This was written in my PFY thread... We know the God who made the hurricane. We know the God that is watching over Ben and our other friends down south. Don't let fear get a grip. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

Remember the one about the guy on the roof and the floodwaters rising who waited for God to save him while God sent a boat and a helicopter? God doesn't want us to put common sense on hold either! Remember hurricanes spawn tornados and we know that if one can rip through a wood house, a trailer is nothing! I think your girls will be afraid of the storm and doubly afraid if you are still in the double wide! Why don't you stay and protect them and assuage their fears. Is there anything in your home that is worth a chance of depriving your daughters of their father? My brother works for the DHS and coordinates the logistical response to these storms (he rode out Katrina in a military bunker and coordinated clean-up in Mississippi) and this storm is a monster irregardless of its CAT status. It is way larger than Katrina in area which means the winds might not be as strong (100 mph is still enough to do damage) but they'll probably be around for a longer period of time.

There are still idiots in Galveston! The mayor there is running a close race of incompetence as Nagin/BlanK0.

the figure I heard was 40 percent is staying in Galveston. Folks who want to think they're survivors, or on a survivor reality show. The eye of the storm is very large. That's a good thing. the latest satellite I saw made me want to see a turn to the right. Good for me, bad for Steph. Have been praying for you girl. Ready as we can be... Now comes the waiting game. It's gonna be a long night.

The mayor didn't stress that the problem with this storm would not be the winds but the 20+ foot storm surge on top of the high tide with 10+ foot waves on top of that. It is going to be Biloxi, Gulfport, Waveland all over again. The mets are saying that the surge is bigger than Katrina and have been at least since yesterday. The deaths from Rita were from the people panicking in Houston and fleeing clogging the roads out. If you live on the coast you must be prudent in leaving because that surge will more than likely kill you. There is supposed to be an order of who leaves first, it's always those on the coast first then the next vulnerable area and so forth and so on. If people follow those rules then all people can get out of danger in a timely manner.

I saw an interview with someone who left for Gustav and it cost them over 500 dollars and now a little more than a week later they can't afford to leave again.

There were a lot of people here in SWLA who were in the same situation but the local and state leaders were emphatic that anyone who wanted to evacuate would have a place to stay with meals at no cost so around here there isn't an excuse for them not getting out of harm's way.

It's amazing how the water has come up so high and the center is still a good 4 hours away from landfall. That reminds me of a funny... I was listening to a news reader on the radio a few days ago after Ike came off Cuba. She told her listeners that the storm had made "landfall" in the Gulf! Don't they realize how absurd they come off as?

Falling trees are very dangerous. Most of the deaths with Gustav here was due to trees falling on houses. Same here when Fran went through some 12 years ago. When she hit, she was "just" a Cat1 storm. But several tropical storms had been through in the weeks before, so the winds of Fran sent trees crashing through homes.

Continuing my prayers for you all. I feel so helpless up here! I wish I could be down there helping (after the storm, that is). You have been so close to my heart and in my concerns, all day....

Good news! (Well, besides the Gospel message...) As this thing gets closer to shore it seems to be falling apart. Dry air is getting drawn into the center of the storm. Still will cause much destruction over a widespread area, but I'll take what I can get!

Here in Canada we're getting a lot of news about Ike. I was amazed when the TV weather guy showed the same information he would have for a big storm here. I'm praying for you all! (And Ben, I found my way here without a link. My next complaint is these abbreviations you all use that I have to go google to find out what they mean--NOLA and SWLA--sheesh!) (Since most of you don't know me, I'd better clarify that I'm simply giving Ben a hard time.)
