend is wondering if she should go.

This story i related is not true. I am hoping to illustrate my intent for not celebrating halloween. I feel as if Satan even if he is not visibly present, he is still the originator and the orchestrator of the halloween festivities. So i choose not to go because i feel that this party is of my Father's enemy.

In a previous post, intent was discussed because i was concerned about the halloween celebration by Christians being a stumbling block for others who are not in the faith, or new or weak in faith.
quote:

(All this is solved by knowing that God knows the heart and we do not. Certainly, we can refrain from activities, but our intent should be to teach others (particularly new Christians) not to judge the intent of people unless we have been told exactly what the intent was)

QUESTION: So i am curious. If you do or don't celebrate halloween, what is your intent behind that decision. AND do you believe Satan is the originator and orchestrator of halloween?

I hope everyone is having a blessed morning!! (i really do like the smilies)

I don't think Satan is the originator, humans are, as they are every holiday, and, in fact, the calendar itself.
