It is my opinion that Paul is speaking here of his life prior to his conversion, when the old man was, in him, alive and well.

Arch please explain these verses in Job to me.

I had thought to ask about this in Job as well until I saw that you had. I see what you have asked is being avoided, however.

I think he is going to ignore Job, because it completely disproves his point.

It very present when Paul wrote it.

If the Old Man was dead, He would have attained the resurrection of the dead, which in Phil 3, he said he had not attained it.

I have an easy answer, its just a matter of your accepting it. I am sure I know what you are talking about...but I will let you give me a specific question.

Yeah, It completely destroys that Doctrine, which SATAN (FALLEN ANGEL) wants people to fall into.

It is written in the present tense, yes, but Paul wasn't writing in English, he was writing in Greek. The Greek present can act differently than our present does sometimes. Just because he is speaking in the present tense does not negate the possibility of Paul speaking of his previous state, especially when considering the context of the passage.

The old man has no part in the resurrection of the dead. It is done away with. You're taking Philippians out of context here.

Now, if you would, Job.

If Satan is a representation of a carnal nature, then with whom or what was God dialoging with in Job? Also, who or what caused Job's affliction?

Job said that which I have feared has come upon me. Job had a spiritual nature and a soulish nature.

That is ignoring the conversation between God and Satan.

That's up for debate, heh, but not on this thread.

That doesn't answer the first question. Perhaps I need to be more specific - with whom or what was God dialoging with in Job 1:6-12, and Job 2:1-7?

I Thessalonians 5:23 Be made whole spirit, soul, and body.

God was dealing with the soulish nature of Job. I understand, you may not accept this, but, as a man thinketh in his heart so is he. Job feared the worst in his thought, and it happened to him.

Very practical...

Again, NO ONE has answered my question: Why did Jesus call Peter "Satan".?

From this interpretation, we must assume that God will normally operate in this fashion - that is, making people whatever they believe most about themselves. Is this correct?

quote:

Why did Jesus call Peter "Satan".?

Because what Peter was saying at that time was in line with what Satan would want him to say, and Jesus knew this. He was letting Peter know that his thinking was, in this instance, vastly incorrect. Peter wasn't Satan, but he was being influenced by him.

God was having a conversation with Jobs worst fears?

Job said that which I have feared has come upon me. Job had a spiritual nature and a soulish nature.

You still did not answer the question.

Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them. 7 And the LORD said to Satan, “From where do you come?”
So Satan answered the LORD and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”
8 Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?”
9 So Satan answered the LORD and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing? 10 Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. 11 But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face!”
12 And the LORD said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person.”
So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.

To whom is the Lord speaking in these verses and who is speaking to the Lord?
If you want me to point out a specific verse, then - verse 7 - And the LORD said to Satan, “From where do you come?” -
To whom is the Lord speaking to in this verse?
Verse 7 continued - So Satan answered the LORD and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”
Who is speaking to the Lord?

That doesn't mean God carries on conversations with our fears.

From what I have seen on here, your question has been answered, just not probably the answer you wanted I gather.

I don't think Socratic is the word you are looking for - that would be 'evasive'.
