Not too many people I know have an issue with human milk itself; the issue is that they don't want to drink or eat something that came out of another human...whether it's milk or anything else.

I just have to giggle at this. I would drink breastmilk before I would drink cow's milk, but breastmilk doesn't give me tummy problems. And yes, I have ingested it in my coffee before when we were out of cream.

Absolutely. I totally agree. However, on the note about Gentiles and Muslims doing things for Jews on the Sabbath, the fourth commandment specifically forbids not only Jews from working on the Sabbath but also their servants and "the stranger within their gates."

I've drank my own milk before too Ryanne. Not like a whole cupful or anything, but yeah.

I wouldn't put it in my coffee necessarily, but I have indeed tasted my own milk. I was curious! (not a whole cupful or anything, either, just a taste, LOL).

I saw a news story once that showed people with cancer getting it delivered to their door through a company and drinking it daily as part of their cancer therapy.

A friend of my mom has stage 4 stomach cancer, and breastmilk is one of the natural things that my mom suggested she try... At this point nothing can hurt, and the milk lukocytes would be very good for someone on Chemo.

I think human milk does have a lot of benefits even for adults, that is why my sister and I call it "momma's magic milk". But, I don't know that I would be able to consume someone else's breastmilk. I have tasted my own (not a cup, just a taste) and it actually does not taste bad. It is definitely just the thought of it coming from someone's body other than my own.

Here's a new topic....

Prayer - does it matter how many people are praying for you?

This seems to go around in circles to me. Will God be more likely to answer prayer if more people are praying? I don't think so - I think God can answer even if only 1 person prays. But on the flip side - does that mean that all the other prayers were useless? Obviously no there too.

I don't think so. For me it comes down ot the verse 'where two or more of you are gathered in My Name...' I think God honours faith more than numbers.

I don't think there's necessarily strength in numbers where prayer is concerned...he's not going to disregard a person's needs because s/he can't get more than one other person praying for him/her or because s/he is the only praying about the situation. That would be so beneath Him. He's too loving. If He's so loving as to number the hairs on our head, He's not going to number the people praying with/for us.

However, while it's not necessary to have great numbers, or more than one person praying, it certainly does have an effect on Him I'd say. Anytime someone brings someone to Him in prayer He's going to listen. Think of all those people praying as a bunch of widows knocking on His door in the middle of the night.

I'm think this post was about as clear as mud. Sorry.

I was watching a show tonight about the Fistula Hospital in Ehtiopia. I have seen bits before on Oprah, but this was a whole show following a few women's stories. It was so upsetting, yet at the end joyous too. It made me really count my blessings. I am going to be asking hubby if we can donate there, we have been looking to find things to donate too and this just really touched me.

I wouldn't take my kids to a mosque (except if sightseeing) or pray with my Muslim friends, but I wouldn't mind breaking fast with them.

In university, I would break fasts with my friends. I would also ask them during the day if they would mind if I ate in front of them. For me, while I don't believe what they are doing is right, I'm still going to be respectful of them in hopes that they would do the same toward me. I think it's also important for me to show an understanding of what they believe, in efforts to get them to understand what I believe. And in the last two years I have found a lot more courtesy toward my faith by Muslims than I ever expected to get.

I don't think so. Say the whole church is praying for you. I belong to a very small church, you belong to a mega church. Will your prayers be answered first because you attend a larger church? We're all serving God.

I like what Beth said about God listening every time someone brings something to Him in prayer. He hears every prayer and He answers appropriately.

And on the subject of breastmilk and PETA....hmmm, all I can think is, what sort of job ad would that be?

I think that sometimes we depend on prayer more than the Answerer of prayer. It becomes a good luck charm. We attribute the good things that result from the prayer to prayer instead of to God who answered the prayer.

As for numbers praying, there are many places in the Bible where more than one person is praying for the same thing. Think of the prayer meeting at Rhoda's house when Peter was miraculously released from prison.

Jesus also gave the example of the woman who kept pestering the judge until he granted what she was asking. Jesus says that we are to do the same with God. It seems to me that many people praying is a form of doing that.

God isn't limited by numbers--large or few.

I agree with you all.

Prayer seems a hard one to get my mind around.

I mean - if numbers don't matter, why do we ask everyone to pray? If 1 person praying does just as good, why bother? But that doesn't make sense either.

ie-prayer....
I am reminded of the story in the Bible where an angel was sent with the answer to a problem but was under attack while trying to get there and was held up. I personally don't think more people praying means anything...but more people affectively coming together in prayer for the purpose of spiritual warfare over the situation I think does have great benefits...maybe not to the physical side of things, but definitely to the spiritual side of things.

You're absolutely right, and it drives me crazy.

AMEN!

On a related note, does anyone else have people that they'd just rather NOT have them praying for you and your situations? I don't mean like you don't want some Wicca witch praying to her goddess for you I mean Christians that you'd just rather not have them pray for you? After many years of observing the way some people I used to work with prayed for things, I had to come to the point where I just stopped asking them to pray for me and my situations. Instead of praying that God would do his will in the situation, no matter what that was, they would decide that ABC solution is the BEST way and pray that God would DO ABC, sooner rather than later. And if the answer to their arrogance was no, they'd go around screaming at the devil for messing things up. I just can't get behind that.

I also don't like it when people use prayer requests as a gossip opportunity.

It's also funny at church if the pastor hasn't made an announcement about a prayer need and so starts describing the person/situation to God in the prayer. Like He needs that much info? LOL

I have a question regarding tongues and the Holy Spirit....

I grew up in a church that taught nothing about tongues or having the Spirit. My church now believes that tongues, etc can occur but have a specific purpose. So my understanding of all this is basically just the passages. I've never seen anything in person where people are "catching the Spirit" for lack of a much better term. I've seen video footage of people jumping up and down, falling over, speaking in tongues, etc.

Anyways, my question is - do you think it's possible to fight the Holy Spirit coming over you? If you feel something happening that you aren't controlling, can you stop it from happening?

Does that make sense?

Yeah, that makes sense. I'm no expert about the Holy Spirit, but I know that we can resist God. He doesn't push his way in where he is not welcome. I think far too many people and churches do exactly what you're talking about--being in control is so important, they miss out on the blessings God wants to bring through his Spirit.

My oldest daughter went to talk to our pastor just yesterday about the Holy Spirit. What our pastor said was that you have to give permission for the Holy Spirit to talk through you. It can be done at any time. That you just have to be welling. He also said that it was our prayer language.

Before I answer, could I just ask what they believe is the specific purpose? And do they believe that someone with the gift of tongues can speak in tongues anytime, and that they are in control of it, or something else?
