That's so sad. I know, I hate saying that I hope it stays on this track because then others will lose their homes and be in danger... who am I to pray that it misses my home? It stinks no matter what, and it will in some way affect everyone. I hate hurricanes.

Stina, probably to Austin or somewhere around there. They'll get some bad weather, but nothing very dangerous. Austin is north-west of us.

crystal....my brother (who lives in austin) was saying that they were emptying out galveston and parts of houston into austin...so it is insane there...so it may be a better idea to head towards browsnsville or that general area instead.

It does look like they think it might stay at only a cat 2, so that is much better than the 4 they were predicting for a while yesterday. It's such a HUGE storm though. And so strange.

There are no hotels in the valley, last we checked. There are some non-hurricane things going on there this weekend, so that plus all the people evacuating down there - it's all packed.

My parents headed to Austin today (my uncle lives there, and that's who we'd stay with, or we have friends in San Antonio we could also stay with) and they had no traffic. I'm sure tomorrow it would be worse, but we'd take some back roads that the Houston area probably wouldn't.

I hope Galveston/Houston all gets out. I keep seeing Rita-like evacuations in my head. That was so bad. I have some family in Houston that are staying.

thats good that you would have family to stay with then....I was mostly meaning a hotel might be hard to find.

That's good Yolanda! When my sister moved there she had such a hard time finding a good doctor. Now she has a good one, but the first one she found was awful.

(((All the ladies affected by the hurricane)))

We got a heads up last night that gas prices were going up here. So we got in line with everyone else and filled up last night while we were out. This morning gas was up 12.9 cents a litre I'm so glad we filled up....does Tricia read in here? Thanks Tricia for the heads up!!!

Can I ask you all to pray?

A co-worker of my husband and his brother has been attending our church for the last few months. Last night he was arrested. No one is able to bail him out (two people tried but the police wouldn't release him to their custody, we're not sure why) so they are going to hold him for the weekend. But he's been told at his job if he misses anymore work then he could be fired.

He's been warned for years that he needs to stop doing what he's doing or something bad is going to happen...which is what has happened. Our prayer is for everything to be sorted, but as well that when he does get out he will continue at church and continue with God. We're worried because of the place he is in (he is so close to giving his life to God) that he may take this as an opportunity to give up on God.

Why did I go read that thread in parenting and I even posted by I had a runtime error so apparently I was not suppose too. It was not mean, just my feelings on the situation. Oh well I will keep them to myself .

Lexie - I am sorry to hear that. I hope this sends him running to God not away from God!

Today we have to go take hubby lunch again, but other than that we are staying put today. It looks yucky out, but if it does not rain we will be outside some today. I have laundry and cleaning...the usual to do as well. Ready for the weekend!

Same here! Oh well, me thinks that someone will definitely be eating their words a few years from now.

I went in there to see what all the fuss is about and all the parents seem to be very balanced in their suggested parenting techniques... frankly, I was shocked... but think of it this way, all who are participating are helping others to understand what it's like to be a godly parent. I think over time and with experience, the opinions given will be changed.

I'm eating my words these days over really simple things...

I used to say "I would never let my child out of the house with a dirty [face, shirt, etc]

Now, just let me say....

HAH!

Once I had Akeelah, I had a few meals of words!

(I used to always listen to my SIL's complain about mothers with mixed race children would take them out of the house without their hair combed properly. They would automatically think the mom doesn't know how to do hair and doesn't care. I felt the same, but now, seeing how long it takes to do Akeelah's hair in the morning, and how sometimes you need to run out of the house quickly, I eat my words on that. Though I still do believe that is what hats are for!)

I'm listening to a great song, really speaking to me right now, I want to share it.

Go HERE and it's track 3

It's freezing here today! I slept in long pajama pants last night, and even got up and put on my fleece robe and slept in that too!! We need to get our house done so we can get the wood furnace going!

my list also includes ....I would never without matching clothes.........lol.............well, let me just say...I have worked very hard over the years to do that one, but it still hasn't always worked. I can't tell you how often I could swear they were clean when I buckled them in, then when I unbuckled them you would have never known....lol. DIRT MAGNETS....that's what kids are.

Jack has learned to flush....and he likes it.....so every time he goes to the potty he thinks he has to flush first, then sit on the toilet, then flush again, then sit again....etc. Usually I hear 6 flushes or so!!!! ......trying to see the positive, that he is potty training.

I thought I was over the sick junk, but then woke up this morning with my throat hurting again.....

I am really frustrated with the state of my home at the moment. There is stuff everywhere and I just can't seem to get it back on track. When had family in back to back weekends recently and it stayed cleaned, but when my left the house was a wreck. Between 6 adults and 2 kids...whoa! That was two weeks ago and no much has changed. I will get the main living areas spotless and by the time I am ready to move on the kitchen has dirty dishes and there are toys everywhere. It does me no good to try and clean while he is awake either because it doesn't matter what I am doing he finds a way to make it difficult to accomplish. By the time he goes down for a nap I am tired and want to rest too...ughh! I am really just venting at the moment, but really frustrated at the same time. I have tried letting him be my helper, but that only works party of the time. Just overwhelmed

I just posted in that parenting thread. I really think it is easiest to just leave if you get annoyed by someone having a tantrum. Isn't that just easier than getting worked up and mad at the family? Seriously, there are more important things to life than getting worked up over something that you can just walk away from.

Crystal, which way do they think it is headed now? My BIL and his gf are lucky cuz they can afford to fly far far away from the area. Not many people can afford to do that...

Sarah, I will pray for Jo. The poor lady. I was thinking yesterday and wondering how people cope with finally getting their lives/homes back in order just to see it destroyed again. I would never want to live anywhere where a hurricane could go through. I would be a nervous wreck all the time.

Lexie, I will pray.

(((((((((((((Sarah))))))))))))) so sorry that you are still sick today.

Yolanda, I am listening to that song now. It's funny cuz it has the same sound as an old DC Talk song. [:D

Hhahahahahaha! That paints a funny picture in my head.

Nicole, is there anyway you can take a midday nap? You may get a second wind in the evening.

Sarah, I'm sorry to hear that you're still feeling sick.

Chelle, I never worry about picking up toys while Nathan is awake. I'd rather worry about dirt and grim then simple toy clutter. But I so understand not wanting to do anything when he's napping, 'cause I'm tired, too! I am going to try and sweep and mop the kitchen floor, though. If you just need a solid 30 minutes of cleaning, are you opposed to putting on an episode of Curious George?

Sometimes I do the dishes when Nathan is having his lunch. I think he's feeling better, 'cause he had a huge lunch today. It's hard to tell how this throat is doing, but I think he's really on the mend.

Hurricane Ike has already started to flood Galveston Island. It's only a Cat 2, but the flooding is supposed to get pretty bad. Definitely praying.

I looked up Galveston Island. I never knew that was there. Oh my... I would be so scared if I had a house there...

By the way, the only reason my BIL and his gf decided to leave their home was because Lorne's parents got mad at them and told them to leave. I am sooooo glad they made him leave.

No, not at all except my lil' guy is not a tv watcher. I have tried every show that I am ok with him watching and it will keep his attention for a few minutes and then he is on to something else. He does not like to sit still at all...he is a busy, busy, busy little boy.

Hopefully he stays busy busy busy because when he is older you can get him to clean the whole house while you watch tv!

Maybe you can just go to bed early tonight, Nicole.

I've been kinda depressed the last few days. I can't bring myself to stop watching 9/11 stuff on YouTube. It reminds me of how I ended up dropping out of high school I would cut class to watch CNN. It hard to stop watching that stuff and getting angry and depressed. I think I'm gonna have Robert put a filter on my computer, so I can't watch YouTube for a while. We've had to do that last couple years.
