ORIGINAL: tracydolls No one can see into any's heart. The Light of Christ is easy to see in a person. I don't see any exhibited by conservatives that neglect the poor. The Republican Party platform does not match up. Neither does the Dems. OK this bugs me. First of all government is not supposed to (and should not IMO) "take care" of people. People should take care of people. By voluntary contributions in either monetary forms or giving their time in acts of labor. Conservative politicians, and conservatives in general, give overwhelmingly more money to charities. There is a book by Arthur C. Brooks on this, its called "Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism." Just because conservatives don't advocate government as the end all, be all source for humanity does NOT mean they aren't compassionate. I'd much rather vote for someone who gave their own money voluntarily to chariety than someone who wants to force people to donate and gives very little by (percentage of income) comparison to chariety voluntarily. I read an article a while back that pointed to John McCain as being very charitable of his own personal money... and that's where its at as far as i'm concerned. Walk the walk and stop pretending that talking about helping the poor (via government) is so grand. /rant off

It's all relative. Of course you will find "poorer" populations in countries with small to no economies. That still does not mean we should have poor in our countries. Again, I think you're missing the point here. There will ALWAYS be poor because there will ALWAYS be people who have less than their neighbors. I am poorer than Bill Gates. So is basically everyone else in this country. This country allows the opportunity for basically everyone to have their basic needs met. And yet, they're still poor. Why? Because the comparison is made to someone who has basic needs met, plus, say, a car. And so on up the scale. quote:
I don't know about you, but an empty stomach in Detroit feels the same as an empty stomach halfway across the world. Hunger is hunger. Not having your own shelter is still being without shelter. There is no reason for want or need in this country. THere can be jobs for everyone. There is food if they choose to get it. There is shelter if they choose to get it. There's a job if they want to work. Unfortunately, some people are unwilling to get the help that's available. quote:
But it's been tradition to get yours and leaves others behind. We choose who to share our wealth with. Mmm. So I should go out and find someone on the street and kidnap them and force them to live in my house? I'm pretty sure that's illegal. We have a responsibility to take care of our own families and work for a living. We also have a responsibility to make sure that the basic needs of the poor are met. The basic needs are pretty much covered in this country. From there on, it's time to step up. quote:
Why do movie stars make 20 million dollars per film even if the film is lousy? Why do corporate executives who learned the art of wheeling and dealing get to have multi-million dollar severance packages after running a company into the ground? Why are athletes who are good with a leather ball paid 100 million dollars to play in a sport they enjoy while half of their fans can't even afford to go to the games. $400 for a 50-cent hotdog? $60/ticket? To sit out in the cold and see ants running around on the field? College sports draw bigger crowds and the players play for free! We live in an era of gross misplacement of wealth. Welcome to a free market economy. Supply and demand. I think it's stupid that athletes get paid that much, but that's what the market rate is *shrug*. If you don't like it, convince people to stop going to ballgames. Being a fan is a *choice*. I choose not to be a fan, so I don't have to pay the money. If enough people make the same choice as I have, then the payments to the athletes, and the expense of going to the game, will drop. If enough stockholders fuss about the compensation packages, they will go down. If enough people stop idolizing certain spoiled brats, erm, I mean actors, then the costs will go down on movies. It's pretty simple really.

I read an article a while back that pointed to John McCain as being very charitable of his own personal money... and that's where its at as far as i'm concerned. Walk the walk and stop pretending that talking about helping the poor (via government) is so grand. Looking at their tax returns since the year 2000 ... Obama ... In two of the years, the Obamas gave far less than 1% of their income to charity; in three of the years, they gave around 1% of their income to charity. Only in the last two years have they given substantially more as their income skyrocketed -- 4.7% in 2005 and 6.1% in 2006. (Of course, it is possible that the Obamas may have made gifts to other worthy causes that were not deductible for federal income tax purposes.) Contrast that with McCain (who has also adapted a very sick young girl who would have died w/out medical attention) ... "In 2007, the Arizona senator reported $405,409 in total income and contributed $105,467, or 26 percent of his total income, to charity. In 2006, Mr. McCain said he had $358,414 in total income and donated $64,695, or 18 percent of his total income, to charity." (note this amount was just his giving ... they filed separately and Cindy's giving was much higher.) "Mr. McCain’s campaign said he donates his royalties from his books to charities and that “this sum has totaled over $1,800,000 since 1998 when he signed his first book deal.” The campaign said his book income added up to $256,898 for 2006 and 2007." (this amount is in addition to the amount reported on the tax returns.) According to Senator Obama's tax returns, he pocketed most of his book earnings ... but to be fair, Mrs. McCain inherited quite a bit so he probably didn't miss the close to 2 million he gave away since 1998. The McCains also run their own charity that has given to Operation Smile, the Halo Trust, Brophy College Preparatory school, in Phoenix, and Christ Lutheran School.

We need to quit looking to the corpoate church and to government to solve poverty for us. God places people in our paths everyday. We don't have to make each and every one our mission. He infers that Obama is an elitist while he owns seven homes to Obama's one and 12 cars to Obama's one. A black man can't be educated without running the risk of being called 'uppity'. Save the drama. Greetings Let’s pretend that we are Christians in support of Obama’s worldview of homosexuality, so we vote for him ….because they should have every right as everyone else. Now what the Bible in part says about this is in… Le 20:13 - Show Context If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them . According to Lev 20 above.. It says their blood shall be upon “them which simply means it will not affect me one bit! ….so I could hold a view that I could care less is they get their rights, but Biblically I am commanded to Love them... Heb 12:6 - Show Context …..For whom the Lord “loves”.. He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives." The fact is I really do Love them... and I am no stranger to that lifestyle because my very own nephew is Gay and is one of the best persons I have ever met, so I am not naive by what I have witnessed about the life style though…( and its not a very pretty picture now.. as it is).... But a "vote" for an agenda that is against Gods will on this issue according to Lev 20....and would be causing him even more harm than good. So if we as Christians vote in line with that agenda or the support of it thereof, then that seems to be enough for God to know we ”do not” love them simply by knowing ahead of time what is written in Lev 20:13 ...”and"..... to boot… We …will have the blood of not only 1 soul…. but the blood of 2 souls on our hands. =both of them as written also in Lev 20:13 Now let’s weight it out and see if a punishment could be inflicted, and why And it will be based on this principal here… in Luke 12:47-48 ...concerning “His” people. Lu 12:47 And that servant who knew his master's will, and did not prepare himself… “or”... do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. (If Obama is having a 1 car issue.. then perhaps he should make an adjustment!! ) BUT... Well we already know our Christian Brother Obama’s view is, so we can’t say we were fooled by it and that view is also opposed to the masters (Gods) will, ….So, unless God is a liar, then both Obama and us Christians that voted for an agenda that is against the masters will….WE…shall be beaten with many stripes, ((Which basically means when the “PoPo” hits the fan; and the Country comes under the judgments; the ones who simply voted for it… may just be sharing in a very hard time....to say the least! ))) (and perhaps Obama should consider getting a bicycle…a head of time… while they are on sale at the moment) Now on the flip-side….Lu 12:48 - Show Context But he who did not know , yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few.. That will be a very lame excuse…because this election is very clear on the issues in Christian circles, there will be very few who can stand before the Lord and say they did not know. SO all in all ….according to the “truth” concerning the law of God….it might not go very well for a Christian to support the homosexual agenda under the guise of Love, which is actually a condemnation (or a hate) on them according to the scriptures ....and with that… Can you see why I said what I said in the last post …below in.. "BOLD quote:
IMHO… the problems with his expressions are... if per say... that he is “not stable”, He is as much a threat to the lobby he is trying to get; as he is to the constitutions he is attempting to squash. They just don't realize it yet. Now in no way am I suggesting who to vote for, I’ve done my job. But what do you think... is there a direct connection in Christian circles with Mt 24:12 in that “the Love of many will grow cold”; and a Christian vote for the homosexual agenda?? And that my friend…. is the oldest Arabic QUOTE “Islamic” trick in the book, which was used over and over and over and over…again …against Israel to bring on the judgment of God… as seen in the OT, It’s nothing new! Greetings From: http://onenewsnow.com/ A liberal political action committee called the "Matthew 25 Network" is asking Christian radio stations in the key battleground state of Ohio to air an ad that suggests Barack Obama would bring an end to the economic woes plaguing the state and the country if elected president. That’s almost in line with the curse imposed on the US economy that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said. Its funny that Obama has all the answers Now we know that the church is not to publically endorse any candidates, so here is a setup the “liberal” political action committee no doubt concerning the fairness doctrine ..... Knowing full well the churches position on abortion and homosexuality I mean, since Barrack’s “liberal” political action committee supports the fairness doctrine …I would have on objections at least allow “all the issues”.. to be aired on a Christian station…not just 1….fairness wise!…of course! Its funny how the rich are villified by the left...but they always want the one thing that made them that way... money.

SonInMe1: You're half right. The rich are villified by the right also, or at least by some of those on the right who aren't rich themselves. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I'm always amazed at people who claim to be conservative, Republican, capitalist, free market, whatever, until they actually meet someone who is not just well off, but actually stinking rich.

Right... but any time someone mentions Barack Obama's years of service to the community, it is somehow laughed off? Why is that? If we're going to fault him because his children go to private school, why not hold Mr. McCain to the same standard, especially since he owns seven homes and 12 cars. What is a preborn grandchild? And please point me to the source that directly quotes him "musing openly about killing his own preborn grandchild." As an aside, why is it that there is so much emphasis on saving unborn children but general disdain for saving those born into poor communities? Welcome to CW. LOL. Here we only want to save the unborn..we say....but those babies starving in AFrica are not worth saving. We like to watch the slowwww death of them... You havent heard the verse from Thess yet? They can work, those lazy people!! For the poor we got be contented with what you do have. Even if I stole mines from you or your forebears. Here we still think people get alot of welfare, even though Clinton cut it in 1998. Here on CW, we say the gov't should not help people with $147.00 a month checks, but should help with 700,000,000.00 to bail out rich people. Here we IGNORE the 1000's of verses about GIVE to the poor. and we love the riches dirty drawls... Welcome.

As usual, Tracy is painting everyone with a broad brush, and with her usual incomprehensible verbiage (what is a "dirty drawl"?). Unless and until she interviews every conservative Christian and non-Christian in this country, and obtains certified copies of their giving records, her accusations will continue to ring as one drowning in class envy.

I don't remember anyone here supporting corporate welfare. I think the banks should be held to the same standard we are. Live within your means or starve. These banks made stupid loans (Although they were forced to do it by the government so the gov may have some culpability in it). If they get stuck with properties that they can't sell for what they loaned on them it's their problem not mine. BTW, It wouldn't be bailing out "rich" people. It bails out the shareholders and depositors at these banks, most of who are anything but rich. quote:

ORIGINAL: John_O BTW, It wouldn't be bailing out "rich" people. It bails out the shareholders and depositors at these banks, most of who are anything but rich. But then again, I kinda like the China is handling the milk crisis over there, they made the ones who tainted the milk reimburse medical expenses of those who were injured and then jailed the ones responsible. “If”… they get out of Jail... ….I bet they won’t do that again? The rich are villified by the right also, They are?? Lets look at this thing with this in mind....how much will it cost to not bail out these banks? Life tends not to be a conspiricy. Not all rich people are in cahoots to keep people poor. In fact few if any are. Some may be selfish..gee...poor people are selfish too. Many are selfless. quote:
Here we only want to save the unborn..we say....but those babies starving in AFrica are not worth saving. There are many other babies starving in the world besides African babies. Most starvation in the world is caused by tyrannical governments, not the lack of charitable funds.
