Too late. Tina Fey is already re-scheduled to appear on SNL this week for a sketch about the VP debate.

They're not. SNL has mocked conservatives and liberals alike for years dating back to Chevy Chase playing Gerald Ford in the 1970s.

Frankly, I think the left is scared of Palin.

Obama is running against the GOP ticket (which includes Palin) so, in effect, he is running against her.

Why is it that no one seems to want to claim right or left. Everyone wants to be in the center. The thing about fence riding is that eventually you have to take a stand on something and you're going to get knocked off the fence. Todd, what I've read of your posts, you're definetly left of center.

But when you're trying to compare an inexperienced PRESIDENTIAL candidate versus an inexperienced VICE PRESIDENTIAL candidate, it's kind of laughable really.

"Yeah, Obama is inexperienced, but so is PALIN!" "But... Palin's not going to be President... which implies that either you think that Obama is experienced enough and by extension Palin in the lesser job is MORE than experienced enough, or that Biden is going to be the one actually running the show as the experienced one, which, heaven help us."

He's saying he's a moderate leftie.

I'm happy to proclaim myself a hardcore liberal, with a few caveats like gun control, nuclear power, abhorrence of most protests. I also love globalization, but I don't think that's counter to the liberal line... just worth mentioning.

But... Palin's not going to be President...

This seems like a tacit admission that she was an amazingly poor pick. If she's not presidential material, what business does she have on the ticket?

I just saw the interviews with Couric and imo, Palin looked very confused and out of touch. I did see the SNL skit before I saw the inerview, went to look up the interview on YouTube and laughed. Actually, I kind of feel sorry for Palin because I do think she's being used, but ... .

I doubt you'll find a single Republican who will state that Palin is ready to be President right now. That doesn't mean she's a poor pick for Veep, because when asked why, we will tell you that she needs more experience, and as none of us expect McCain to drop dead during the inaugeration, we assume she will have plenty of time to get that experience in her Veep role.

Mostly it's an admission that Obama is an amazingly poor pick, because if Palin is too inexperienced to be President, so is Obama... and Obama is the one running for President directly, not Palin. We're looking long-term here. Palin would be a bad pick right this second for President, but we're thinking in 4 to 8 years, after getting some Veep experience under her belt, she'll be terrific.

I saw the SNL skit first, and thought "they're being really mean an unfair to make her look so inarticulate, and uninformed". Then I watched the Couric interview and found that much of the SNL skit was taken right out of the interview. There really wasn't much comic writing required. There was as much Gov. Palin in the skit as there was Tina Fey and writers.

The biggest difference regarding experience between Obama and Palin is that Obama has been on the national stage for almost two years now, and has been campaigning in front of the voters non-stop. People have been able to watch him, listen to him, and come to a judgment as to whether he will be up to the task. Palin -- nobody knows her (they know and like her story, but that's not the same thing), she's been kept on an amazingly short leash by McCain's campaign, given two meaningful interviews and not a single press conference.

Obama has had to explain himself over the Rev Wright issue and Rezko, etc, and has been grilled by the media about both (in press conferences and lengthy interviews with local Chicago reporters). Palin has refused, so far, to discuss Toopergate, which is a very serious accusation of abuse of power against her, and why she is doing everything she can to obstruct a bipartisan investigation she had repeatedly said she would cooperate with.

She might not be expected to know everything McCain knows, but she should at least be able to act as a surrogate for McCain on some of the important issues, and she isn't even be trusted by the McCain team to do that much (they hid her after the debate on Friday). Obama, on the other hand, even in the eyes of some conservative pundits, held his own on the foreign policy questions, which is McCain's strongest suit.

So it's not a question of experience -- McCain would be winning hands down if that were true. It's a question of competence. So far, Obama is passing that test with a majority of the voters. Palin has not even had the chance yet, because McCain is keeping her away from answering just about any questions off the cuff. Repeating the same canned speech at Republican rallies is not enough.

Not really a fair comparison though. Obama is actually running for President. Palin's equivalent is Biden, who, despite his experience, has been frankly a complete bonehead every time he opens his mouth. But, for some reason, the media doesn't appear to care, they just sit around and fuss that Palin's not talking enough. Not to mention that it doesn't matter what Palin says, every time she talks there's an insta-SNL-skit regardless of how well or poorly she did. This is the most biased news and commentary coverage of an election that I can remember.

It's incorrect to say that Obama is winning the majority of voters. The latest poll averages are 48/44 Obama/McCain. That's a higher percentage but it's not a majority of voters (>50%)

Bingo.

I prefer to track to the center because, IMO, shunting hard to the left or right robs oneself of a more well-rounded view of most issues.

Yup. It was one of those truth-is-stranger-than-fiction moments.

Obama has peeked over the 50% mark on Gallup Daily Tracker 3-4 times now.

But I agree, the numbers reflect a snapshot in time. The election is all coming down to the battleground states.

As requested (by Jack), here's a reference by another conservative (David Frum) who is expressing big jitters over Sarah Palin:

“I think she has pretty thoroughly — and probably irretrievably — proven that she is not up to the job of being president of the United States,” David Frum, a former speechwriter for President Bush who is now a conservative columnist, said in an interview. “If she doesn’t perform well, then people see it.

Personally I'm more excited about watching Biden talk about how Abraham Lincoln got on the internet to address the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

I'll be looking how his answers match the questions, because I'm pretty sure his first inclination is to crib sheet someone else's debate.

Why I like Palin. She is the governor of the last frontier. A state inhabited by people with a pioneer spirit. A place where people are not afraid to explore, venture into the unknown, take risk and build for the future. A place that still has people who contain the courage and character that forged the United States of America.

It seems that this spirit has been lost in much of the lower 48. People say she has no experience. That she has not attended the right schools, associated with the right people. Yet, look what the “right schools” and the “right crowd” has gotten us. More of the same. All the problems they seek to end seem to grow bigger. The pioneer spirit has been lost as too many want to do what we’ve always done.

Having moved from Alaska to one of the lower 48 states, I went to work for an organization where things were done as they’ve always been done. When a new idea was brought forth to try and improve communication and operation, it was met with, “We’ve been doing it this way for 110 years and it works just fine.”

We’ve lost our pioneer spirit. How come? Our businesses and our government seem to be failing. Could it be because all the “right schools” are being taught by people with no real world experience? Professors go from high school to college, to grad school to teaching in the class room. Academics is all they’ve ever known and they’re preparing the generations to follow?

Sarah has lived the life of a pioneer. She has taken on the establishment and moved forward building the way to a more promising future, a future that encourages and equips individuals to become stronger.

I'm expecting Palin to be very aggressive (where possible), and try to jab Biden in hopes that he loses his cool.

Now was it popcorn you ate or crow?

It's quite sad to see how so many people get fooled into thinking like this and they actually believe the stuff they are spoonfed by the media. Poor guy probably watches CNN couple of hours a day. It certainly accounts for the scores of misguided posts we see on here.
