The date on that story is May '07. A year ago or ten years ago, it doesn't matter...those teachers should have known better. They are(or should be) trained to know better. Basic child psychology is not that hard to grasp.

ORIGINAL: iluvatar The date on that story is May '07. -Dan. yes, the first link was a year ago (right after the Virginia Tech stuff)...but the other link I gave further down about it happening at a university was earlier this year. Ah, I missed that one. At least the sort of tried to tell people it was a drill. -Dan.

Your not the only one! And I have a child that if they were EVER lied to or scared by a teacher or adult authority would lose all respect for that teacher or adult. And I wouldn't blame them. I also have another child that would not be able to sleep for weeks! I would have been traumatized for months likely, and my father would have let his presence and anger be known at the local school office! Blessings, Garsy Its good to have someone to relate to.

I agree that the students and the parents should have been notified that it would be a drill. In High School, I remember that once a year, a week before prom the school, in cooperation with the local police department/fire department/hospital, would a stage a fatal car accident involving drunk driving. We all received notices from the school saying that there will be a staging and several of students will be anonymously picked to be part of the staging. During the week of prom, a real, wrecked car (complete with dried blood from the occupants still in the car) from a real drunk driving car accident would be displayed in the quad of the school. The purpose was to keep kids from underage drinking. Even though notices were sent out, it staging still shook up a lot of the students, and it helped them think twice about drinking alcoholic beverages.

Now I know that I live in a really sm rural town but, why do schools have week long camping trips. Just wondering. I guess the principal must of thought that learning the skills of reading and math and such must of gotten too mundaine and boring for the students. I can see how wanting to know how to spell "Suppercalifradgelisticexpealidocious" can be way too easy for some children. But seriously, I would think that some parents would need to be taking some leagal action towards the school soon if it hasn't been done yet.
