quote:
ORIGINAL: deliveredarling There are some who "think" they want to hear the truth....only if it lines up with their version of the truth. Some are very sensitive, overly sensitive and we should be careful at all times in our delivery. I know that I appreciate the direct truth to be given to me, however my son, who is 15 and a brilliant young man, so brilliant that he knows it all. Now, when he brings me his papers that he has just whipped out in the last few minutes and I find error or sloppy work, he is not so interested in the truth. He's more than willing to listen to the truth about the brilliance of his work, but he is not so inclined to her the truth about how is work is lacking and that it is evident ,that he just wrote it in record time. Point being, we want the truth if it lines up with our ideals of what the truth is. When it doesn't we get offended. I have been guilty of this as charged. The beauty of it is this, the truth will be revealed no matter what the circumstance. Sometimes pain is the best teacher and it's certainly a good reminder. /agree

C_M, I am glad that the bad news you have is not for me, or at least that I've distracted you from giving it to me yet. Mvic and I do not share much, and so if in fact it is for me, but could be given to him to deal with instead, that's the ticket. Thanks, and I think you'd make a pretty good bad news bearer. I don't like "guess what happened" or "you are never going to believe this" or "I have some bad news" or "you had better sit down" or "I'm sorry but" or "I have something to tell you and you are not going to like it" or "do you want the good news first or the bad news" and "I'm not sure how to tell you this but". The anticipation is worse than the info because some of these make my heart jump and it may not be anything at all.

If it's bad news or something that I need to work on, my spiritual leader is like "So, here's the deal...." I have gotten used to it lol.

I want the truth and I want it now. It's torture waiting for someone to finsh beating around the bush to find out just what is wrong. It increases the worry, anxity, uneasyness. It doesn't help at all, only makes it worse. Sympathy may be fine after braking the news, but doesn't help at all till you know what you need it for. But we can be direct and still brake the news gently, kindly. Just not slowly.
