I have seen people give up any activity they enjoy, that there is no scripture against it, in order to keep from hurting others. I don't think Paul meant for it to go that far. My eating a snicker bar can offend someone if they think God has given them a conviction against it.
Check out the alcohol and wine drinking threads in the the morality and ethics folder to get a better idea of what we are talking about.

That's certainly acceptable! Probably, for you, it would be a sin due to your belief. All of us have certain lines that we draw. Like you said, "our walk with the LORD is a personal one." You are communicating very respectfully, so I do not feel the antagonism of legalistic vitriole. Thank you very much for that!  I certainly believe that we each have individual callings that we must answer, and there is a reason for everything we do. Perhaps, there are people you will encounter who will accept you and your message much more readily simply because of your approach! God bless!

bluestone, let me clarify... i don't ever plan on giving up my chocolate.  Oh and, perhaps i'm having problems making my way around but the only alcohol and wine threads i found was regarding bible verses discussing grape juice... i'd be happy to read the threads when i find them.
Wes. thanks and i learned a new word ( vitriol meaning abusive or venomous language used to express blame or censure or bitter deep-seated ill will) .
Perhaps individual calling somehow fits in with us being a part of the Body of Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:17-19 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be?

This didn't bother me for a long time until someone asked me one question. I put that question forward now. With so many of the decorations focusing on death and darkness, does it glorify God for me to put them up?
As I had said before, I don't tell anyone else they can't celebrate. I just choose not to do so.

I'm happy that Halloween falls on Friday this year, it will help make the evening more enjoyable. My wife and I usually go out for the evening to avoid the constant stream of kids from out of our neighborhood and from neighboring cities. When I was a kid, Halloween was a neighborhood event, not a county or tri-state one. I don't even attempt to fund the National Dentist's holiday Halloween for all the kids that pour into our subdivision...

There are lots of things to truly celebrate
without catering to the flesh.
What else can we call it if we truly analyzed it?
