The two types of loss that immediately spring to mind are death and divorce. How do you define types of loss?

God definitely knows better than us. :)

i think we agree on the most important part in that He knows better than us.

i started thinking about death and thought of natural death, death by sickness, spouse getting murdered. the last case along with a case of divorce, made me think that sin in the world can affect people's status. so sin (brought about by people's choices resulting from free will) can lead to singleness. well then not just huge things such as death and divorce, but littler things as well. thus the one could change over time. thus i don't see it as a one but more than one which is not one.

that is some messed up interpretation ... it just doesn't vibe with other scripture such as Jeremiah 29:11 that Focusing posted ...

I agree, that's why I don't hold to it.

An Article from the Internet Month

It's an interesting article and has some relevance to what's being discussed, esp in the area of being married and growing in the Spirit.

I can not believe it.........

I am absolutely sickened by what has happened to this thread while I was away........

A nice little container garden being watered by thoughts has turned into this massive garden full of seeds just crying out to be watered........

I hear you "fruits of the spirit or is it fruit(singular) of the spirit?,....

I hear that cry......little "does God tell who we are going to marry" seed

Oh yes I see you as well....."..is it my fruit or the spirit's fruit" seedling......

Wait how could I miss that big seed laying over there.........the" is it free will or not" seed........man that one seems to be everywhere.......

look at this garden!!!!!! seeds of thought are all over the placed, planted in the rich soil of singlewood.........do I dare water them? Can I resist watering them?

What shall I do????? They are already growing in my mind.......this vine here and this one there..........oh my........how cruel of you all to come into a simple little garden and plant all these other seeds of thought

For those who do not understand my ramblings........this thread was a singular thought and now so many different thoughts and topics for discussion have been introduced my mind no longer can focus on the one thought because there is so much more to discuss......so many directions for a discussion to move.........

...tsk...tsk...tsk..I hope you managed to get a good night sleep Joy. You sounded pretty exasperated there at the way the thread went.

Actually, since I started the thread, I'm pretty happy at how it flowed in some theological discussions. I like exploring those ideas. The main question really warranted a discussion on why we believe what we believe, so when Shema and the rest steered this into that direction, I thought we'd finally get to the real answer as to why we believe in the one, and if we have any biblical support for it. I see the discussion as very highly relevant to the question....

So, keep it going............

I used to believe in that notion - God has a mate for each one of us - but I don't anymore. I believe now that there's many blessed availables out there, depending on the paths and choices you make in life.

That was my thought at seeing the discussion taking place! Agreed, keep it going!

There is no such thing as "the one." Greg Laurie said it so many times to bears repeating, "If you are going to find the "one," be that one....

I have a terrible habit of not explaining my thoughts thoroughly. Thanks for being more thorough on the types of losses.

Your comment is interesting, and I've been thinking about it a little today. I also believe that you might not be a fan of The Who.

One and one make one."

Nice article. I love the fact that he is learning or has learned to see beyond denomination or sect of Christianity and to give his wife the freedom to pursue Jesus as a Catholic, even as he is Baptist. Yes, that is growth - that we learn to love one another - that there be unity. Good point in relating to this thread.

Rgod, you should bookmark his site. His reflections are so downright real, it always speaks volumes. Read some of his articles...I strive to be that honest in my walk with God. I find that most Christians can't handle that type of honesty though....which is sad because we just end up hiding.

He's called the Internet monk.

Focusing,

I giggled this morning while getting ready for church. In a previous post, I mentioned Romans then started the verse from Jeremiah. I was thinking Jeremiah but got confused with Romans 8:28 (...all things work together for good...). Thank you for catching it! I also appreciate how you corrected me without "correcting" me. Gentleness--Fruit!!

I just wanted to add that I really love the way this thread is going. I love hearing everyone talk about "The One" and especially enjoyed the exchanges between John_O and joy2give2u (and IWFNE too among others). Now that I'm really thinking about it, I think I tend to lean more towards joy2give2u - but at the same time, I do believe that if you don't marry God's best for you - God can still bless the marriage if you both honor His way of things. So much to think and pray about here.

I was laughing and joking about my love of a good discussion.....and habit of posting's questions which arise from others post all the topics which were brought up where ones I would so love to have a discussion on LOL........

So no I was not exasperated the way the thread was going.......I was loving it and bummed I did not have time to reply to all questions which prompted more question

I thought we'd finally get to the real answer as to why we believe in the one
I think before we can really have a clear discussion of whether we believe in "the one" it might be wise to define "the one"

I am not sure how others define "the one" but have the impression it might be different then how I define it.......

When I think of "the one" I don't think of him as a character in a story where, at the beginning, the author decides two's eyes will meet and they will know they are meant to be together for their the rest of their lives.......the Hollywood love at first sight type love Sam spoke of......

No I see it more as a story, or screen play, already completed. A play were each character was was allowed to improvise and play a role, by free will, to make choices which helped develop the story.....but as the characters were making these choices the author allowed and disallowed things in their lives which directed the story to follow the outline he had established.

I see God reading or watching the story unfold which he has already read.....and when he comes to certain parts, such as which man of the 20 men in the room for me to chose from, he jumps with excitement as I walk close to the man who he knows I will marry and shouts " oh yes he is the one"

Can you picture God that way.......watching our lives as we live out what he saw before we were even born........ ..............

Can you see God's, the father, getting all emotional as his beautiful daughter walks towards the one He already knows is going to love her in such a way that she will see God in such love.

Can you see God watching our lives before we meet......watching as our choices, along with the things he allows or disallows in our lives, moves us further on the path that he already knows will merge our separate paths into one.......

I imagine God gets as excited seeing it now lived out in our lives as he did when he watched our lives before we were born.......

I see "the one" as the man to whom God has already seen me say "I do" .....the one I did so with outside of time before it has happen in time........and I see him dancing with joy.......I see the pleasure filling his heart as he says .......oh yes, my love, he is the one with whom you will discover a love which is even greater then any you have experienced thus far.........Yes my love he is the one I have already seen as your beloved........

I think the confusion comes with seeing life as a straight line instead of a circle.......we live in a strength line what God sees in a circle.........with us there is a beginning and an end........with him there is a circle........and though we can't see what happens past the curves of the circle God has already seen it.

quote:

a single person boasting about "the one" is one thing, but a single person boasting that God told them..... sounds like a fairy tale from some romance novel.
Though I believe God can and does at times share with someone a person is "the one" I also believe we usually don't know the person is "the one" until much later in the relationships.

When I say "the one" it means to me the one God already knows is the one I will marry.....as for me I may not know........and back to my comparison to the hiking trail........I don't think we always realize the moment our trail merges with the other persons trail......I think sometimes we can be walking side by side on the same path for a while before we notice we are no longer walking alone but another has come along beside us and now we are walking together......

We can choose to ignore God. Jesus says that he will not lose a single one of his sheep, but that doesn't mean some will not choose to stray from Him. In straying from him our lives will not be as blessed as they should have been. "bad" marriages would fall into this category IMO.

God has an overall plan for this world and He tasks us all to do our part to complete that plan. If we choose, either willfully or out of ignorance, to not fill our part God sees this and has already sent another to take our place in that task.
