Do you build the houses yourself? And will you still build the bigger house even if you remain single?

Hope to, Plan to. One of those wait and see kinda things.

And beautiful tree... you need a hammock out there.

and 8 cases of mosquito repellent. They'd still haul me off.

That or a large swing with a screened in porch would be fantastic.

My Dream home would include a fully equipped Auto and wood working shop. Not to forget a computer repair desk. I like to tinker.

Here in Florida, screened porches are a MUST if you're going to be outside... otherwise the mosquitoes will carry you away. Of course, down here, we can time it... after the sun goes down, so do the mosquitoes, and we can enjoy the outdoors again.

I looked long and hard and found a place that looks like the kind of setting I'm talking about. You can find the listing HERE.

I'd like to get a computer repair desk as well at some point.

I like what Terri said though.

Assuming money is no object.

First is location. Out in the country on 100 or more acres, beside or near a private lake (5 acre or more) stocked with good fish.

Need to find the ugliest spot on the property and build the house there. Why you ask? Because most people build on the prettiest spot and destroy the beauty there. If I build on the ugliest spot then I'll improve the land and still have the prettiest spot

I like big houses. Mines not too bad but it's way too small.

I've got one designed that is probably too large but someday I'll have children and grandchildren so I'll need the room. I think I can trim it down a bit and still retain the functionality and traffic flow. It currently has 8 bedrooms and 8 1/2 baths. That would get cut to 5 bedrooms I think, 5 1/2 baths.

It has a two story library with shelves on a balcony around the room with a pool table and reading chairs on the first floor. Perhaps even a piano.

Two story entry with a curved staircase going up (starts on right and curves to left. Hallway passes under stairway on the left. ) Big living room, family room, big eat in kitchen, second stairway off the kitchen going up and down. Laundry room on second floor. Guest suite on third floor with rest of third floor being attic.

As I said Big house.

There's also one I saw that I liked that's more realistic:
Yardley
Select options:4' owners bath extension, hearth room with fireplace/media
Second floor options: Bedroom 4 with full bath, bonus room

I totally agree....why do they do that?

Now this is a cool idea. I am going to put this in my house plans file.

I can't wait to share my ideas..it will be soooooo fun...one thing that I think would be SO cool, although impossible for most people..is to have an entry way that's actually big enough to be a ballroom.......remember Sound of Music...that house was so cool! I loved the split staircase.

Why cut it down to 5? The 8 sounds about perfect, especially with what you are desiring for your family. And on 100 acres - that's awesome! And on a lake....even better! Lot's a GTs at John's house this way! (only if she allows)

I dunno - 8 sure sounds like a LOT of cleaning ;) Won't the kids be closer if they have to share rooms? he he he :)

I can't picture myself with lots of land unless I have lots of critters and someone to help me take care of them. Maybe it is the city side of me, but having more land than I can look out the window and see makes me nervous, ha ha ha :)

The location is my biggest factor... the design is important, but not as much to me. I would like a home near the ocean but private. I want to be able to hear the waves crash and enjoy the view, but with no people anywhere, except me an my family. I might be happy with just a lake though.. probably a lot less money.

It's kind of big (12,000 sq ft). But if God gives me it I will definitely have the GT's (If she agrees).

Maybe I'll drop the drawings onto a PDF and post them.

That's excellent! I know my mom had a hard time finding a good "in." I used to be blessed with the resources to do that - but I always ended up cleaning after them. Guess I'm too picky :)

My dream house is the one where my husband is standing in it.

Ditto!

LOL!! I agree with you guys!! The only things my house has to have is a large kitchen, (I LOVE to cook!) not be right in the middle of town, (Grew up in the country and kind of like it a lot!) a couple of extra bedrooms, (I really want kids!) and a swing outside in the big tree that is going to be standing in our front yard! Other than that, as long as it is a house that is full of love and God's blessing, then I could really careless what my house looks like!

Hmmm...if money weren't an object...

A large three story house with sitting room, ballroom, dining room, and HUGE kitchen on the first floor. A library will be on all three floors towards the back of the house. There will also be lots of fireplaces.

The second floor will have entertainment facilities, and guest quarters.

The third floor will only consist of living quarters for the immediate family.

In the backyard a nice pool with a seperate pool house, tennis courts, basketball courts, and a large spacious yard to play in.

I want my house to be a place where young people can come in and hang out, relax, hear and see the Word, and just....live.

Mind you...this is a perfect world.

Should have the big house up as a PDF tomorrow. I just finished dimensioning and labeling it.

Of course it's just a rough sketch but I still like it.

What's PDF? Oh, and by the way, I'm glad you have someone come clean..I think that's a good idea with everything else you have going on.

What's PDF?

PDF is a type of document format called Portable Document Format. It is a format that anyone can view, provided they have a PDF Reader installed on their computer. Just about everyone has a PDF Reader these days because it usually comes by default on all PCs (not sure about macs).

You've probably seen PDF documents many times, but didn't realize what it was. Many college catalogs, forms, drawings, and book excerpts are converted to PDF format so that people can easily see them on the web without needing additional special software. There are also other added benefits to PDF format as well (such as security, ability to make comments, or the ability to send form information directly to a database). But my guess is that John_O will not be using any of those features when he posts his house plans.

Here is an example of one: PDF Example.

Probably more than you wanted to know about PDF - but ... well ... here it is anyway.

Can't wait to see it!

Years ago, I read about a woman who had her dream home and dream life. So she started cutting pictures out of magazines and put them together in a journal and prayed over them. You know what? She found her ideal husband AND had her dream home. I guess that's part of the reason I started this thread... because I wanted to talk about our dream homes... do you believe the Lord can provide both our spouses AND our dreams? (I do)

Big house PDF

8 bedrooms, 6 1/2 baths.

The basement needs to be reworked to get out from under the garage. The garage needs to be reworked (20' deep is too shallow). The basement stairs are not shown (they are under the stairs in the MISC room). It will also be a walkout basement but the site will determine where the door is.

Roof lines are very sketchy.

The secret room on the third floor has a false wall blocking the doors into Guest suite 1. The hidden spiral would be the main entry into it unless I have to bring big stuff (like furniture) into it.

On first floor that's a pool table in the pool room. dining table in dining room and island in kitchen.

Elevator runs from basement to attic.

Library has bookshelve lined balcony overlooking pool room.

Master bath has toilet and bidet. Rectangular area in lounge are bookshelves.

Full bath on first floor (end of hallway) will probably be expanded into misc room

So there it is. Just a sketch but I like the design so far. A big house designed for entertaining.
