Well, as a Christian I'm just not very concerned about it. God is not going to let us blow the planet up before He is good and ready for that to happen. Could it set off the stuff in Revelations? Well, maybe. But if it does, it's prophecy so it was going to happen anyway, so... *shrug*

I agree. For example just today I was talking to my sister about this and when I asked if she'd heard about it she instantly started saying how dangerous it is and that "people shouldn't be messing around with things they know nothing about". Of course she had really only gotten her news from television. When I told her that everything is fine and that in fact there are already other colliders and we're all still here, she didn't even know about them.
I think the media just loves a good scary story. Hype.

If they didn't mention the naysayers, then it would be 'covering up". The report I saw had interviews with a critic (a scientist, not some nut) and someone connected with the project.

I suppose you're right. It just seems like every other week someone is coming up with the idea that the end of the world is going to come about due to some unforeseen problem with new technology. Usually it's all just fear mongering and there was never even the slightest danger.
It just gets old I guess!

Well they tested the thing and there were two major earthquakes in Japan and China. HuhMmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
And my dog barked all night at something he could not see.
As Red Buttons used to say, "Strange things are happening".

China was going through a very active period of earthquakes even before they turned this thing on and Japan has sizeable eathquakes all the time so what's so strange about that?
Dogs barking at seemingly nothing. Gee, my dogs never do that!
People are trying to read into this super collider things that just aren't there!

I think it is certainly okay to quote naysayers, but, like I said, in the articles I read, none were from reputable scientist who had any idea what they were talking about and MOST of the articles I read didn't even name them. And these were "reputable" sources such as CNN, Foxnews, etc.
There were quotes from scientists (again, reputable ones, not say, retired high school physics teachers) that thought it wasn't going to work, but none from scientists that believed the world was in danger. If you saw one, I would love to see a link to it.

Full-power operation of the world's largest atom smasher will be delayed at least two months because of an electrical malfunction.
The delay is due to the fact that the collider's operating temperature inside the track is -456.3 degrees Fahrenheit (-271.3 degrees Celsius).
For engineers to fix the problem, the section has to be warmed up, repaired, and cooled back down, a process known as a thermal cycle.
The thermal cycle for the LHC is about two months.
"The actual fix will be a day or two probably," he said. "The problem is you have to warm it up and cool it down again. That's what takes up time."
