Lol, you "closed bathroom door" people always make me laugh. There was another thread about it in marriage and it made me wonder if our bathroom doors even lock. I had no clue(they do, by the way) so I asked Micah and he didn't know either.

We only close the door for "Number 2," otherwise it's open. That's the only thing we withhold from each other... and that's just fine with me!!

Lol! We do the same, HisCov. And even then I think it is more out of respect for the other person then our own privacy

I am VERY private about my period. My husband is sort of grossed out by periods so out of respect for him I do not leave things out in the open. My supplies are kept in a cupboard and I even keep a trash can in there to dispose of things. I rarely complain about cramps to him.

you know... when we were first married, my husband thought that women who complained of cramps were just being dramatic. His mom and sister never complained of any, because they never had any, and therefore he thought no one really had any. Then he married me. I have horrendous cramps, get moody, irritable, and actually vomit sometimes from the changing hormones as well. At first he said something like "if you can be 'nice' and 'normal' when you are out with others, I don't understand why you can't be like that at home" He quickly changed his mind when he began to see just what all happened with me with each period. He understood that it was taking all I had within me to make it through being out with other people, and being nice and normal... and when I was home I wanted to curl up in a ball and cry if that's what I felt like. Now he just thinks that's normal. =)

oh, and as to the open or closed bathroom doors....... we have separate bathrooms. His is in the hallway, and so he normally closes for everything. Mine is in a corner of the bedroom, with my closet opposite it, so he doesn't normally go over there, and I don't always close the door. He's seen me at my worst... with horrible vomitting and diarrhea, so if he could withstand that, he can handle just about anything. =)

I have three brothers and I was the youngest and only girl. My husband got used to see it but didn't want to get it for me at the store, which I don't blame him.

No, no embarassment here on the feminine products. It's just a natural thing, he knew I'd have them in the house.

Same here. Although now that we have kiddos and they're getting out of their baby stages, we pretty much always close the door.

We are very open for everything but for some reason using the bathroom with the door open really bugs hubby. I dont care but he cant stand to see me use the bathroom. I barge in on him all the time and he doesnt like it. But other than that we are very open. I dont care if I pass gas or burp in front of him or anything. Usually when I do some that "un-feminine" he responds with (sarcastically of course) "ooo...sexy" I was actually shocked at how easily I was so comfortable with him.

Oh and on topic...no embarrassment on the feminine products. Hubby doesnt like to buy them for me, but he doenst like to go shopping for anything without me...be it milk or tampons. He knows all about cramps, periods etc. but appreciates it if I dont tell him TOO much. We usually use the term "off limits" because well intimacy during that time of month is weird for him (and me) so thats generally all that needs to be said. Or we also use the term "icky." It sounds silly and immature but thats just how we are sometimes. I dont care for him to see things and such but I respect him not wanting to so I am careful. But as far as the boxes go....no biggie at all.

Erin- you aren't the only ones with code words. I either tell DH that things are "messy" or say "day 1" (from our charting days).

We're generally bathroom door open people- ours don't close tightly and the cats like to walk in anyways. For #2, Dh will usually push the door closed, and he'll walk out of the bathroom when I'm dealing with TOM stuff. I haven't bought any TOM things in years (I use a Diva cup and cloth pads), so I can't say if he'd mind buying things- I think he'd be more worried about getting exactly what I needed from the myriad of choices.

Code words? I don't know that I ever use the correct terms with my Sweetie. He gets a twinkle in his eye and I'll tell him to hold that thought and come back to me in a week...

We used to call it 'no baby' time because we knew I wasn't pregnant if TOM came

I couldn't bear to call it that. We decided not to think of it that way so that I wasn't so sad every month.

He has his own rather coarse nickname for 'that week' that always makes me laugh but I don't think I can share it here.

well, not being pregnant wasn't sad for us at the time so it wasn't a problem for us. I could see not using it if you want to be pregnant though

I have my own bathroom. LOL! But he comes in all the time. I have to say, hello, I am trying to relax and take care of business. LOL! Sometimes I don't care. I guess it is a mood thing.

When I was growing up, we locked doors, but when my nephew was little, and getting potty trained, he had to go when he had to go. So the doors were never locked. With only one bathroom then, that is the price you pay. So I was used to him running in and out while I was taking a shower. So I don't lock doors unless I don't want people to walk in. :)

If you buy feminine products at CostCo, that prevents the hubby having to make an emergency run... I am almost never out of tampons!!

He isn't bothered and buys products when I need him too.

This leads to a funny story: About a month ago, he went to the drugstore to purchase lighter fluid and a pregnancy test but couldn't find either one. So, he asks for help and tells the clerk that he needs lighter fluid for the the grill and that he needs the pregnancy test because he is late. He has no shame and delights in embarassing other people.

yeah, David has absolutely no qualms about buying the products for me... in fact, he's less embarrassed about things than I am. He just figures everybody does it, so what's the big deal. His big worry is getting the right things. He hates it when he has truly tried to get the right thing, but somehow it isn't right.

I think I was mildly embarrassed about that before we got married, but if you date for any length of time the subject does come up and he may even be with you when you need to pick them up.

Like many things about marriage and intimacy you get used to it. Pads are nothing in comparison to giving birth in front of someone.

LOL that sounds like something my sweetie might do ... he is always funny like that

When I was young teen...the thought of buying my own pads was embarassing to me...but I grew out of that along time ago lol

When you got married, was it hard/weird/embarrassing for you to have your husband see your boxes of tampons or pads? Or to tell him you had cramps?

I never had brothers, and I'm pretty private about that part of my life, so I was just wondering..

It wasn't at all. I felt so close to my husband when we married, that it was natural for him to see that part of my life.

I'm not nearly as embarrassed about buying feminine products these days as I was when I was a teen... but I won't purposely walk around carrying it so that everyone can see, or anything like that. David has absolutely no thought to "I don't want the whole world to know" so he doesn't care. I will normally try to put it in the cart near the bottom, mixed with other things, so they are not so noticeable. For the cashiers? Well, I figure that they better get used to seeing them go through.

David did get comments once (actually more than once now that I think of it) about buying pregnancy tests. Never about him per se... just stuff like "I hope this turns out the way you want it to" or "best of luck with that" or whatever. He just usually says very little when the cashiers make such comments.

No it was not embarrassing for me to have my dh see them things. He would even go to the store and buy them for me if I asked him to. We have 2 daughters so I guess he has no choice in the matter either.

I do pass gas in front of him too. But that took me awhile to do that. I guess after him seeing me give birth to our daughter there isn't much that I should be embarrassed about. lol

Yeah. LOL!

There were seven people in the room besides my husband when I gave birth to my oldest. I thought I would not be modest ever again. Wrong. I was just as modest with every birth.

Back to topic.

Do you mention things to your husband/boyfriend/fiancee about it? Like I usually feel horrid, so I can't just tell him "I feel bad" because then he'll ask whats wrong. I tried tell him I just felt icky, but I don't think he really understands that.
