I don't know. I mean, look at Enron. Those guys were caught, but not until after they hurt all of those employees.

And yet, we ignore the minor indiscretions, even though they could lead to larger things if these corporations go unchecked.

In September, we will add two new workers to our department, and those in the department know that we desperately need them. But one of us overheard a manager say that there would be "too many". Yeah, there's that good old corporate mindset for you.

And i'm pretty sure our hours will suffer because of this, when they shouldn't have to.

My only thought is that those in charge need to sell a yacht or two. Or one of their vacation homes. I mean, maybe that will free up enough money to ensure that there are enough people working at the proper times.

I'm all for Capitalism, but I truly feel that the owners are simply greedy.

Because this world is ruled by satan.

If someone isn't for God, they are against Him.

It's that simple.

How many Enrons are out there?

How many companies are out there? Not every company is evil. The vast majority are not.

Our place is not to wonder why those people are in the positions they are in. We can be confident of two things - 1, God wants us to serve them just as passionately as we serve Him, for by working in a way that points to God, we can be a valuable witness. And 2, God will judge those who use power to oppress those beneath them, so rest assured that if they don't change, they will get what they deserve. God is just, and won't let injustice go unchecked.

It has been rightly said, "The only thing necessary for evil to prosper is for good men to do nothing."

"seem" is the key word, risingangel.

Ro 13:1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.

Ro 2:4-8 Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? (5) But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed. (6) He will render to each one according to his works: (7) to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; (8) but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury.

Ecc 8:11-13 Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed speedily, the heart of the children of man is fully set to do evil. (12) Though a sinner does evil a hundred times and prolongs his life, yet I know that it will be well with those who fear God, because they fear before him. (13) But it will not be well with the wicked, neither will he prolong his days like a shadow, because he does not fear before God.

James 5:1-11 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you. (2) Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eaten. (3) Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure in the last days. (4) Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. (5) You have lived on the earth in luxury and in self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. (6) You have condemned; you have murdered the righteous person. He does not resist you. (7) Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. (8) You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. (9) Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the door. (10) As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. (11) Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

Ro 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

Blessings

Did those that found Enron do so as a scam to bilk folks out of their retirement?

I think not. They set out to build a great company and just did not know how to handle the down turn of that company; they certainly did not do it in a Christian manner.

Why did folks go to work for Enron?

Because they paid more with more benefits than anyother energy co. So did greed play a part in those folks losing their retirement? Could be since greed took them there in the first place.

Why did folks invest in Enron?

Because they were paying more dividends that other energy companies. Did greed play a part in their losing thier investments; could be since greed got them their in the first place.

Now if the folks at the head of Enron were living out a Christian life then the fiasco would not have happened; as every one would have lost something.

But I personally do not believe that the leaders were "Evil"; ;just got in over their heads and did not handle it in a Christian manner.

Thanks
RC

First of all...men are corrupt.

Second...power corrupts.

Add power and man's innate natures..and you have corruption.

One word - Sin. God is in control. But read Ephesians 6:12 'For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places'. We must do what we know is right in the sight of God, but accept the fact that this world isn't going to get any better. Those who try to tell you they can solve the world's problems are lying. The prophecies of the Bible are coming to pass and will continue to do so. We just have to decide which side we're on, stand firm and do what he's told us to do.
May God's Mercy and Grace continue to be upon us

Psalm 73 is very instructive for understanding this apparent injustice.

Greed in owners didn't come up overnight. America lost her focus on God and started focusing on money decades ago. Now we are reaping what was sown. The only thing we can do is sow good seed. How do we do that? By instilling in our youth and young adults the concepts of integrity and honor. And we need to live Christlike lives so they can model themselves after us while we model ourselves after Him.

Well actually anyone that says he (or she) can solve the world's problems. We must not look to a person to do what only God can do.

While my line about Obama was tongue in cheek (not easaily discernable on these forums), listening to the promises he's making on the campaign trail it seems he wants government to solve all our problems. His message seems to resonate with the theme, "Elect me and I will run the government that will tend to all your needs and solve all your problems."

I'm not sure exactly where to post this, but since once might be able to argue that it has to do with evil people in charge, I figure I'll post it here.

quote:

Humanity may split into two sub-species in 100,000 years' time as predicted by HG Wells, an expert has said.

Evolutionary theorist Oliver Curry of the London School of Economics expects a genetic upper class and a dim-witted underclass to emerge.
...
This thinking supports interrelated issues such as eugenics and selective-breeding of humans that is completely in line with Brave New World (four manufactured grades of humans) and the agenda of the Aryan race under the Nazi regime.

Human species 'may split in two'

It's an interesting discussion, but the lesson of Germany in WWII is an important one to keep in mind. Even good people eventually became complicit in the misdeeds of the government. One of the insidious aspects of evil is its ability to weave itself through all of us in very small but ultimately overpowering ways.

Evil people do not become evil people overnight. Good people can become evil people over time. There is the phrase "the banality of evil". It can become such a common thing so slowly and silently that for each of us it is a risk. It's why the bible tells us to guard our hearts and think on things that are good and pure.

In some ways it's just a small step between me and "them". I've been one of those up and coming executive types. I've seen it happen, and there but for the grace of God go I.

Sorry to burst your bubble, GroupW, but evil people are evil from the get-go and truly good people are made that way by the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. When we daily deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him, there is no "banality of evil"!
