On a scale of 1 (LOW) to 10 (HIGH), all things considered, (health, finances, relationships, faith etc ...)

Are you happy?

Right now I'm at 7.5.

Normally it varies between 6.5 and 8.5.

I would say right at this instance, it is about a 3. I have been struggling for 3 months now with varying things. at some points i was seeking God a lot more and at others, I just "get too busy". I just know that I need to break out of this funk and get back to seeking Him more, and trust that is love and mercy will wash over me.

I never thought about it. I'm not a depressive type personality but considering the things you listed and using my husband's health instead of mine, I'd say 5.

I'm not unhappy but I'm not content at this stage of my life.

Like Diane, I seldom give happiness much thought. Happiness is a condition that is determined by temporal, fleeting circumstances. I have learned to measure my quality of life on biblical "Joy" which transcends circumstances and is based on eternal, stable realities.

Those eternal, stable realities include the object of my faith, Jesus Christ: Who He is and also what He has accomplished for me and others that He redeems.

Well said, Jimbo.

Thank you all for your responses. Very helpful.

What prompted the question was a discussion I had with someone as to whether being a Christian necessarily makes one happier in life.

I believe that our outlook, if based on the fact that Christ is with us at all times, would be more positive even when we face difficult times.

I pray that God helps you all, especially if at this time you're facing any problems or difficulties.

Thanx and God bless.

I would disagree with that. Heavily.

Give me a 1.5. Maybe a 2. Though I will personally admit that much of this is my own fault.

Good point Jimbo.

Happiness depends on happenings, but joy comes from the Lord! And the joy of the Lord is my strength even when my circumstances seem out of funk!

Happiness is a function of the moment(or recent past)while joy(or enjoyment)is a live(ongoing)experience of obedience to a person or cause. We all know people in similar 'loss'(or victory)that react differently. While the circumstance and ramification are generally the same in a broad sense, the one of faith has access to the HS(for sure)and to a 'family of faith' outside oneself. Maybe that won't help much for loss is always personal but even glimpses of the HS through the haze might steer us out.

"God is not all we would ask for(if we are honest) but it is precisely when we do not have what we would ask; only then we can clearly perceive His all-sufficiency. It is when the sea is moonless that the Lord has became my Light" -Elisabeth Elliot-"Keep a Quiet Heart"

"The Lord is my light and my salvation-whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life-of whom shall I be afraid?" Psalm 27:1

Isn't happiness a choice? It can be a hard one to make when things are not going well, though.

I'll play along. I have to say I'm at a 7 for I am content and I also see things I need to improve with God's help.

This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad!!

Looked it up and found this.

http://thousandsofsermons.com/sermons/writeser/ser00448.htm

So basically, all that Biblical joy is is being happy that Christ died for your sins and doing what God wants of you.

I am Happy - a big 10. The surrendered life does that for me. I trust that God is in
control of everything in my life. Takes a lot of pressure off of me.

Someone shared this with me and it was very thought provoking.....either "you Trust
God or you are playing God."

Yep........If you are Happy and you know it CLAPP your hands........lol

clapping here!!

I was told today that because of issues I had getting to a class because of the bus, I was deemed a no show and am now fighting for my place in the class at my community college today. While a bit distressed for about 10 minutes, I spent the rest of the morning praying and praising the Lord for his provisions that he's given me already and how sorry I was for not trying harder in the first place to get there.

I hadn't been happier in a long while, so a 10. All thanks to the Lord.

For the stuffed shirt crowd that thinks there is something wrong with being happy;

One definition of "Blessed" in the Bible is to make happy.

I am very blessed ergo I am very happy.

Thanks
RC

Same as RC, 10+. Why wouldn't I be when I have the God of creation on my side? No matter what happens, I sit calmly and safely in His hands. :)
