ORIGINAL: zamdad quote:
"I work Sunday" - Find another job, do you not trust that God will provide? Proverbs 3:5 and most of all Matthew 6:26 Yes, I trust God provided me with the job I have. As a result of my job, occasionaly I have to wear my uniform to church (police officer). Due to some personal things I have been going through, I have chosen not to go to church for a while. Last Sunday I returned to church looking forward to worshipping with my family. I was told by one of the leaders that having my gun on while in uniform made some people uncomfortable. He asked if I could leave the gun in the trunk of my car. Would we ask this of another officer, visiting our church? Hi zamdad God bless you brother! I honor you as a protector! What a difficult time/society to be a an officer of law! Just in response to your comment. It is wonderful that you went to church even if it was in uniform. I think if you are a member of the church and simply due to respect of your brothers and sisters, yes, but if another officer came to church with a holstered gun was not a member, then the fellowship should not judge him in that manner. Here is my example. If a hooker came to church wearing her "work cloths", would we kick her out of the church?? I highly doubt Jesus would do that. Now im sure if God worked a renewing in her heart, and she became a christian/member, her work would change im sure but also her attire in church. I think we could even compare just a regular person. A person who has conformed to the membership of church would not have an issue respecting a code of dress for the church. If law requires you to wear your gun during that time, and holding a gun is not a sin, then the church should not deny you fellowship because of that. We are commanded to obey the law of the land! Unless the law of the land contridicts the law of God. :-)

Sometimes they are legit reasons and the church has to look at itself first and see if there was something that could've been improved upon. Absolutely. The church I went to as a teenager 20 years ago (which by the way was great overall) used to think you had to be there every Sunday and if you weren't then there was something wrong with you. It would never occur to them that they might be at fault. One family used to catch grief for leaving after Sunday School to go to the Tampa Bay Bucs games (this was before it was trendy to attend Bucs game, they were terrible then). They were season ticket holders. They tried to make it back in time for evening service. Most people would just skip for those eight weeks. They also used to complain about members going to other churches on Sunday nights when the other churches in question had special concerts and stuff. Again they were great overall but they were way too obsessive about attendance. But at the same time my responsibility is to keep myself in check. I'm not responsible for what churches do I'm responsible with what I do. I'm not allowed to blame churches or outside forces for my inconsistent attendance. That just applies to me, I'm not judging anyone else and cannot speak for others. Unless God calls me to minister to them specifically.

You know, now that i think a little bit. It really boils down to the condition of your heart. If you desire to go to church and be a part of the fellowship then i am sure eventually the lord will lead you in that direction and I'm sure eventually your circumstances will change and you will be able to attend.. If you are not going to church because you can't stand church and the people in it, then biblically that is eternally dangerous (even if you call yourself a christian). What do you think Rufas?

I agree more or less but I also think there are exceptions (but I'm not one of them and many who think they are most likely aren't either). I've been busy and such. I'll try to give a more detailed response soon. Thanks to all, I'll work on the blog soon.
