Can't eat McD's any more. Used to love it. Same for BK, although I stopped eating there when they stopped actually flame broiling them and started painting on stripes and adding smoke flavoring.

I'm not a fan of BK either, but they still flame broil them and the stripes are real. I know this for 100% fact.

Maybe where you are, but here in Jersey I've seen them take the burgers out of the freezer and put them in the microwave. Maybe they're actually flame broiled in some big factory somewhere and then shipped, but there's no grilling going on in the BK's by me.

That's definitely not normal, and I have a hard time believing that the BK corporation would allow that. They're pretty picky. My husband is the IT Manager for over 30 BKs and I worked at one myself for a long time. Unfortunate as it may be , we're quite familiar with the process and BK Corporate's regulations. It's standard to broil them (in house), then hold them in a heated holder for a minimal time then nuke the sandwich for a few seconds after putting it together to take the chill off the lettuce and tomatoes, but the patties are supposed to be cooked in the broiler from a raw, frozen state.

There you go. Burger King 101. Class is dismissed.

In addition to oatmeal that I mentioned earlier in this thread: I will NOT go near an oyster on the half shell. Ewwwww...that's just wrong!

oysters!

They need to be more than raw, steamed...I like mine roasted, as in the shell over a fire with all the juice gone and really roasted, not just steamed and popped open. Cause that's just like swallowing a big ole loogie.

can you say loogie here

Yeah, I don't do oysters or shrimp. Just...can't.

I was thinking, though, that I could probably eat a thick cheesy broccoli soup, or a cheesy broccoli rice casserole.

Yeah...something that I can't really taste the broccoli. I am curious about miasma's broccoli stem pickles, though. I do like a pickle.

doinkdom: That's funny!!! That is exactly how I feel about oysters. Even being with people who slurp their oysters...I have to look away.

Never had an oyster. Love most shellfish though...

They don't love me though so I can't eat 'em.

Oh yeah. Fresh off the flames. Good stuff. I really like them covered in spinach and parmesan, too. Though, last two times they were cold and I still enjoyed them.

My mom makes the best broccoli rice casserole - or quiche. With a rice crust. Hrgngh...this thread is making me hongry.

quick bunny trail...growing up on Tampa Bay, we had oyster roasts all the time...real roasting. Then we moved up here and they call them Oyster Roasts, but they are really oyster steams...they toss a wet burlap bag over the oysters on top of a grill and when the shells pop open just a little, they start eating them. The first time I tried one, I gagged.

The only oyster roast I've been to (where I discovered they weren't gross slimy lumps of snot) involved a fire pit, fire and getting cute boys to crack them open with their big strong hands, for lil' ol me.

And the BEST Frogmore Stew - or was it a Lowcountry Boil? - I've ever had, dumped all over the table to pick at.

Mmm...peel 'em, chop 'em, stick in a jar with sushi vinegar and honey.

It's stage 1. I've yet to experimentize (add garlic? pepper? what?)

*whew* I was so afraid I was going to find out something nasty about my beloved broccoli when I opened this thread.

Broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, green peas, and potatoes are pretty much the only veggies I have *always* loved. I have gotten now to where I will also eat onions in just about any form, anaheim peppers where appropriate to the dish, green beans, corn, raw spinach (or put raw on a pizza so that it's barely cooked when it comes out - yuuuummmmm), good lettuce (never iceberg - BLECH), mushrooms (as long as they're not canned), sweet potatoes, blackeyed peas, and kidney beans.

Non-veggies that I eat now that I used to wouldn't - venison and other wild meats. It truly is all in the preparation. Some fish, I'll even eat it steamed or grilled now instead of just fried. Still don't like a "fishy" tasting fish, it has to be very mild. Lemon shark rocks!

Have always loved almost all fruits and berries. Don't like melons in any form.

Soda. I used to drink it like water as a kid, and somehow over the years I grew to dislike it, specifically the carbonation. I can barely swallow the stuff now!

I have always liked broccoli.

But lately I have lost my long term fondness for Chinese food.

Soda.

Oh yeah, that's another one. I have finally broken my addiction to soda! Woo! It took over a year, but I went from needing at least one a day, to being able to only have one every few weeks. And even then it just doesn't taste all that special.

Ha! I just finished eating a plate of broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots. This thread got me hungry.
