I tried to find the art, but I couldn't find them. Rats!

Oh, Sisrev! I should tell you! I bought a children's Bible so I could take the art out of it and put it in my looseleaf Bible. That was the cutest biblical art I had ever seen. it makes me smile everytime I open that Bible. You can buy your own Tanakh quite inexpensively, if you want. But you probably knew that. Stone's can be picked up at common book stores.

I love the children's section at a good religious bookstore! If you have little ones, the "Read with Me" Bible is a good one for when they are starting to read but still need a little help.

I love to look at the toys, too--the Bible action figures are cool! I used to buy them for my son when he was little--he's in college now, and he still looks at them when we go to a new store to see if there's one he doesn't have. He collects Moses figures now, so I'm always on the look-out for those.

My son has a New JPS Tankh, and the Stone Edition Chumash (sp?). I can use his right now, but one of these days he's going to graduate and go on out into the world, so I'll need one of my own, then! I would also like to have a Chronological Bible, but I get ashamed sometimes at how many Bibles I have, plus my study books, and how many indigenous pastors in other parts of the world have nothing. So I downloaded a reading schedule that lists the scriptures in chronological order, but I haven't ever printed it and started it. I would like to read the Bible chronologically one of these days.

Sisrev, don't be ashamed about how many Bibles you have...you should meet my best friend...she has like every translation and two of the same exact Bible. Just one hard covered and one is soft covered!

I primarily use the New American Standard Version (NASB)

I thoroughly enjoy these versions too:

  • English Standard Version (ESV)
  • New Living Translation (NLT)

NLT is a "dynamic equivalence" meaning, that it goes for a more "Thought for Thought" translation of the bible rather than a "word for word". I find this helps to understand the context of the verse/chapter I am reading.

I was first given a New King James (NKJV) but I don't like that version too much. No reason, just don't care for it.

I think sometimes of that saying, "Why should anyone hear the gospel twice until everyone has heard it once" (or something kind of like that!) I hate to spend money on new Bibles, when I already have so much, and so many have such little. I think I don't utlized what I have well enough to "deserve" more, I guess! Or I think I'm selfish to want it.

For those who have many Bibles and really need to cull them down in order to share:
Once in awhile, I have done a "Bible Drive," asking people to send their extra Bibles, new Bibles, and Bibles they just want to give. I box them up and send them to people who need them. If you know missionaries, it is easy to learn from them who can use these Bibles, then just send them.

Oh, and another Bible I have and highly recommend for giving away: The Picture Bible. I am amazed at how accurate it is! This Bible is great for giving to people who have difficulty reading (to the young person who doesn't like reading in general, to the illiterate and semi-literate, to someone who is somehow mentally incapacitated).

I use the Thompson Chain Reference, New International Version. I really enjoy using this Bible for general reading, but especially for study.

I also have The Message that I use for casual reading (sometimes), especially if I encounter a particularly difficult to understand passage.

I just wanted to say welcome, to any new members who have posted.
I certainly can see how easy it would be to obtain many different bibles. Because, i enjoy comparing versions and browsing through the bible sections in the stores. I am also planning on reading the chronological plan next after i am done with my current one.
Covaan_Meshuga, what a wonderful practice of having a bible drive! I agree, too, it's important to offer up bibles which are accurate but yet easy reading. I'm sure there are people out there like me who may have read the bible earlier if i had a more understandable edition. And yes, it was your description of your big looseleaf bible that got me curious of the types of bibles others have...

My favourite is the NIV Archaeological Study Bible. I have two copies of it, one leather-bound, the other hardcover. And I have a small NIV leather edition in my purse. I love to have my Bible with me wherever I go.

I agree. I also like to have a version for which I can get an exhaustive concordance.

I used the search feature on the MSN home page, I'm not sure which search engine they use. I think I put in "Shabbat pictures" or something similar. Then I clicked on one of the ones that came up, and it brought me to the page I got this one from.

Sorry I can't be more specific. I've gotten some really nice avatar graphics that way. Sometimes I have to resize or crop it a little to make it usuable here, but that's all I do to it.

The NASB is really good, but sometimes the wording is so choppy. That bothers me.

I have several Bibles, but the ones I use are all KJV.
My primary Bible is an Old Scofield Reference Bible, and my primary study Bible is a Companion Bible edited by E.W. Bullinger, and my secondary study Bible is the King James (Liberty Annotated) Study Bible.
I also have a Classic Note Bible that I use for note taking during church. It has a blank page between every page with text on it.
I have a 1611 KJV replica, a Greek/Hebrew Interlinear, and a Parallel Bible (with 4 translations I think).
i also have a FCA Bible from an old camp I attended, (NIV) and a paperback NASB, but I don't use those.

NKJV is a must, as King James is the only English Bible that has been around for generations. It gives us a connection to English believers of the past.

Also use NIV and CEV (Contemporary English Version), which I really love.

Just had a round with a preacher who believes the KJV is the "inspired inerrant word of God" and all other translations are not.

I use many differant translations.

I was headed into the bookstore to buy a new bible the other day. I planned on buying The Message bible, but then I found the Women of Faith Study bible (NIV) and bought it instead... I also bought my daugher a study bible for teen girls.
